Heaven Scent is a legendary track! Seriously were there any DJ in the scene that didn’t play it back then? 😅 I can warmly recommend POBs remixes of it. He transformed it into something truly dark! Essential stuff! Thanks Nick. We owe you a lot!

I highly recommend anybody learning music production to spend some time listening to the complex nature of how the bassline and drums interact with each other on this track. The depth of production on every aspect of the track are unreal. A true classic. I've always been fascinated with how the main piano riff was created, this video is a truly inspiring insight into a track that shaped dance music at the end of the millennium.

Bedrock from the start has been my favorite from that era. I bought that first John Digweed Bedrock Compilation in 99 and discovered Heaven Scent. Rented the VHS of the movie Go from Hollywood Video and heard it again. I went crazy and bought every Mix I could find with artist featured on Bedrock and Global Underground. Started going to shows with Sasha and Digweed together and separate when they came out to Los Angeles. I missed that era from 96-05 and went crazy about 5 yrs ago and got everything on vinyl from Bedrock and many other progressive house labels. My Technics, Xone 92, and 1K plus records is one of my greatest possessions.

It's strange how Heaven Scent arrived around the same sort of time as Sasha's "Xpander" - both absolutely monster tracks and I own both on the original 12" vinyl. Both very "big" tracks - kind of a magnum opus moment for both Sasha and Muir/Digweed around the same time. I've always liked "Lifeline", the B-side to Heaven Scent - it doesn't get the same recognition but is just as good a track - it's like an alternate version of Heaven Scent that simmers and sizzles but never completely explodes.

Great interviews by Nick. Gone very in depth with the synths he used and the background of them, what sound they were trying to achieve and what was around at that time. Not sure there's been a better interview on this entire channel for me, just with how easygoing and in depth he goes, even though I have many other favourites. Another awesome interview. It was so good to hear Nick talking in depth about the equipment used, as well as the production methods and mindset they had when making the track what it became. The lead synth sound is so huge and iconic, and the overall pumping groove from that desk compression he mention really creates that special vibe it has. I’d have loved to have known where that robotic male vocal snippet which appears during the break is from though!

Would love to do an interview with Charlie / Steve, but unfortunately I don’t have a travel budget for these interviews. Muzikxpress is “just” a hobby for me and the little advertise revenue I’m getting is being used for equipment and to cover a part of the costs for gas / parking for the interviews I’m doing in places in The Netherlands or just across the German / Belgian border. Maybe one day, but for now I don’t see this happening anytime soon, budgets are meh these days unfortunately… But, more to come for sure! 🙌🏻

Love this track. The POB Seismix has always been my favorite. While I love the original it has always had this weird thing about it I could never quite figure out. Heaven Scent, the original mix, has never behaved like other tracks from the era. I could never really figure out why. I only knew that production wise, it sounded like some other genres of music from the era. Hearing Nick talk about the track having that heavy compression makes sense though. I bet that's what it is. Most other Trance tracks from that era didn't use that yet. Curiosity solved. 👍
