@pasha_exodite6475Ай бұрын
Thanks for the mod, it's really a wonderful piece of history. In Russia it's rumored that at some point Sablin realised that nobody would let him speak to the nation, and Baltic Fleet and Naval Aviation will simply sink his ship, so he tried to change his course for Sweden to ask for a political asylum for himself and the part of his crew that supported him. He didn't quite make it anyway. It's still disputed though, as this whole story and many of its facts are still under the shroud of propaganda and secrecy.
@raa729Ай бұрын
The crew freed the captain and then regained control of the ship and surrendered. All went to gulag, including the captain, Sablin was executed. No hits were on target, bombers only managed to hit a friendly ship from pursuing flotilla, despite Storozhevoy actually did not shoot back
@pasha_exodite6475Ай бұрын
@@raa729 well, not exactly. Sablin was executed - yes. But he actively insisted that the whole mutiny thing was his own responsibility and begged to spare the crew. So for others the consequenses were surprisingly soft: only a single sailor (who assisted Sablin most actively) was sentenced for 8 years in prison. Others were just lowered in ranks and transferred to other ships and fleets while signing a non-disclosure agreement, and some others were fired from the military. The ship herself was tranferred to the Pacific and given the entirely new crew and captain.

WOO-HOO, I made it! I've really, really enjoyed this scenario. The only drawback is that IRL the Soviets sent Yak-28's against the Storozhevoy, but since there's no such plane in the game (for now) i think it's ok. Some tips for you, guys (spoiler warning): 1. At the wery beginning, turn on air search radars and head North at full speed, it will give you a bit more precious time between attacks and better angles 2. Set "weapons hold", there's no use in wasting your limited 76mm ammunition anyway (guns will never hit the plane uless it's within the distance of a bayonet jab) 3. The most important thing: as soon as you see incoming jets, manually fire a salvo of 2 missiles at each, this will give you the maximum possible hit probability. If you're lucky, you'll have "1 salvo = 1 kill", but even if you're not, you'll still have time for 1 more salvo before the enemy drops bombs. 4. After you've dealt with the air threat, turn off all your radars and continue heading North as far as possible, then head SW along the coast of the Saaremaa island. This will allow you to outmaneuver a formation of small torpedo boats without engaging them - they will continue to rush East searching for you. 5. Finally, there are some corvettes near the very exit from Gulf of Riga. You can just sneak past them, or try to destroy them, but remember that your "early" SS-N-14A Silex can hit submarines only, not the surface ships, and your torpedoes are also anti-sub only, so your only option is 76mm guns - think twice if you really-really need to fight such a battle.

0:44 For those unfamiliar with Soviet history, the Aurora is a protected cruiser built in the late 1890s for the Imperial Russian Navy which was seized by her crew, sailed up the Neva River into Petrograd and at 9:45 PM on the 7th of November 1917 (possibly apocryphally) fired the first shots of the October Revolution. She was later turned into a museum ship by the Soviets for exactly that reason (later being after fighting in WW2), moored on said river, where she remains to this day. She's also one of two surviving ships from the Battle of Tsushima.

17:51 - I guess you could dodge, tho'. If you try to extent directly away from the incoming air strike and go hard to port or starboard the instant the bomber drops its payload. Since the bombs are unguided and impact in a straight line, they should(!) all miss (barely, that is). edit: In addition: countermeasures have a cooldown/reload as well. So if you launch two missiles a couple seconds apart instead of a salvo of two in quick succession, the enemy will be able to evade the first missile, but the second might hit the now defenseless target.

So I decided to try this scenario only half way through the video. Nearly got to the end. I noticed that if you just right click on the target you want to fire on, the ship just does it, in fact click it multiple times and it will fire the corresponding missiles. I found if you selected the missile and told it to fire at the target, the ship delayed for some reason. So that might be the reason you died so many times.

@ryanpayne7707Ай бұрын
23:06: This makes ZERO sense. Chaff works by creating a larger radar return, and the missile targets the center of that return. Since the "ghost image" is so much larger than the target, ideally, the missile would miss. The SA-N-4 here, though, completely ignores the radar return and turns AWAY from what is the center of the new return. I think its hard coded that chaff simply causes the missile to fly off in a random direction. I get that this is a naval sim, but considering how much of a threat aircraft pose to ships, I'm disappointed with how much they neglected air- and surface to air combat.

An Udaloy's missiles (3K95 Kinzhals in VLS launchers) are much better than the Osas carried by a Krivak, but they're also shorter ranged if I remember correctly so I'm not sure how well that would work. Something like a Kashin (with medium-range M-1 Volna SAMs) would probably be better.
@totalNERD-eo7wxАй бұрын
@@taiko1237 According to Wikipedia, the Osa has 12km range and the Tor/Kinzhal has 25km range.

@@totalNERD-eo7wx Curious, Wikipedia says that the Kinzhal (or more specifically the 9K335 missile it launches) has a range of 12km or 6.5nmi for me, while the 9M33 missile that an Osa system launches has a range of 15km.
@totalNERD-eo7wxАй бұрын
@@taiko1237 Ok, Ok. I was mistakenly looking at the range of the Tor-M1, which is a more modern version of the naval variant. So you are right that the naval Kinzhal has a 12km range, but the naval Osa is based on the 9M33M; Wikipedia states that the 9M33M3 extends the range to 15km, while the 9M33M2 reaches 10km, and earlier versions are up to 9km. In short, short range missiles are short range.

I'm not sure how SAM ranges are modeled in this game, maybe you can't fire until the target is within that range? Theoretically, you should be able to engage said target before that. For example, the target approaches at 1000 kph and you're firing a SAM that goes 1000 kph to a range of 8 km. You should be able to engage when the target is within 16 km. Tha SAM should meet the target at 8 km distance. Unless radar, radio command, etc. are the limiting factors.
@SturmGewehr1944xАй бұрын
I mean this is obviously simplistic. Just read about SAM Envelopes. This is the kind of thing Aegis is excellent at, but I don't see any of that in this AI, sadly.

What account did you get that BS from? The Soviets weren't directly attacking the ship. The purposely dropped bombs near the ship as a warning shot. Same with gunfire from Soviet ships. If they wanted to sink the ship, they could have done it with a missile. But that'd be stupid as it's one of their own ship. What source do you even have about them hitting their own ship? The Soviets caught Sablin by boarding the ship. If they didn't care about the survival of the ship, they wouldn't bother boarding and just shot it with missiles.
