The video transmitter:
Brand: Eachine
Model: TX801
Type: VTx
? Let me know which FPV AiO combos or VTx boards you would like to see tested! ?
** Attention: As always, make sure you use frequencies that comply to your country's legislations. **
This is RCTESTBEN.CH: Eachine TX801 FPV VTx RF Power Testing (5 / 25 / 50 / 100 / 200 / 400 / 600mW 72CH FPV VTx) - Let's go!

The test rig:
The RCTestBen.ch test rig for VTx RF Power Output is a DIY setup.
The RF Power Meter is made by ExpertRC and you can find it here: goo.gl/lfhgqd
(the RF Power Meter is produced in small batches - check back if it is currently not available)
The case is 3D printed, you can find the design here: goo.gl/34pk3M
Just to be clear: These tests are far from scientific BUT the main goal here is consistency and repeatability, so that you can compare the results between all the hardware tested. These tests focus in the transmitted power per channel/band. Channels, Bands and Frequencies are displayed according to manufacturer's spec sheets.
The measuring equipment used has been tried and tested repeatedly before starting out this RCTestBen.ch series.
The hardware that is tested is brand new and unused, in stock condition. Only 1 unit is tested and presented in this video. To my knowledge, this is not a cherry-picked product and certainly not a "best-of" measurements video. This is how the product performed right out of the box.
The tested hardware (FPV AiO / VTx) is powered from a regulated DC source. You can watch the voltage and current draw throughout the test.
The most prominent min and max values are logged on each channel of each band / power output. If you see a different value on the RF Power Meter in a still capture, it just happened to show up briefly when the photo was taken. Same applies for power consumption. It is monitored throughout the whole duration of the test and the most prominent min and max values on each channel are logged.
The FPV AiO camera/VTx combos are tested by de-soldering the stock antenna and soldering a coax cable in its place, which is connected on the other side to the RF Power Meter. There are plenty of the exact same conductor with the exact same length from the same batch, as spares. VTx boards with u.FL (IPEX) connector are tested via a u.FL to SMA thin coaxial cable. VTx boards with SMA or RP-SMA connector are tested via an SMA to SMA cable plus an adapter for RP-SMA. All these cables and adapters are available as spares (the exact same types, from the same batch).
Cooling plays a huge factor in the RF power output of VTx boards. Leaving a VTx running for a short period of time in room temperature results in a quick drop of power output - even by blowing with your mouth results in a quick rise in power output. All FPV AiO and VTx boards are tested with a constant airflow over both sides of the VTx PCB board. Testing is done slowly and may take up to 35 minutes, depending on the amount of bands/channels available on the tested VTx board - after all the channels are cycled through, settled, measured and logged, the first channels are re-checked in order to confirm accuracy, consistency and stability of the transmitted power.

I really like the way you review vtx's! Knowing what band and channel is going to give you the most umph at any given power setting is awesome. I'd love to see a review of HGLRC's TX20. I'm considering the HGLRC F428 stack (including the TX20) in my next build, and would love to see a review of it.

+floorpizza I have ordered one more than 2 months ago and had it resent, it probably got lost. Looking forward to testing it as well and I will probably combine it with the F428 also. I will be upgrading the test rig very soon, I ordered an RFExplorer 6G Combo for more in-depth testing ;)

I'd give a 100 likes. I wish you or someone else would test another TX801 and see if there is a tendency on this VTX to deliver more power on lower frequencies.

Thank you +1Esteband! I am not planning to get another TX801 and in general it is difficult for me to test multiples of the same VTx. These tests take a long time. If I come across another TX801 I will do a sample test and come back to you.

I suppose that any VTx will work but I cannot help with the pinout of your camera. Will you use one of those USB to servo plug cables?

Which Frequency and chanel do you recommend for Eachine EV800 with this Vtx.
@muteFPV
@muteFPV 6 жыл бұрын
This is something I cannot give you the answer for. You can select your preferred channel according to my tests of this VTx but other than that, there are many variables introduced in a complete VTx-VTx antenna-VRx antenna-VRx system. The tune / quality of your antennas and the characteristics of the receiver on the EV800 will also affect reception.

Can someone explain me what exactly is this device for? what could I do with it? sorry the ignorance
@muteFPV

It is used to transmit video. You connect a video input (camera) and an antenna to it and it sends an analogue video signal on a frequency of your choice. You can mount it on anything, usually a multirotor, r/c plane/wing or r/c car. You then use a receiver with monitor or goggles, to view remotely the image it transmits.

+Matt Jones I didn't test all the output power levels, it is too much work. I tested the ones that can be compared to other VTx boards. Usually the pattern is similar between various power levels, so you can estimate the best performing frequencies based on the available results.

Thanks for the reply, actually what I really wanted to know is, on the very lowest setting, can I play with this thing inside my house without the risk of it overheating?
@muteFPV
@muteFPV 6 жыл бұрын
+Matt Jones you can operate it at 25mW and it will be just fine imho, just don't let it run for more than a few minutes. You mean fly indoors or for doing tests / setup / troubleshooting on the bench?
@usarmyfl1
@usarmyfl1 6 жыл бұрын
Tests on the bench and flying. I think the lowest setting should be fine as I wont have it on for more than a few minutes at a time and I also plan on adding a little pi heatsink/thermal paste. maybe too. Hell even a tiny pi fan as well. I may use it for just testing in the end or both lol
@muteFPV

+Matt Jones I recommend using a fan when on the bench. When moving around it will be fine on its own :)
