This looks incredible. The CPU temps were surprisingly high considering its practically open air, still not alarming though. I love how the 6600 xt fits so perfect on the back half of the pc.
@mxcbuilds6633 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I agree with the temps, that's why I was abit disappointed. I'm positive it's due to the orientation of the heatsink fins. The air flow through them is now restricted by the ram sticks and the IO shield on the other side. And I assume what little air is able to pass through that is immediately sucked back into the fan...

Pro tip when doing a groove with your router use the rounded part to run against your fence since it's the same distance away from the middle of the router. The reason for this is if you use flat part one wrong movement would get you a crooked groove but if you use the rounded part you have some wiggle room before the groove goes crooked. Other than that nice project! Good job!

protip from a woodworker - use a plastic straw cut at an angle to scoop up the glue squeeze out from the inside corners once you clamp it up, then dab with a moist brush and wipe it away. no more residue, and a super clean look. James Krenov approved technique (my teacher was a student of his) :) you can also gently burnish the outside edges to get an even cleaner miter. and sometimes, you can even cut at 44.5 degrees to make sure the outer angle is perfect, though it's difficult to cut a perfect cut there without a tablesaw.

While it is decent, the biggest issue will be when it contracts and expands based on humidity, which can pull on the motherboard as the screw positions change from expansion and contraction of the wood. The moisture in wood could also potentially cause a problem with electronics. This is why wood isn't really used for PC cases. Metal doesn't absorb moisture and it's not an insulator. It does expand with temperature, but not by much, and since everything else is metal it expands pretty much the same too. Temperature shifts will also cause this moisture change, since the heat from the components will dry out the wood, making it contract.
@mxcbuilds6633 Жыл бұрын
All valid points. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but all of the cases I've built have not had issues with expansion and contraction. Sealing the wood with wax, varnish really helps reduce the changes in moisture.

RECOMMENDATION: when soldering two cable ends together, it is better to pre-tin each end, then solder them side by side to create an edge joint. NASA utilizes this method. Stranding and twisting the wires together can create air pockets which may increase the resistance value of the joint.
