For anyone who's skeptical of this method, since I myself haven't done a lot of touring - I ain't the only one doing it. Head over to the Indepreneur Facebook group and ask around. They've got some pretty phenomenal results with this technique.

Do tribute bands have to pay royalties or fees to original artists?
@tamarasanders57963 жыл бұрын
@@bluefish5512 I would say it depends. If you're making a lot of money doing it and I mean a lot of money then yes but some bands are worst then others when it comes to playing their music. That's like the eagles they're very protective over their music and they won't even give the rights to other people even if they pay them. But than there are bands that love it when people play there music like guns n roses motley crue halestorm bon jovi Joan Jett pat benetar etc... you just kind of have to play around with it and you'll learn as you go. Hope this help😁

The more complicated thing is if you're doing a tour outside of your own country. That's something I have never heard anyone talking about even if they state that one shouldn't make a record deal with a label.
@KevinGoetz7 жыл бұрын
While I haven't done it myself, I've spoken with some who have, and at least according to them, this exact same strategy works. It just takes a lot longer to compile your custom audiences, since you have to target so many more places.

Really cool! Thank you. I would say also to target a band who is already touring and ask to open for them?
@KevinGoetz7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! That's definitely a worthwhile suggestion. A lot of the time the bands won't reply, but it doesn't cost anything to try :)

Your vids are awesome man! Thank you for sharing.... Well if you are talking about well established acts? But what about local bands who are just starting and touring their state, etc? I think they would be excited to have another band thats is out of town to share a stage with, as you say it would not hurt asking.

Be aware that if you do something like this, you will likely not be paid. Be prepared to finance your time on the road with them. Know the number of dates with them and the miles between those dates so you can budget funds for gas, meals and lodging. Load your gear after the set and be ready to leave, but hang around for a bit and socialize with the band and fans, your attitude goes a long ways in this business. Having a designated driver will ensure your safe arrival at the next destination. It would also be wise to allow the headlining band to load their gear in first.

What makes it hard as an independent artist, it's hard to advertise, y'know, you as an artist you're working on your music but now you have to also manage on how can you make yourself known and famous and you have to maintain it, it can get a little frustrating... But still, as I am starting, I'm still gonna be an independent artist... I am studying about it, on how and what are the things I have to manage and give time for me to work better and easier... Signing through labels, I've found that they'll control you, and for me, I know what I wanna do and I don't want anyone control it... Sure that record labels can make u famous almost instantly, but y'know it has a price, they're the ones who controls your profit, your work of music and it can be also your image, on how you are gonna appear to the crowd... But I'm not saying that record labels are evil, but I think I may not be comfortable of the pressure I can face during my work with it, and I don't wanna make music stressful, coz I just wanna have fun... The best thing that I am always thinking of is just give yourself time to think and feel of what you wanna do, study things that questions you, make simple actions that can benefit the situation you're in and your goals, and just enjoy and make it happen. Have trust in yourself. Always find the best way possible, don't make it too hard. Enjoy it, make it a part of your life and play with it.

This covers the basics, but let's get into more specifics: OK, So, coincidentally I grew up in the metro east area (Jerseyville) and I lived in Springfield for 20 years, and I now live in Chicago. I also love symphonic metal and prog (ps, I have a video comparing Tarja and Floor that got super controversial, check it out if you want). I can tell you that Symphonic Metal and Prog plays better in Chicago than it does in Springfield or even in the metro east. So, how do you find out what cities/scenes have that bigger audience for the style? Because, I think that's why labels and national acts target markets like that. Playing prog/symphonic metal just isn't well received in these rural areas that would rather hear "FREEBIRD!"

Kevin Goetz, i have a question. Right now, there is a night market near me, and they might be open to let me get bands to perform in their venue. How do i manage this or set this up? Initially, my thoughts are, talk with the night market first, with the schedule, and what they might be willing to pay, say on a nightly basis, then from that, compute the potential expenses, like renting a PA, and the fees of the bands that will be booked...

@Shitty_shellshock6 жыл бұрын
Mute Prophet Band nah I was refuting my comment, very different. What I have against it is that it's terrible advice. You're advocating terrible expensive ideas that have "worked for you." You book tours by having friends in different cities, or by going out and making friends, not by paying for likes on Facebook.
@dantesaliba85334 жыл бұрын
Step 0 get friends that listen to your style of music. Now this sounds ridiculous but with every show I’ve played with any band of mine, 98-99% of my friends say “no sorry I’m not gonna buy a ticket. I don’t listen/like your style of music”
