Thank you for reacting to this band. Their latest original release is "Fearless". But then they released "Reminiscence", a tribute to a Korean rock band from the '70s. Beautiful song and really showcases Jayoung's voice. Jayoung - Vocal, Piano/Keyboards Iree - Guitar (Orange Hair) Hyunjung - Guitar (Blue Hair) Arem - Bass Yeongeun - Drums

This is my favourite Rolling Quartz song. It is a cover of the 2003 original by Korean rock singer Maya. The lyrics come from a very famous 1925 Korean poem that every Korean student studies in school. The poem is so significant because it was written during the Japanese occupation of Korea, and even though it is about a person telling their loved one that they won't shed a tear if they leave them (and in fact will scatter flowers on the path as they leave), the underlying message is intended as an insult to the Japanese occupiers.

Beautiful lyrics, based on an ancient Korean poem, and filmed at a UENSCO World Heritage Site, this is one of my favourite MVs by Rolling Quartz. They also perform a wide range of covers live from Lady GaGa, through the insane rap-rock version of Pink Venom, to even For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica, so they are all very talented, especially the petite purple-haired drummer😊

Every time this video pops up in my feed (daily) I watch it again and don't get tired of it. They have other great songs too, although their English covers are kind of hit and miss imo. This band is part of my inspiration to try to learn Korean (the other part is to see if I can learn to function with a different alphabet).

Good stuff. I saw RQ live in Seattle and they are absolutely the real deal. Jayoung is a legit rock star front woman, and all of them are just the sweetest people ever. They just finished a sold-out European tour, and apparently there is new music coming this summer. Side note: this song is a cover, based on an iconic Korean poem which was written during the Japanese occupation. On the surface it is a breakup song, but at the time it was also understood as a sneaky metaphor for kicking the occupiers to the curb. You might also try their latest original Fearless kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4fTYqKca79jqNEsi=MWZNB6d2fUAzEUAs, or Reminiscence kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpC8oKKAqcSYrbcsi=H1XMetc3HrIn_ZpX. The latter is another cover made for a 50th Anniversary compilation of songs by the group Sanullim. Rolling Quartz completely made it their own, with the full approval of the original artist...he even appears in the video.

Is it a true cover or based on a poem? Wondering if it similar to Nightwish, Song of Myself, which uses the lyrics from a Walt Whitman poem but the music and vocals are all the bands interpretation.

This is my first time hearing this band as well. I like the clean production sound…all of the instruments and vocals can be clearly heard without the muddy mess that modern overly compressed production tends towards. The harmonies, particularly at the end were really good. I also hear the similarities between this band and The Warning. It also looked like the drummer was playing without shoes…Pau often plays in her socks and only puts her shoes on for those rare occasions that she comes front stage for a song.

Wow...I have been a fan since day Zero and when the band was called Rose Quartz! I love your feedback at 6.02.. the solo is so amazing and blends to a KPop ballad song so perfectly. I have read that the entire band loves Iron Maiden and I her a lot of classical metal in this song. Mixing the chord progression with a KPop ballad is just Brillant!

As a TW fan I really like their sound, but Dany has more of that rock rasp imo! I connect with them more than say BM. BM is great and very skilled, but it is completely different from the old rock and metal of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. TW’s music connects to old memories(feelings) from that era, I think Rolling Quartz is fairly close also!😊⚡️

I think you and I have a clear overlap on this type of music - that’s why it’s easy to recommend! It is just so much cleaner and more cohesive than the Band Maids and Lovebites….. and no issue with The Warning comparison. Good music is good music and good singers are good singers. What got me first about this band, because I had been trying hard to get a vibe for the Japanese metal bands, was how much better this singer is vocally, as per my tastes. Just straight up rock - none of overindulged vibrato that the Japanese singers seem to gravitate towards! Looking forward to more reactions because they are fairly new to me as well! Cheers from “the shit”! 😅

Yoe see, that's what I like about music and the perception of it. Just yesterday I watched a reaction to Fearless by Rolling Quartz and the reactor compared them to The Warning. Immediately there were comments like: "They are not even close to The Warning. Their sound is thin, like a garage band. I'm not impressed with the singer's voice." I am a fan of Rolling Quartz. And I also like all kind of those Japanese bands. Babymetal, for their different approach to metal, although some say they are not metal. Nemophila with their singer's Mayu great mix of clean singing and screaming. Even kpop, especially Dreamcatcher, a girl group that always has some metal and rock elements in their songs. But also works with Jazz, EDM. Reggae and other genres.

@@bunyip-ni6ch Well, those comments you quoted certainly exemplify why not everyone should express themselves on social media. My favourite response is: “It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.“ MT.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Much better than those other Japanese girl bands. I can't stand the superfast playing of instruments where it sounds like each member is playing their own song. It's just a cacophony of noise. These ladies work their instruments to make music. Each instrument complimenting the other. A beautiful voice without any annoying affectations (and not that squeaky Japanese girl sound). Yes, it also reminded me of Dany. My only problem is English, or the lack thereof. Hard to appreciate it fully.
