I think a better translation for that would be "Mumei is my name" to parallel the first version of that line a bit better, but obviously that doesn't really change anything with the song itself.
@Kozaki09 Жыл бұрын
It kinda did actually, at least in the japanese subs it was first written with the kanji "無名" then later on the last part it was written in katakana (ムメイ) like how her name is written
@mikukumiku Жыл бұрын
@@gazelle_diamond9768Not really. まま simply describes a state of being, so Xのまま is to be (or remain) in state X. Since the entire sentence is to live (in the declarative using よ), then both lines will translate to "For now, we are living/I will go on (living) as [mumei]". The main distinction I think here is that the second time around when her name is translated directly, the English decides to capitalize it as "Mumei", making it clear that the persona in the song is, in fact, Mumei. But since the title of the song is a lower case "mumei", this implies that Mumei is encouraging us to self-insert in her story of self-actualization (i.e. going from a common noun "mumei" to a proper noun "Mumei" - an actual name, no longer "nameless". EDIT: quite similarly, the Japanese subtitles does this as well transitioning from 無名 to ムメイ). This is all the more reason why I feel that the song is so well thought out in terms of language, musicality, and visual spectacle. Despite Mumei trying to downlplay everything in her follow up stream, I think she really outdid herself this time. Props to Mumei, TKN, and Ootori-san for doing such an amazing job.

I just read this comment while listening to the song, and suddenly the whole meaning of the song clicked in my head and gave me a big ol bucket of feels. I didn’t realize how much Mumei’s VTuber name actually means to her. (I know she’s talked about it and someone clipped a 15 minute segment of it, but I haven’t watched that yet. But I bet it’s gonna leave me in my feels when I do watch it.) EDIT: YEP, I watched it and got another bucket of feels I wasn’t prepped for 😭

If you can do a breakdown for Nanashi too, as that's part of Mumei's name play (even if has nothing to do with the song specifically), it would help people realize how playful of a name Nanashi Mumei is.
in addition: Nanashi(名無し) = Wago(和語), Mumei(無名) = Kango(漢語) Simply thinking, "Wago(和語)" means Japanese traditionaled word "Kango(漢語)" is Japanese but Chinese-origin word There actually isn’t much of a difference between those, but if i had to say, When to Use: 和語(wago)→ Casual, Daily 漢語(Kango) → Formal, seriously hope this helps

At first I thought this song was for Mumei, but when I listen to it, I realized that this song is also for you and me, for us. I felt that the reason why the name of the song is "mumei " and not "Mumei" , because it is not a proper noun, but a song to encourage the nameless. I also felt that being a mumei is not a negative thing, but a thing full of possibilities. We don't know most of the people who live in this world, and we will continue to live without knowing them, but what is important is not what someone's names are, but that I am here, and you must be in this world. I thought it was wonderful that Mumei sang to us with smiling and like standing close to us.

My interpretation of the song’s story: Mumei was lost and alone in the world, not really sure what to do. A nameless person will never be known or loved, destined to be forgotten. It hurts, because nobody wants to be alone, so she desperately wanted to find someone. The only clue she has is a lantern and a letter she found in the darkness. She doesn’t know the name or the face of the person who wrote the letter, but it was all she has, so she clings to it and it pushed her forward in the hopes of someday finding the letter’s author. In her head she’s imagining all the fins things they will do together. In her travels she meets the lady on the water. Who is this lady? She was someone else just like Mumei. This lady tells her to stop chasing shadows. This is when Mumei’s eyes are opened. You will never find someone chasing the idea of a person. Only by putting yourself out there to be seen will people find you. Looking at the lantern and no longer hiding under a hood she changes her position from a seeker to guide and is able to be a light in the darkness for others who were like her. She knows what it is like because she was just like them. She journeys across the darkness and other mumeis see her. The truth is that the world was never empty. She had focused on this one person in a letter that she could not see all the people who were around. And one day someone in the darkness finds her. Is this the person she was longing for? No, but this person is real and here now and that is worth so much more than some idea of a person. Eventually endings happen, but the world keeps going. The whale isn’t gonna stop swimming just because a light has gone out. The whale probably doesn’t even know it crossed the lantern holder’s path. You’re going to need to be okay with that. If you feel alone in the darkness desperately looking for someone, at the end of the song is a lantern left for you. It even has your name on it. Stop hiding your face, pick up that lantern and hold it up for someone to find you. It may not be the person you were looking for, but it will be even greater. It’s not a self titled song. It’s a song for you.

@@meh6513i’ll be honest, this comment scared me to post. It had been turning in my mind since the video came out and I knew I had to write it eventually. I didn’t want to write it too early because if people liked it my thoughts would end up in the top comments somewhere. When I saw she was gonna have a talk about the song i thought, “oh thank goodness. She’ll set the record straight and I can comment guilt free knowing I’m wrong.” But then her thoughts were, “wouldn’t it be a cool if a whale was there?” Mumei! What are you doing to me? Plan B now was to post the comment at an inconvenient time in hopes that it is both late enough to not be in the first wave of comments and late enough to be buried in a wave of new comments. I kinda wanted my comment to be thrown into the sea never to be seen by anyone, least of all Mumei herself. Imagine my surprise that not only did I get a reply, it has way more likes than I was expecting. 3 was my high estimate before it should have been buried from sort by Newest. But I am glad it resonated with people. To anyone reading this, when the day comes you pick up your lantern, it may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, it may not even be next year; i have no idea when it will happen, but hold it up with pride and someone will find you. I was trying to not be seen and people found me, coward that I am.

@@SenseofNoneYTIt gets better. "Nanashi" is written using the characters 七詩, which literally means "seven poems". This is likely in reference to "The poem of Seven Steps" of Chinese origin (七步詩). This is an allegorical summary of major events in Chinese history and was referenced in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It basically illustrates the irony of a situation where a pot of beans are being cooked using fire stoked by the stems of the same plant where the beans came from. It highlights the farce of human conflict and I think is a very apt summary of Mumei's lore as the Guardian of Civilization. Everything about this Owl is just amazing. According to ancient Egyptian mythology, the human soul is divided into five aspects: The ba is your personality. It's the closest thing to what we would call the "soul" today. The ib is your heart. It also represents your morality, the sum of all of your good and bad deeds in life. The ka is your life force. It could also be described as your "energy". The sheut is your shadow. This is your entire impact on the people and world around you. The ren is your name. It's the sum of your life experiences that make you who you are today. I think the lantern Mumei is carrying is her ren. One day the world will forget about her completely, and her name will be lost to time. But no matter how small and insignificant her flame is, as long as someone is out there to remember her, that's enough to keep her going. 3:18 "Within this world, you are somewhere / Now I'll keep going as Mumei"😭
@panagis630 Жыл бұрын
I don't know, Mumei is supposed to be the Guardian of civilization, I kinda doubt that her lantern has to do with anything metaphysical. If I had to guess Mumei is using her lantern in this MV to look for humans (civilization), much like the Philosopher Diogenes did, heck even the opening lines of the song "all I remember is that I forgot" are very close to Socrates's "I know that I know nothing" saying. As for Mumei's name, as she has stated she has had many names over her lifespan that she forgot(presumably given to her by the current civilization's "inhabitants" ,names that were forgotten as the civilizations fell.), and so long as humanity exists ,so will civilization and in extension Mumei to carry on her role as its guardian. And if Mumei's lantern has anything to do with her role as the guardian of civilization is that it houses fire, that is arguably one of Humanity's most important discoveries and an essential factor for civilization to thrive.

Mumei has always been a consistently talented singer in HoloEN... but with this? She's gone over and beyond. It's like listening to someone sing about herself. The depths of her identity. What it means to be the Speaker of Civilization. It made me cry a bit - and I think, while it's an unintended emotion, it's me resonating with the emotions brought about by this song. That, combined with the animation, makes for an amazing MV. Thank you, Mumei. Thank you for reminding me why a departed friend of mine considered you as his oshi. Never stop being amazing. 🤎🤎🤎

I don't understand why men need to clarify how old they are before sharing that they felt the emotion sadness. You can be 97, 22, 36, it's okay to cry man. Your body has the capability to have emotions for a reason. We're social creatures. It shows we are vulnerable and might need help to others. It's just weird. Hey I'm a 29 year old man, am I allowed to smile?

And the tears come into my eyes because of it's beautiful tender lyrics for each of us. mumei, TKN, i really thank you for delivering such a amazing song.

Every so often, the girls come out with a song that is genuinely something really very special, and this is Mumei's. Sweet, sad, and yet somehow still hopeful. What a wonderful song
This is probably the first HoloEn song that made me cry during my first listen. The pandemic and the subsequent lockdown has made a toll on my mental health. It was the worst headspace I've been in. And that's when CouncilRys or I should say, Promise debuted. They genuinely have saved me from the worst hole I've been in and since then, I've been trying to find who I am and my purpose. This song reminded me of why I started. My true self is still out there and I'm going to find it. Thank you Mumei.

Decided to try out music in the VTubing community, saw Mumei thinking "I didn't know she did music". Didn't know hololive members all sang. It probably doesn't mean much, but This is Truly Beautiful, & Genuinely Soul Touching. The Singing, Composition, the Art and Illustration. An Ironically Resplendent and Radiant feeling of Hope is felt. To be born in a world so full of Darkness & Cruelty. Looking for someone or something, a purpose or a person, to truly connect with feels bleak, even impossible. You could spend forever only hoping to find a glimpse or a remnant of what makes you feel truly alive. You cannot control the people around you, the environment you have to start growing in and get through, the circumstances that affect & can determine most of your life. How the void in oneself that constantly eats away at you, how long it stays, how much it takes and tolls your mind and body. Yet somehow when you are faced with this strife we experience all throughout life, we grow. A spark of joy in knowing the lives you can affect along the way. The smiles you can bring, the tears you can shed, the burdens you can share. No matter how small you feel in a world as huge as we live in. Maybe names are forgotten, but memories are shared, your name and face can be forgotten but does that mean you did not live life? No, the lives we've touched, the light we've shed, the places we've nurtured and built, everything will go on. To know a face, or a name, to have met or not. To find happiness in knowing you've shed a light for others to see its shine, feel its warmth and experience its awe and inspiration is a wondrous feeling. That in your pursuit of purpose, meaning, or a connection to or with others, that somehow you are what someone else was looking for and hoping to find. It's Magic. For those who read this, I Thank you for your time, Sorry I got carried away. I try to avoid commenting & writing things especially like this. I didn't want to waste my time alive not saying how I feel. I wish you the best, and for Hope to have found their way to you. Thank You to everyone that worked on this song as well, it helps a lot when you come together to make something as inspiring as this for others to see and hear. TKN-Tokkun, Mumei, and Otori. 💛
