"No way"! This brings back memories. This was the second twin stick game I played. Karate Champ was the first.

Wow, didn't know about all these versions! This game really inspired me to one day make a game for myself. It always was in the back of my mind to make something like this. And now I am working on it. ❤️

I simply must know how home computer owners justified games like this in the waning days of their systems. Did C64 and Amstrad people try to say that they didn't need advanced graphics and background music because they were more mature or something?
@FadkinsDiet7 ай бұрын
And the c64 is plenty capable of doing music as good as the NES did
@veganmeatballsareyoukiddingme7 ай бұрын
Some people couldn't afford other systems, So they held on to what they had.
@gwishart6 ай бұрын
We justified it by saying: "I'd like to spend a few quid to play this game on a computer I already own - because I can't justify spending three months' wages on an Amiga or Atari ST."

They was needed to use one color background trick for NES to make boss bigger and more colorful. It worked for Contra C and some other Konami games
@gwishart6 ай бұрын
Presumably that trick works by making the boss 'sprite' out of background tiles, and using scroll registers to move it around the screen?
@Deimos_Fresh8 ай бұрын
Didn't know there was NES version. Gonna try it eventually.
@andyc65427 ай бұрын
Why though? Other than it being an odd curiosity, it really isn’t a great way to play the game if you can play it on better hardware.
@Deimos_Fresh7 ай бұрын
@@andyc6542, mostly curiosity, but if it's a good port, then I can play it more often. Better hardware not always means better games. Mario All-Stars and Ninja Gaiden Trilogy is a good example for SNES and Batman Revenge of Joker for Sega example.
@Lynxan7 ай бұрын
@@Deimos_Fresh I had it back in the day and it is good for what it is. Just be sure to have a 4 player adapter and a lot of joysticks if you want to play it with two players, playing with a single controller sucks.

- Great comparison video! - Can you do a comparison of Mega Man X3 (PS1 & SNES), Mega Man & Bass (SNES & GBA), Wily Wars (NES & Genesis) & Mega Man World Series (GB & GBC)?

Why does he look better on the C64 than the Amiga and ST? Man, Ocean had the wrong team working on those. It should look way better than this.

@retrosutra8 ай бұрын

Amiga and ST are both fair ports, just Amiga is lot smoother. Im glad that c64 managed that huge boss sprite, bu total lack of backround graphics... On cpc and zx, the boss moves so stuttery, its a joke.

C64, Spectrum and CPC are computers from 1982-84 with limited memory compared to later machines. They only had so much memory space to fit games from the arcade into. Sacrifices were always going to be made.

Why even show the PSX and Xbox versions? They're just the arcade version. So you showed the arcade version three times.

@@retrosutraThat’s interesting, I’ve always assumed they were emulation, based on the PSX and Xbox being powerful enough to emulate the arcade. In my mind, writing a port would be much more work! You may very well be right, I’d just like to know more about your reasoning. Thanks for a great video!
