thank you for the video helped hopefully take away the mystery of producing a song. I have alot of beats and loops hopefully I can move into another realm here.

This is real cool. I produce a lot of smooth jazz on Reason 8. I plan on incorporating electronic sounds and producing using blocks. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for watching! Reason 11, aka Reason Studios, is an amazing upgrade from 8 :-)

Erik Hawk cool, is it compatible with older macs? I El Capitan and my interface is the Steinberg UR22.

@@willsims2009 Yes Reason Studios/Reason 11 works with OSX 10.11. I've got this same setup. Here are the system requirements, www.reasonstudios.com/en/reason/faq

First producer guy that I see using the right tempo, most guys just put a 130 bpm and makes a song in 65 bpm 8/8 LOL, and when I correct them they just don't trow me punches cause this is in the internet, not real life and as a musician I really don't know what's the difficult to set the right tempo... btw cool video, I liked how this can be very pratical, I am considering to use reason and ableton live as my two main DAW's in the future, I like ableton for producing and reason for mixing and audio tuning, what ableton it's not great...

Ha ha, yeah count the 1/4 notes people, that's your tempo! If you are counting half-time all of your tempo grid calculations will be off. I'm always explaining this to students. Glad you noticed! Thanks for watching :-)

hi Eric, nice video. I noticed that you use a Nektar Panorama P4 midi keyboard. How you like using it with Reason?
@ErikHawk4 жыл бұрын
It's fantastic, I love it. It's a little more complicated to use than other standard MIDI controllers but once you get it all set up you've got really deep control over Reason. Plus, Nektar is great. I had the P4 for a few years and all the rubber started getting sticky. I emailed tech support and they sent me out a complete new package of all the knobs, faders, and even the Pitch and Mod Wheels. How about that for customer service?
@ivanvelez76684 жыл бұрын
@@ErikHawk wow that is great service. I do have the P4 myself now for almost 2 years. I also think its a great product. still getting used to its features. Im also a reason user too. I just recently started viewing your videos and so far I have enjoyed them.

Just im curious ! you use the reason samplers or you use another library ? like loopmaster for example?
@ErikHawk4 жыл бұрын
I use the Reason samplers. When I'm working in Reason I really enjoy using all of the Reason samplers (NN-XT, NN-19, Redrum, Kong, Dor. Octo REX). You can do anything with them! For sounds I use the stock samples or samples from my collection of WAV files that I've amassed over the years.

Do you need a keyboard? Or just a computer?
@ErikHawk4 жыл бұрын
I always recommend a MIDI controller keyboard. But Reason has a computer QWERTY keyboard mode too, so you can play notes from your computer keyboard. I'm not going to say it's ideal but it can be done without a MIDI controller.

"Here's how to produce quickly" * takes 4 hours to move across the screen because he uses touchpad like a poor person * * moved markers manually instead of using Ctrl-Click and Alt-Click * * uses blocks when you could just Ctrl-D whole sections *

You are correct, those are excellent shortcuts and serious users of Reason Studios should make these shortcuts part of their workflow. Shortcuts can really help speed up your operations. Though doing a tutorial in which I just use shortcuts doesn’t allow people to see the process, it just shows off how fast I can execute a command where literally nobody watching knows what I did. So yeah, there’s that. Your suggestions are actually really relevant so I’m going to leave your comment, but if I might make a suggestion, please try and frame your comments in a less negative and more constructive manner. We really need positivity in the world, especially right now. Thanks for watching.
