Building ventilation is one of the most crucial factors in the design and construction of any building of any size. It is crucial to consider building ventilation whether its a small outdoor studio or a whole house or even an office building.
I am using a Mechanical ventilation and heat recovery unit that will remove the wet stale air from the bathrooms and other wet areas recover the heat and mix that with a constant supply of fresh air, the all in one unit that we are using is energy efficient has a heat pump built in that will heat the hot water tank and then once that is taken care of the excess energy will be able to heat or cool the incoming air, this building is air tight and highly insulated and the unit may be all we need to heat the property even in cold outdoor temperatures

Having that 90° bend on the main run immediately before the manifold is poor design and should have been avoided

In the Skill Builder Capel 1 episode you talked of running gas pipe up to the garden room. I assumed the main reason behind that was heating the pool? Now you are saying you’ll never have gas there. Even at current prices I’d have thought gas heating would be cheaper, unless you have plans for a large amount of solar? Also looks like the mezzanine sleeping area has been ditched. Look forward to seeing more on this build.

I decided long ago to ditch the Gas Idea, instead I have an amazingly well insulated concrete pool shell, an over insulated structure and I have also researched all manor of heating and ventilation solutions that will do the work in an energy efficient manor, I will be doing a video all about this as we fire everything up in a few months!!

Very interesting video. Nice to learn something different and to know about this stuff in case you ever come across it. I was once asked to go and repair the "fan" in the bathroom and it turned out to be mvhr. I had to spend some time learning about it while on site. It's very interesting and makes a lot of sense to recycle the heat

Robin drawback with this approach is the underside of the ducting is in contact with the uninsulated subfloor floor so you will have heat losses to ground

Hi Robin. Can you explain how this system gets rid of moisture when heat is recovered from moist air? Great video as usual.

How would you clean out all the dust & grime out of the underfloor pipes after 30 years or so...? 🤔
@ukconstruction
@ukconstruction Жыл бұрын
They are large pipes so you could easily push a vacuum hose through them, it's a good question too, if they are constantly blowing or sucking then technically they should stay pretty clean??? Let's hope!!

Do the fresh air supply vents work better in the floor than in the ceiling like is typical? seems like a good idea I've only fitted it once and we had everything in the ceiling
@ukconstruction
@ukconstruction Жыл бұрын
I reckon that it would be better in the floor especially when it is heating the air in the winter, I will let you know in about 3 months!!!

The roof space is a vaulted cold roof design, and we designed the floor build up to accommodate the ducting

The funny thing is that if you build over a certain square meterage then the structure has to comply with all the same building regs as a proper dwelling... even though you could never class it as a dwelling!!!

@@ukconstruction That’s red tape for you. The solar should run the MVHR system. I want to build small affordable homes the same way. Thank you for the valuable insight.

It’s looking really good Robin I would love to know when everything is finished including the pool area as well how much electricity it will be using on a daily basis as electric is so expensive at the moment best to be moving swiftly towards a solution on what solar etc you can use instead of the grid many thanks
