i honestly never heard a fully sounding chord from the module, of course poly is a hassle because any good polysynth usually combines each voice with a tuned LFO/VCO2 giving you more overall frequency body and a fuller sound.pre filter, pre-vca). unfortunately, while very versatile, to achieve this with modular (especially analog) takes a little more than just microtonal pulse-rythms sped up by a few 100x (which the braids seems to perform here.... ... hat tip to adam neelys video about harmonic polyrhythms )

Fantastic video as always, Ben. I preordered yesterday, but I have this feeling I might end up with more than one in my case. The built in LPG emulation is stellar. Thanks for the demo ! I have a rather mixed feeling about the Plaits, on the one hand as such it is a very good module, but when I compare it to Braids I am disappointed. Too many noise banks have replaced the incredible sounds of Braids. I solved the problem by having both modules, very complementary in fact. But Plaits will never replace Braids, whose production stoppage is a loss for the Eurorack world.... A tip: the Spanish company Codex Modulex still manufactures the Braids in 8HP version with original firmware for a very low price. If you can only buy one module, prefer this version of the Braids rather than the Plaits!

This is one of the most musical modules available at the moment I reckon - granted, I don't know every module released - but in terms of how many sweet spot, musical tones it can morph between and land on so easily, I don't think there's much else out there that offers a similar experience?
@DivKid6 жыл бұрын
There's a good few options for musical, mass sweet spot, great tones in eurorack definitely.
@TroyBlackford4 жыл бұрын
This definitely strikes me as a "new to Eurorack" comment. They don't call it "Eurocrack" for nothing. There's all too many wonderful, amazing, delightful, musical modules: but this is a very versatile, great module at a wonderful price. I'm trading in three modules I don't have room for for this one in a few hours, and I'm very excited! Thanks for your videos, as I'm hoping to figure this one out a bit more quickly than I spent figuring out the ones I've got. It's not going to happen the way I want, probably, but I'll get there eventually. If the OP meant "is this a great choice for a starter oscillator," absolutely. But there are fifty great modules for every module one knows about, at least. If not three hundred. So many fantastic choices: that's what made Eurorack hard for not-rich people. Martin Gore from Depeche has a wall of his home studio that is just wired up with what looks like over a thousand modules and he is always getting more/expressing guilt over what he correctly calls his "addiction." It's a challenge to stop wanting more.

Good morning, I do try to get modulation and/or audio onto the oscilloscope (Mordax DATA module) as much as possible. What would help is watching a lot of my other videos about modulation modules. It's not just about the modules themselves but the patching, synthesis and how they work. I know that doesn't help immediately, but if watching a few LFO videos really gives you grasp of some potential LFO uses then you hear some modulation in a video like this you'll recognise what's going on. I do often do patch breakdowns that zoom the camera out and look at the wider patch exclusively for my Patreon supporters that might help. All that said, I'll try to bear that in mind for a more direct affect for you.
@naught1016 жыл бұрын
I mean, I feel like I know reasonably well what you can do with LFOs and modulation in general, but with a video like this (and pretty much any gear video over 10:00), I'm generally jumping through it, trying to get an idea of what it can do, rather than getting a complete overview (I suspect this is something a lot of people do). So a lot of the time I'm going to miss the part where you explain what modulation sources you're using, and it's pretty hard to jump back and find where you describe what you're using, because it could have been 30s ago, or it could have been 10 minutes ago. Time stamps might help, but I guess that would also be quite a bit more work. Can't you do 2 audio and 2 CV channels with the Mordax simultaneously? I mean, the pitch/trig input are pretty obvious from the audio, so it's basically just the timbre/morph channels that are interesting here...
@DivKid6 жыл бұрын
I've been time stamping and making indexes with time links in the latest lot of videos so that should help. You can input anything on the DATA but they all share the same time setting. So a time set to show and LFO won't then show audio with any other than a thick messy waveform. Slowing the time down on the DATA to show the audio wave then wouldn't show you much of the CV signals. So unless I went for two DATAs I can't show both on that at once.
@naught1016 жыл бұрын
Yeah, right, fair enough. Well, what you do present is definitely appreciated, and I look forward to more, and maybe improvements as the tools improve :)

I use the maths to modulate the model parameter. I generate an lfo and adjust the corresponding maths channel attenuverter to control how far the leap to another model is (negative will scroll backwards and positive will scroll forwards). Any lfo coupled with an attenuverter should do this.

the decay is not cv-able? :(
@DivKid6 жыл бұрын
No, but if anything it's a bonus to be able to turn this into a voice on it's own. It's a module, so get it into a VCA/filter/folder etc and use modulation to get things moving nicely. You can put envelopes into the level input, so any CV-able envelope will do the trick. Just bear in mind it's a bonus feature for quickly getting percussion that's all.
@jayjayDrm6 жыл бұрын
DivKidVideo sure, but in terms of easy results from one module i don't need cv over mode, but more decay. i see you manually modulating this param all the time in the video. if they simulate an lpg and praise it as a feature, i guess it's more then a bonus. it's always nice to free my real lpg/cvEnv for other purposes.
@DivKid6 жыл бұрын
While I get your point I do disagree, this is an oscillator an improvement re built version of the macro oscillator concept that Mutable originated with Braids. You can use LPGs, VCAs, envelopes etc external to the module. If you lost features from the core tone/mode controls you wouldn't be able to replicate those with other modules. I aren't sure they advertise it as a main feature particularly, but I haven't kept up with how that's been presented by the company.

I absolutely loved your video of braids you did for future music. That module is the main motivation for me wanting to start a modular. Totally understand. I really like mono for a lot of things, but no reason not to explore stereo when given the chance. This isn't meant to be stereo in anyway but some of the modes definitely work great patched that way.
