How to Use Views Relationships

Many thanks for this video, this was a life-saver for me. I was trying to figure out how to have on a page showing a recipe, a view-block showing all recipes with the same value in the field kitchen-style (as in Italian, French, Thai, etc.). I saw this type of thing being described in a Drupal 7 tutorial, where it looked quite simple, but could not replicate this in Drupal 8. It did not occur to me that I could let the view start from the main node that is presented on the page as you suggest in this video. But is this really the preferred way of doing things? I would expect it to be more natural to let the view start from nodes with content type (in my case) Recipe and then with a contextual filter select only those related to the main node shown. But I don't see how to specify that the default selection value must be equal to some field of the main node. That seems to me such an obvious thing to do, that I have the feeling I must be missing something.
