Just did my shocks and struts with this video. Worked well, thank you! Made the mistake of not supporting the rear spring, but luckily it was stopped by the axle and was easy to re seat.

Just bought a 2001 Mustang for my son and the suspension is SHOT!!!!! Gonna have to replace the shock/struts all the way around. You made this look easy. Hopefully I will still feel like that once I dive into this project. Thanks for the video! :-)

+ambrooks5 Some of the bolts can fight you a little but its not a bad install at all. Spray everything with some PB blaster the day before and let it sit to make it easier.

Great advice. I will definitely do that. Thanks!

I have an 01 v6 that was my first car. rebuilt it with my dad. it rides like garbage, bumps kill me. would this fix my problem or would I need new springs as well? I have a lot to learn when it comes to suspension. I'm not 100% sure if my car just has bad suspension or if it's just how older cars ride
@angelgjr19995 жыл бұрын
Idk man I think my Mustang needs new struts because mine handles like a boat and brakes like crap. I plan on doing this and getting tower brace to improve handling.

What springs are you running? control arms?
@sergiodoordie3194 жыл бұрын
thank you for replying im not sure but i think i got sr lowering springs had em for years i got a new set of bbk rear upper and lower control arms .and for the front end i installed new lower control arms for both sides i also bought a set of new spring insulators . i replaced every bushing on the suspension i could find but i didnt replace the springs cuz they still look in good condition but im not an expert tho . do you think the springs could be the reason i still feel every bump on the road ?
@ikaros214 жыл бұрын
You will feel the potholes no matter what. is just the nature of a live rear axle!
@stevevanslyke5272 Жыл бұрын
I noticed on the rear shocks when installed you didn't use the bump stops do we not need them with these shocks? Those are kinda important 🤔
@OhItsThat8 жыл бұрын
When installing these shocks and struts what are all the rubber pieces that could possibly need to be replaced? Do you guys have a kit with all parts?
@42BravoFoxtrot7 жыл бұрын
They supply the hardware for the rear shocks. But if you need strut bushings in the front, you'll have to order them separate. I just did a 94 cobra and the front bushings were still good.
@TheNitroPsycho3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I changed out my rear shocks last week cause it felt like the rear end was hitting hard and bottoming out, changed them out and I don't know if there is a "break in process" or what but the rear still hits hard, not as hard but feels like it's still bottoming out. Any suggestions?
@biffbastion3013 жыл бұрын
@TheNitroPyscho Do you have lowering springs on your car? You may be hitting the differential snubber. That would cause the bottoming out in the rear.

What brand should i get Kyb or Koni whats better fo a 97 mustang gt?
@cjponyparts4 жыл бұрын
KYB would be equivalent to stock with a little better performance, the Koni would be a true performance upgrade. If you are on stock springs and sway bars the KYB would be fine, if you are improving the suspension I would recommend Koni.

Amazing video! I love my Mustang, I just have no experience whatsoever working on cars. It's something I shoot my self in the foot over, and I wish I could just gather some confidence to get into auto repair and maintenance. What steps do you recommend to get my feet wet and eventually become proficient enough to do expert level type work in the future. PS: Amazing video!
@synlynzero7 жыл бұрын
MatafiedGaming learning how to change your own oil is usually the first thing to do, then spark plugs, then stuff like alternator changes, cleaning of intake parts, then brakes. nowadays you can find everything online so whenever you are unsure of something, look it up days before in writing and video if possible and you'll be fine.

I have a couple questions, I drive a 97, is the installation process the same or are there a few differences between them, second question, I have some after market cc plates, when installing the front ones, it won't mess with the alignments will it? I may just be paranoid but I have had some issues with this in the past, better safe than sorry.
@Zerogivengarage9 жыл бұрын
The installation process is the same, you will need an alignment when installing CC plates.
@DMANN0079 жыл бұрын
Do you need an alignment after doing this?
@Zerogivengarage9 жыл бұрын
DMANN1972 Since you are not changing ride height or making any caster/camber adjustments you should not. That said if you had the car aligned with worn out shocks and struts its not a bad idea to get it on a rack and get it checked.

Do i need to find torque specs for anything or is it just as tight as i can get it
@angelgjr19995 жыл бұрын
Chef Boyardee Idk man did you figure it out?
@manunava17763 жыл бұрын
Always best to torque to spec, so find a shop manual. Also, most suspension bolts are usually one-and-done, meaning the engineers spec use of new hardware (for safety reasons) when changing out parts; a good manual will advise you of such.
@kevinrodriguez-bw1hc9 жыл бұрын
do you need use a impact gun? or could i use a torque wrench?
@BboyIllusi0n9 жыл бұрын
Never use a torque wrench to loosen bolts. It strains the gears inside and throws off the calibration. Use a breaker bar(aka cheater bar), a 1/2" long handle ratchet or a hollow long pipe for leverage on the ratchet. Use PB blast or wd40 to loosen the bolts. Wait 10 min or an entire day before u do this amd itll be super easy. I havent done it to my car yet but i lowered my car and my stock shocks and struts just feel terrible.

You have to hold the shock some way while tightening the nut..Use a vise grip or use (I think 9mm) to hold the shock while you tighten the nut. Sounds a little confusing
