My lovely blue 20yr old NB lives here in a cozy garage in Western Australia and there isn't any rust anywhere on the shell. Thank god for warm climates and no salt on the roads.

Yes it's the salt that kills them Graeme :)

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I did a similar repair on my Nissan 200SX, lots of layers but now know what to expect when I do the sills on my son's MX5 track car. Top job and again, thanks for sharing

What thickness steel do you use for the rear wings? We have 2 Mk1's, one needs a little welding to get it through the MOT, the other we are thinking of stripping right down and getting chemically dipped as it's in a bad way.
@yorkshirecarrestoration2 жыл бұрын
the rear arch panels are prefabricated as you will see in the next video but the inners sill sections we have repaired in this video are 1mm and 1.2mm in thickness :)

Yet another other great MX5 tutorial with some questions! 1) Are there still drip holes in the bottom of the sills to let the condensation out. 2) The inner vertical upright repair which was done with a complete plain piece off sheet metal with no access holes, how do you get cavity wax behind it and in front of it and behind the new inner sill covering it? Or is this a say 5-year repair rather than a full expensive restoration that is not justified as if you go looking for further problems you will find them, and the costs will skyrocket.
@yorkshirecarrestoration2 жыл бұрын
Yes moisture vents through those holes, we also drill our own holes to vent more after we have completed the job. the cavity wax can be done through the grommet in the inner arch as it offers a lot of access, but again after repair we drill holes and inject the anti corrosive coatings after the job is done then insert rubber grommets.

Hello, Can you tell me what make the folder is on your bench. Thanks

Hi David , the folder is just a generic one from ebay i think they still sell them but you can buy cheaper ones that attach to a vice and work very well :)

Do you ever regret taking on a MOT repair? For instance its only a bit more money for the customer to use replacement panels and replace it back to as factory and saves you a lot of labor/headache?
@yorkshirecarrestoration2 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank. Replacement panels can be purchased for these jobs and you will see in the next video we do use a panel that replaces the wheel arch and outer sill section but most of the time these repairs stretch bigger than the replacements that you can buy meaning you would have to fab your own anyway. Our videos are here to show you how to replace metal when panels aren't available.
@yorkshirecarrestoration2 жыл бұрын
Also the inner wheel arch sections and under floor section you will see in the next video aren't available as replacement panels :)

Without some internal rust treatment, like dinatrol injection, or something similar, it will just rust away again. Good welding job though.
