These cars provided proof of concept for Ford before they went all in with the Taurus which was even more of a radical design. The engine was hardly all new, just a revised straight six from the Foxbodies with two cylinders chopped off. They later got the vulcan V6 but never did get the OHC "Pinto" engine they were supposed to
