Nice tips! Plug leads are known to fail over time on the MX-5... :) I should also add, 1mm gap is good for a stock car, but boosted cars tend to work better with around 0.6mm gap.

Great vid sir. When I replaced mine, I also found some oil on the spark plug nearest the front. It's very common for the cam cover gasket to fail around that pot so I changed the gasket, which prevented further leaking

Plugs should be changed at least once a year. Can’t image that they will get really stuck in such a short period of time so I don’t use grease. You could I guess, can’t hurt the engine

Thanks for another great video, keep them coming they are clear, easy to follow and very very useful. I changed my plugs when I got my 1995 1.8iS back to France from the UK in May. I put in NGKs which seem pretty good. I'm now wanting to change the HT ignition leads and am thinking of Jackson Racing 8mm. They seem to be around 30-40€. What do you think? I'm on a very tight budget for this car, so any advice on a good value product would be appreciated. Thanks.
@MiataMods7 жыл бұрын
Apparently the Miata manual recommends NGK plugs so you installed the right ones! I could not find the right NGK plugs in my country so I bought the Denso plugs. Anyway, about the wires or leads; The Jackson Racing 8mm ones are very good! I've read good things about them and the 8mm outer sheath is an upgrade as compared to the OEM leads so I would say go for it! Thanks for the compliment btw :-)
@robinforrest76807 жыл бұрын
MiataMods I just checked out my copy of the UK MX5 manual. It recommends either NGK or... Denso plugs! So I guess we were both right. The old ones I replaced were Denso... I want to change my engine, transmission and diff oil soon. Any plans for a tutorial for diff and transmission? There are a few on KZbin but they're not very helpful. Im sure you would do a much better job 😉
@MiataMods7 жыл бұрын
Okay so Denso plugs are also good! Thanks for sharing that piece of information! Yes I will definitely cover those topics in the near future! Thanks for the compliment ☺️
@trippm40367 жыл бұрын
Great job as usual! glad to see you working in a real world environment. Those plugs looked okay with the exception of the oil on that first one. Was it definitely a bad plug or was it a wire cause the miss?
@MiataMods7 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure it was that oil soaked spark plug!
@Chunknannigans7 жыл бұрын
Usually when i get that lifter tick i change my oil and its good as new, try a thicker viscosity of oil. Drove my car for around 7k miles before it came back, that was after a trip to vegas and a drive to Oregon; I'm from SoCal lol.
@MiataMods7 жыл бұрын
I changed the oil 6 months ago and I went for a thicker viscosity but it didn’t really help.. o well, it doesn’t bother me.. sounds like a nice trip tho! I’ve been to California once, loved it! 👍

Yeah I suppose I'll stumble upon one eventually.. Currently looking on Ebay but I wanted one in milimeteres, most are inches. In the end it won't matter rly, just have to get one.

@looolcom7 жыл бұрын
Hey man, nice videos as usual. How come your miata ignite quickly, mine and other ones take 1 or 2 more seconds ?!!
@MiataMods7 жыл бұрын
Could be a lot of things; Spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil-pack, battery, fuel filter.. Try this: When starting the car, turn the key to the "run" position but do not start cranking the engine. Leave the key there for a 10 seconds, then turn it the rest of the way. If that stops the problem, then it's most likely that the fuel lines are just losing pressure. Which could be the fuel filter, or it could be a slightly leaky injector. Neither is an immediate worry tho. If it doesn't bother you I wouldn't worry too much.. if it does bother you, replace the parts I've mentioned earlier and see if that helps. Good luck!

@MiataMods7 жыл бұрын
Haha thanks for the kind words! I can't recommend a specific brand but just go for one that's in the medium price range. A really cheap one will brake in no-time or the calibration will be way off. A really expensive one is not worth the money if you only use it a couple of times a year. I paid around 50-60 euro's for mine so I guess that in the medium price range.
