here is a summary of what this vid says is gud, mine a few blocks at start to protect u, mine iron, craft tools, do the forward tilt, edge guard with down tilt, recovery busted, to high edge guard, use blocks to build up then forward aerial. u can also hit ur enemy off early, to give the opportunity to mine blocks.

Here’s my prediction: When Steve is winning, he’s going to keep winning. But when he’s at the disadvantage, it’s going to be very difficult to come back. This is due to that he needs to take time to mine and craft, becoming low tier if he can’t find these opportunities. If his opponent can keep pressuring him consistently, it’s going to be a bad matchup.

Steve is absurdly good in specific areas. If you're getting juggled, you can just place block or anvil to protect yourself. Then he seems amazing at everything related to the ledge, including recovering since he can place block to regain his jumps and then elytra as well. Place block plus downtilt lets you use the falling fire effect offstage or anywhere in the air, also I wonder if you can place block and grab while in the air. If that works imagine grabbing someone offstage and forward throwing them to an early death since you could use it closer to the blastzone. I think he's for sure going to be a complex character that allows a lot of creativity.

It almost seems hysterical to think of Steve being a legit character in competitive play, and yet it does seem like Steve is almost like the "Dan" of the roster. Coming off as a complete joke character and yet someone who could be greatly underestimated when left in the right hands. The biggest determiners for Steve viability in competive play in my eyes will be: .Limits on Block(Ex: Can you literally block the ledge, normal getup,etc with blocks?) .Hitstun Differences on Weapon Class .Base Stats .Mining Drops on Legal Stages(EX:Imagine if Kalos had a better chance for diamonds, or Lylat for Iron).

Seems like diamonds and gold are consistent on all the surfaces and you mine iron surfaces slower than stone, dirt, or wood. Meaning on stages like lylat, you would get similar amounts of iron like in other stages, but there wouldn't be as much opportunity to get the basic materials for building and tnt.

Corey Bloxham I mean, the elytra wings are confirmed to be infinite, so you could just fly to the other side of the arena if someone rushes you and keep repeating until you get a decent amount materials. Steve is gonna be a Top Tier, possibly new best character, but only on Pro level. As for Quickplay its just gonna depend on rushing him before he can get materials and unlock all the broken moves, just like Hero except Steve actually has a decent neutral.

Remember there are limits of where you can place blocks depending on how near the edge you are. We’ve only seen the barrier on the top and the sides, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was impossible for Steve to build when way down near the bottom.

I legitimately think that Steve won't have an insanely hard time with rush down compared to other camping characters because he doesn't depend on projectile setups. Even with a wood sword he can still do what he always does (just not as good) with better materials. By just putting them into disadvantage you can use neutral b and get a solid amount of materials because neutral b gathers incredibly fast and has good frame data.

you forgot to mention the minecart. you could launch a minecart offstage to catch recoveries that go in a very \ type of direction, or to snipe someone. its basically a throwable bury, and i think it will be effective on characters like lucina, luigi, and shulk.

Placing blocks off stage to walk off and edge guard with smash attacks is going to be crazy. I just can't stop thinking about nutty mine cart set ups. Building a block and then ramming a mine cart into it so it carries them off for a ledge trap. If I'm not mistaken, it can carry TNT, meaning you could place TNT before the set up and launch a mine cart off with it. Fatality mentioned using blocks to extend hit boxes, which could also make for strong ledge traps. I think the cart is going to be criminally underated personally.

I agree that it’s going to absolutely depend on how the blocks etc interact with other characters. The only issue I see that could severely limit Steve is the meta of the game. For the most part, this game is fairly defensive. There’s a lot of cheese and usually avoiding the cheese is the best way to play. This means characters who are fairly fast, and have consistent approach options, and good options to get away tend to do the best. Steve seems slow… with such a diverse cast, it’s going to be hard for him to escape from so many characters. Sonic, Fox, Falcon, Pikachu, Palu and the list goes on. I think that’s really going to hurt him, but we don’t really know until we find out more specifically how his moves interact with other characters. I’m hesitant to say he’ll be good, but I think he’ll be very not trash. lol

Nobody is talking about how the minecart does more damage the faster it goes (like gyro). Doubles with mario using flood could be pretty deadly/funny.

Steve looks so interesting... His advantage state is AMAZING, but his disadvantage... sure, you can use Anvil or Blocks to stall your fall when getting juggled, but if he's completely out of materials... Thing is, even without materials, Steve is a solid ground fighter. D-tilt and D-smash don't need materials, and d-smash probably will put opponents into tech situations or directly at the ledge, buying him time to dig. Same for up-smash, and he could still build the "PK fire wall" (which doesn't need to connect with an enemy to create the flames) then just grab standing opponents at the other side. I'm more interested in TNT as an edgeguard option. That's gonna be the bane for Roy, for example, since his recovery is fire-based. PK Rocket could also be nullified by TNT. And basically every recovery with a hitbox above the character is screwed by this move. Going the extra mile for the disrespect. For Chrom, Ike and Cloud, just place it at the ledge, they will hit it anyways. They will have to buff a ton of recoveries for Steve not to be hella broken, all things considered.

We may have missed one of his more advanced Two-Frames/Ledge traps. U-Smash can be a very situational two-frame if the Steve is fast enough. Sakurai has shown that that Steve is, "on the ground," if he uses Block in the air. Hence, he was able to use D-Smash for off-stage attacks. This could mean that you could drop from ledge, Block, and then use Magma. Even if you fall again, you should be able to burn enough Blocks to recover. This forces yet another potential ledge-coverage, since landing on-ledge is impossible. The person would be stuck in the multihit, and you could punish accordingly. D-Tilt may even string, depending on the length of Magma's active frames. This relies on both hitting it early enough and returning to stage. I think that TNT + Pressure Plate would do perfectly for covering landing on platform, as you noted before.

Imagine putting down a block on the stage 1 square away from the ledge, as your opponent is grabbing the ledge, and then you stand in that space between the block and the ledge. If you up-smash, magma will appear above Steve and it lasts a long time (and you can spam it). If your opponent ledge jumps, they will jump into the magma. Provided they are tall enough, if your opponent rolls, they will roll straight into the block you placed on stage, stand up, and touch the magma on frame 1, taking damage. Again, if they are tall enough and they use an edge attack, they will probably hit Steve, but once their invulnerability runs out, they will touch the magma and take damage. Steve is short too, so the magma block isn't placed that high up; it will probably hit most characters other than the shortest few. The only thing the opponent could really do to counter this is wait it out on the ledge for the block to disappear, but in those cases, you can easily predict/punish a roll, or drop a down air anvil on them while they're waiting on the ledge. Unless you're a character like ZSS that could hop over the magma itself, it's busted.

He may have the same problem as Min Min. Good against campers, but super bad against rush down type characters. And based on my experience with Min Min, I realized that most of the oppenents we fight against in QP are rush down characters...

I think that he is going to have a lot of combos. I say this because his up tilt/ up air seem really good for juggling opponents and he and he has a good combo throw in dthrow. Even though his grab seems slow i think it will be good because he has everything for a grab. game. kill throws, combos throws and low angle throws.this shows how his advantage will be some of the best in the game. Cart, blocks are cool
