Denmark
5.8 million people
17 million mink
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-euro...
Cull all mink, 207 farms effected, 1,000 farms overall
Mutated form of coronavirus
Transmissible to humans, 12 transfers so far
Virus may therefore already be in the local human population
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen
Mutated virus posed a risk to the effectiveness of future vaccine
Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, US
UK response
Grant Shapps, the transport secretary, announces travellers arriving after 4am on Friday must self-isolate for 14 days
www.theguardian.com/environme...
Prof Kåre Mølbak, vaccine expert and director of infectious diseases
State Serum Institute
The worst-case scenario is that we would start off a new pandemic in Denmark
There’s a risk that this mutated virus is so different from the others that we’d have to put new things in a vaccine
and therefore [the mutation] would slam us all in the whole world back to the start
Dutch virologist and zoonosis expert, Wim van der Poel
more research needed
It seems the mink-variant mutation is found in the spike protein of the Sars-Cov-2 virus
but we don’t really know
Weasels, badgers, otters, ferrets, martens and wolverines
Prof Ian Jones, virologist at the University of Reading
The idea that the virus mutates in a new species is not surprising …
as it must adapt to be able to use mink receptors to enter cells and so will modify the spike protein to enable this to happen efficiently
The danger is that the mutated virus could then spread back into man
and evade any vaccine response which would have been designed to the original, non-mutated version of the spike protein

As the mink aren't wild, but farmed, much of your comment doesn't make sense. Were the infection in cattle, would say the same thing, despite cattle being domesticated for around 10000 years? BTW, we've had similar outbreaks in mink farms in the US. No clue if it's a mutated strain, but it may suggest a more common mutation if it is. The virus can tell us more about itself and stable vs unstable parts of the genome, but only if we listen.

UPDATE FROM DK: There are more than 20 million mink going to be put down in this week, the 7 regions of Denmark that are affected will ALL be tested estimated at around 300.000 people in the coming week, NOT ALL DENMARK has mink farms they are located majority in the north ( 7 regions), Today Monday 9 Nov we are in a lockdown here in the 7 Regions and the Transport system is down, so there is no moving out to other Regions, if you live in one region and work in another, we don´t go to work, the idea is to stop people moving.

@Jr yeshua Are our immune systems completely ineffective against Covid? Like genuinely, I have heard talk of transient immunity to common coronaviruses and antibody titers diminishing to undetectable levels by about the 12th Week, but does that mean we are then completely unable to create corresponding memory B-Cell or recreate enough immunity each time we encounter a large concentration/viral load? How many reinfection cases are we talking about and what other information do we have surrounding it? Humoral and Myeloid immunity be damned, I mean we just appeared out of nowhere, right? There aren't any evolved biological systems at work having enabled our long-term survival? And those wouldn't be adaptable? Given this kind of level of potential panic creating news/analysis, would you advocate for some extreme containment of people? (The mink are sure experiencing the same level of mass containment we saw with Cattle in the case of Foot and Mouth) Should we lock everyone inside, perhaps we shutdown the global economies ever further until we completely close all supply lines? (/S) No mention of age, co-morbidities or any other factors...in this 2 paragraph assault on the senses or is this the kind of blanket numbers only reasoning (we all love life without the meta context) that means mass genotype testing such as 23andme can't be made fully available to the populous at large.

The region where it was discovered, which is as far from Copenhagen as you can physically get within our borders, has been completely shut down. Every test here is screened for different viral strains and geologically recorded. I definitely don't disagree that the border should be closed, but it's not like people here aren't being isolated.

What has made this pandemic truly historic above any others in modern history, is not the virus itself, but the complete and utter void of commonsensical rational, logic and reason, it has brought to the forefront, never before witnessed in human history. 1.25 million innocent men, woman and children are brutally killed and millions more severely and permanently brain damaged, handicapped, radically disfigured, amputated and burned each and every year in MVA's, so selfish people can own and operate an automobile for non-essential purpose, without legal consequence. This is irrationality of the highest order. Regardless of being a contagious microbial or not, the statistical data and math does not lie. A death, is a death, is a death, a life lost is a life lost, but particularly tragic when it occurs long before the time of natural life expectancy, so very common in automobile accidents yet, so very Rare with Covid-19. There is nothing unusual, mystical, exceptional or more deadly going on with SARS-COV-2 compared with any other pandemic in modern history. The difference is the hyper hysteria, perpetuating over-reactionary irrational fear and ignorance. Fueled primarily by the crazed information overload of this internet era and weak herding minds unable to process it. Consequently overwhelming the rational, logical region of the brain in a large portion of the population, over-riding individual critical thinking and analytical thought process. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6qYYnp_eNZ_b6c kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJzKhaShgZKVp7s kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqKWcpSZms6bqqs

The preppers are still nut jobs - because covid mortality in younger population is quite similar to flu, and as long as young people have not become immune through infection, little progress will be made. And not wearing a mask doesn't mean you think it's fake. It's still a much better idea not to wear the useless masks - but to simply avoid crowds of people and travel. The masks helped this pandemic spread because dumb people on the street believe they will protect from infection and even dumber people in authority keep preaching to reinforce those false beliefs.

Why stop at murdering minks, why not kill every animals on this planet while you're at it, just to be safe. 12 Danes get it and 17 million minks get blamed and culled for this? The world's gone mad, and you with it if you believe everything you hear. This insanity over one weak virus needs to stop. Viruses evolve and mutate from the get go, which is why the flu vaccine usually doesn't do any good the minute it's available. Don't get me wrong, some vaccines do work, but the rushed vaccines coming out of these labs will probably be utterly useless, never mind their side effects. But somebody's going to get extremely rich from this plandemic, that's a given. Which idiot or idiots infected the minks in the first place? Somebody had to initiate this. I can't see bats from China going over to Denmark for a holiday on minks! I'd bet mad scientists working with the CCP and the WHO imbeciles infected them at this point. It was the CCP which tried to blame dogs in China for this too and not so smart people were throwing their pets out of their high rises. We need to take these so called "scientists" and experts with a grain of salt. They still have no cure for most cancers. So they are not that smart. Where's the accountability for all this plandemic? Start asking real questions and don't believe everything you hear until you have real proof. The only real proof we have that there is a problem is in the form of lost businesses, lost jobs, lost income, and dwindling salaries if you're lucky to have a job, and inept politicians the world over trying to control people's lives. These fools are killing more people than this virus will ever kill when you add all the depression, new drug overdoses, suicides, etc. Compare death rates with other causes by looking up this factual website and don't drink so much Kool-Aid: www.worldometers.info/

Well, the greed is reflected not so much in mink farms, but in the revenue streams behind this pandemic. This is also the reason why the pandemic will be kept going on perpetually. It's like an entire new business and political model, which works splendidly for those in charge. With the new "leadership" over the pond, there is very little hope that it will be changed any soon - that's why a "90% effective" vaccine now needs a "mutation" which makes it necessary to develop yet another "90% effective" vaccine. After which there will be many more bio-apocalypses to come. Best of all, at some point (maybe today?) we will have technology to develop both new viruses and matching vaccines in tandem, so that they can be sold in a single neat package, with profits fairly shared among pharma businessmen and our benevolent rulers, and costs suffered by the public at large. This is how you can turn an unfair world into an even more unfair world, and your slaves will have no other option but thank you for "rescuing" them over and over again, rather than revolt.

In total, 200 people in Northern Jutland have tested positive for *any* mutated SARS-CoV-2 *(12 of which with the cluster 5 variant),* and 14 people in other parts of the country *(none of which with the cluster 5 variant). Only the cluster 5 variant has been shown to be less sensitive to antibodies from infection with the original variant.* A number of restrictions have been imposed in part of the region where all of the people who have tested positive for the cluster 5 variant live (Northern Jutland), including strong advisory for people to stay in their current municipality, remote learning for most students, closing of restaurants, and a prohibition of assemblies of more than 10 people. I do think, however, that the scope of which municipalities are affected might be a little too narrow. The North Jutland region will be testing all 280 000 people in the affected municipalities, starting from tomorrow. This is in addition to the regular test booking system. All new test will be fully genome sequenced to test for mutations, which should give more reliable data. The Patient Safety Authority will expand their contact tracing and pay special attention to mutation cases, and will also work more closely with police and municipalities to follow up on isolation and ensure that infected people are able to stay isolated (assisting with groceries etc.). --- Sources and more details (in Danish): - Infection counts, sensitivity to antibodies: www.ssi.dk/aktuelt/nyheder/2020/mutationer-i-minkvirus - Infection count correction: nyheder.tv2.dk/samfund/2020-11-06-fejl-resulterede-i-tilfaelde-paa-sjaelland - Restrictions: www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/overblik-saadan-rammer-de-nye-restriktioner-nordjylland - Testing, contact tracing: www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/live-nye-restriktioner-paa-vej-i-nordjylland

@@andrewlilley3660 Any other PM that not Winne Churchill would have capitulated to the stark reality of the near impossibility of defeating the Third Riech. Accomodation with Adolf would have ended the blockade which starved the German War economy and its war industrial output, its workforce/populace of essrntial resources like oil, refined petroleum products, nickel, chrome, maganese, molybenum, copper, tin, bauxite, rubber, industrial diamonds, platinum, silver, tungsten, wheat, beef, etc. Thanks to British terror bombings by Air Marshal Bomber Harris the Riech was forced to divert significant resources to anti aircraft guns 88s, air raid shelters, Radar installations, fighter air defence network. It also lost significant war industrial output and manpower to these bombing raids. Churchill held the line when there was no one else to hold the line. Without him a accomodation with Adolf is highly probable. That means the USA would not have been dragged in and its legislature could continue to maintain its isolationist stance if British decoupled its war against the Riech. That means no ABCD line and so that means that Imperial Japan could get its oil and hence no reason to strike at the USA to secure its oil cause its war fighting capacity would have crashed to zero within 30 or so months without oil. So instead of striking South to secure oil it could strike North to join Herr Adolf against its traditional foe the Russians. Peace with the Brits would have meant a Riech dominated Europe write large and vast expanses of European Russia colonised by the Riech. It also will mean that the British, Dutch, Belgium, maybe even France would be in a stronger poistion to cling on to their colonial Empire.

Hello John, thank you again for keeping us up to date and I hope you will get better soon. I'm watching all your videos religiously since February now, but I've decided to contribute in my own way : I'm a student in the last year of law school in Sorbonne University and my specialization is International and European law. I will get my Master's degree in a few months. So I think I will, when needed, give the legal framework that conditions decision making. Today it will be travel restrictions in case of suspicions of a health danger. INTERNATIONAL AND EUROPEAN LAW ABOUT TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS It's a very simple topic actually. In General International Law, the State is the master of its borders. It can close them whenever it wants and at best it just have to give a motivation for doing so. But even if it doesn't give one it still can close borders (for people traveling, not goods !) unilaterally and suddenly. In European law, or if there's a special treaty between the State and another State (like a free-trade agreement), in theory the State can close it's borders only for a few selected reasons. Article 45 of the TFEU provides that a State can put restrictions on travel based on considerations of Public Health. But the risk must be clear and immediate. Thankfully, the State does not have to provide full and complete scientific studies about the danger of such a public health concern right away because of the "Caution Principle". That principle dictates that in a case of uncertainty, the State can protect itself first before waiting on results from scientific studies and not be responsible for "overreacting" during the wait. The same principles apply to most such treaties. So I completely share your frustration as it is clear that what prevents action is not legal obligations, but political or economic considerations. The legal framework is there to take all necessary actions as soon as needed.

Well, not really. It's not actually very analogous. One is pretty much a known outcome, as far as we can say we "know" anything. The other has a largely unknown statistical likelyhood. That an educated estimate would deem it is reasonably low. I'm certainly no epidemiologist or virologist, but I seem to recall something about them more often becoming more benign. After all, killing off ones host wouldn't be advantageous, evolutionary speaking.

Dane here. I live near the epicentre of the mink farms and the main concern in my rural area is this disease spreading to pigs, meaning on the level of farmers and citizens they are primarily worried about the economic impact.
