It's her own "palette" - the colors that make her special in her own way. She's telling us that she's grown up and has found herself. When she released her song "Twenty-Three", she was still confused over what she wanted to be due to how the public viewed her as she grew up. Now she's an adult who embarrassed herself and GD's verse is him as a big brother comforting her that she's still young, beautiful, and has much more ahead of her.

Palette's part of iu's "age series" that reflects on her life. So far it includes twenty three, palette, and eight (corresponding to her korean ages 23, 25, and 28). Personally palette is my favorite bc I love its chill vibe and how well gd's voice goes with iu's, but I love all of them. You should check out twenty three too

For some context, IU debuted at 15 but only had her breakthrough hit “Good Day/One fine Day” (she referenced her hair and outfit from that song in that line in palette) at the age of 17. From that his she became known as “Korea’s Little Sister” and her popularity skyrocketed. As she continued to grow up both as a young woman and artist she started to get some criticism for straying from that image. She had a bit of scandal with Eunhyuk of Super Junior who not only was older but didn’t catch nearly as much shit for it than she did. IU always had a great range of music styles but I think the biggest shift would be her sing “23” If you’re interested in seeing how IU grown up musically, I really recommend these songs in order. Having grow up in public eyes she was telling her story of finding her true self vs the image the public has set of her. Mid 20s the age we're people goes through mid life crisis but in her case its much more challenging with the pressure of being an artist. This collab is wholesome, its more than a collab like you said GD's rap verse sounds more personal since they're close irl and GD could relate to what she's going through a lot because both of them basically grow up in the industry, he's like his big brother in the music industry

As others have said, this is the second song IU wrote about her age, the first being “Twenty-three.” In “Twenty-three” she talks about the chaos of your early 20’s when you still don’t really know who you are (it’s deeper than this explanation obviously. I like to sort of think of it as IU’s version of “Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman”). This song, released two years later feels kind of like a direct response to “Twenty-three.” She’s much more self-assured and has a good handle on who she is and what she likes. “8” is the most recent age-related song and that one explores being 28.

Yes collab by the two biggest soloists in Korea. They are omnipotent figures in the Korean music scene. GD uses a wordplay for “You will always be loved by YOU”, “ai-you”, which also sounds like IU.

I go here after see you post your "Killing Voice" reaction, need to see your experience w/ IU first :D yes you're right, this is quite a personal song, and actually have a connection with 23 (Twenty Three) and Eight as "Age series". IU tend to pull "personal song" that just tell us abt herself but can be adapted to ppl / the listener too, with her voice and her ability to convey emotions, this method become VERY effective ... And about "Palette"/ 25 she wanted to tell her fans that she has became more mature, and she learned to love herself better. ---> In Lilac she tells us more abt this . Iu is known as the nations little sister and princess of kpop although I would rank her queen along with many other artists. She is not only an amazing singer songwriter but she is also an actress.
