Waarom ik alles in het Engels doe?
Omdat ik video's kijk van Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers én heel veel Engelstaligen die allemaal Engels lullen en ook bootjesmensen / liveaboards zijn. Want alleen dan kan je je ervaring wereldwijd delen. En wat blijkt? Mijn video's worden in 127 landen bekeken (zie S03/E01 voor de lijst). Veel van mijn kijkers en abonnees zijn Engelstaligen die mijn video's helemaal top vinden, omdat ze óf familie hebben uit Nederland, of hier jaren geleden zijn geboren en door omstandigheden nu elders op de wereld wonen. En, dat ik dan Engels spreek met een accentje (net als de Fransen, Denen, Noren, Spanjaarden, Portugezen, Duitsers overigens) dan interesseert hen dat geen reet.
Het kostte ons 4 uur om op deze speciale dag met de volgboot door de Amsterdamse grachten te varen en toch hebben we niet alles gezien wat er gaande was. Wil je weten wat er is gebeurd? Ga dan mee met deze tour.
Weet je dat Nederlandse ondertiteling aan kan zetten? Doorgaans zo'n 4 uur nadat de video is gepubliceerd. Klik op de video, en kies uit de iconen die rechtsonder verschijnen dan voor [ondertiteling] en kies daar voor Nederlands. Dan wordt zelfs mijn steenkolen Engels (knap he van die jongens en meisjes KZbin) vertaald naar Nederlandsch.

No, the federal aviation authorities think that an 80 year old guy shouldn’t be flying solo across the pond any more. The reality is that ever since I retired, I rely on my younger and very capable Icelandair pilots to get me to my destinations safely. It’s back to Iceland for a few days in May, then off to Scotland for a few weeks of R&R to visit family, hiking and just kicking back in the West Highlands and the Isle of Skye. Later this summer I’ll make my way to the Netherlands by boat (ferry from Seydisfjordur to Hirtshals) and then by train to Amsterdam. I think I know where you moor Lady Liselot, so perhaps we can meet up for coffee, and some Dutch pastries. All the best! Dan

I last visited Amsterdam in 1982, and would love to come again. But the overwhelming question I have from this tour was how do people taking that much liquid intake dispose of the results? A lot of boats with no visible restrooms 🙂

Good question Brian. If we took some sample of the water in the canals one day later I guess we could have found traces of several beers. Almost every boat had a box-cover-thing (sometimes visible, sometimes in the foredeck) where the girls could sit for as moment. The boys did not seem to bother to show their belongings to the rest of the world, but from what I saw, nothing to become jealous about. The city Amsterdam even had a map online with mobile (public) toilets. The ones you see at construction spots.

ik heb een vraagje Henk-Jan ik zie veel boten die voor anker liggen dat zij een of twee touwen aan hun anken hebben een naar stuurboord zijde en een naar bakboord zijde waar dienen die voor alvast mijn dank voor je antwoord

In deze video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmKmmIduaL58btU) zie je dat ik één lijntje gebruik. Het principe is als volgt: Met een goed Engels woord noemen we die constructie een 'snubber'. De een maakt de lijn met een haak vast aan de ankerketting, en ik knoop beide touwtjes er gewoon om heen. Dat doe je om de ankerlier te beschermen tegen het trekken van de boot aan de ankerketting. Lady Liselot weegt 35 ton. Als het hard waait en ik lig voor anker, duwt de wind haar naar achter en komt de ketting onder spanning te staan. Wind en golven veroorzaken dan een behoorlijke trekkracht. Als je geen snubber gebruikt, komen al die krachten op de ankerlier te staan, want daaroverheen zit de ankerketting. Dus om die trekkrachten daar weg te halen, zorgt de snubber er voor dat de krachten op de lijnen komen en niet op de ketting. Je maakt een deel van de lijnen vast aan je bolders, het andere deel aan de ankerketting (slimme knoopjes voor) en laat de ketting vieren tot dat die slap hangt en de lijnen strak. En op die manier bescherm je de ankerlier tegen de trekkrachten.

Het feit dat ik tot nu toe alleen in al mijn filmpjes verscheen betekent niet dat ik in m'n uppie was. hahaha Ik woon alleen en vaar veel alleen, en 'wij' vinden dan heerlijk zo, maar bedankt voor het feit dat je bezorgt was over dat deel van mijn gemoedstoestand. Die 10k subscribers had ik gehoopt een paar maanden later. Het wordt een paar jaar later, zo te zien. Vandaar dat ik dat filmpje maar offline heb gehaald. hahaha
