One of the things not mentioned was that Ford said they had weight goal for the GTD. I'm guessing that they want to get the car under 3,000 pounds. If so, that will be a better power to weight ratio than the GT3RS, and even the GT2 RS!

Guessing it won’t go that far down. It’s still a very large car with a very large engine. My guess is about 3400 lbs, which still gives it better power to weight than any Porsche outside of the 918. Even if it’s more, the Predator engine is underrated to begin with, so the actual power to weight will likely still be better even it weighs 3700..

The strength to weight ratio of carbon is greater than magnesium. Therefore, a carbon wheel will not fail or crack for a given impact that will bend a magnesium or aluminum wheel.

@OneLapBilly Magnesium doesn't bend, as much as Carbon Resin would break down and loosen up with consistent braking... Carbon Brakes help with this, though to achieve going below the 7 minutes in the Nurburgring Nordschleifa, they have to brake hard and attack those curbs for 13 Miles

@OneLapBilly Consider this a Drive Shaft made of Carbon Fiber is better with torque on a vehicle with a Stock Ride height. If you lower the vehicle and not used a shorter length Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft. The Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft will explode in to a Million pieces. Trust me I have seen it.. Lowering the vehicle changes the angle and when launching the rear drops even lower. This would even make angle shorter. Look at American Muscle Mustang, and Stephanie's Mustang with the Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft...and you tell me it won't shatter into a million pieces. There great at twisted torque though compression inward and twisted torque not an ideal remedy. 🙋👍🏎🏁🚩 I once lowered a 1995 Mustang and the U-Joints exploded, and the Tech said you shouldn't have lowered it, and the weight of with a Pair of 12" Speakers didn't help either. Therefore, I went back to stock.

I know ford is going to destroy their sub 7:00 min goal. The viper acr (a beautiful masterpice) goes 7:01 and some change. When you take into consideration the amount of technology in the mustang gtd that the viper didnt have and the extra 200 + hp, modern aero, suspension, etc... (I have been binge watching every GTD video I could find for the?past few days) the technoolgy is insaine and its being built by ford with everything they have learned from the GT350, Ford GT, GT500, and their gt3 racecar not to mention the help from MULTINATIC. I am confident the ford GTD will exceed expectations and go well under 7 min

Man, given how expensive the Mustang is getting it's a shame they didn't do a brand new chassis and at least dump the rear seats and convert the chassis to the SLA front and transaxle layout used in the GTD (no need for the pushrod suspension for a street car). At this point Ford should just cover the market GM abandoned when they went to the C8.

Did you watch the video? The car has an SLA front suspension and a Tremec transaxle. It's remained to be seen but I would guess the rear seats are no longer there in the GTD.

As a Brit, I’ve always loved yank cars but thought of them as a little archaic regarding technology although quick in a straight line never regarded them as track weapons. The last decade of US cars have totally blown my mind though, it absolutely shows that our cousins from the wrong side of the Atlantic can rule on the track as well as the drag strip.
