this music videos means a lot to me, as i was really able to dive into my experience growing up as chinese-american! it’s rare and wonderful when you’re able to share pieces of your world, and working on this video was both challenging in trying to express a personal story in a fun way but to keep it meaningful as well. videos have been my favorite way of expressing my songs visually so far, and this one is no exception.

Sorry for your loss. My mom didn't knew my granny passed on because she's also busy at work, but she knew she had Alzheimer's. And granny had already forgot everything and everyone, mom even said "Okay, I'm gonna go to school now! I'm gonna make you crema de fruta once I come home" she said to my granny with a crying tone. My granny nodded and said "Thats my favorite!" back to her. With a bright smile. How I miss her so much.

Not sure I really want to share this since it hurts thinking about it. But when I was around 17-18 my grandma was in the hospital. However I meant to join my parents visiting her but always seemed to have friends with plans that interfered (that I picked to do over visiting). Little did I know my selfishness would cost me the chance to talk to her forever. By the next time I was able to see her she was asleep in so much pain my parents didn't want to wake her. We left grabbed food around the corner... While my grandma had passed away I was stuffing my face. Each time I try to eat at that place I can't because I think of her. Whatever you do, just don't forget those who love you and you love back. Otherwise you'll have major regrets to live with.

My mom grew up in a poor family and she barely have any food but she studied hard and got good grades but she didn’t get a job because she needed to take care of me and my brothers. She always reminds me to get good grades to get a good job but I never took it seriously. I didn’t realize how much of a jerk I was to ignore her. I can relate ti this on a personal level because even though i have grandparents i never feel like i matter to them because they live far away and my grandmother closest to me has dementia and sometimes forgets who i am, all of my friends have amazing relationships with their grandparent but, it never feels like i have grandparents. I work in an independent/assisted living facility. Please call your grandparents/parents/ elderly relatives. They don't have a lot anymore and now they can't even see their peers too often. Been in a similar situation, but with a grandma. Best advice I can say is remember the fond memories... Focus on that! Do your best to spend time with those you love and those who love you. Keep your chin up, as she has said before in other videos "you are not alone". I wholeheartedly agree with that statement.

Thanks, mxmtoon. Right now in the year we're in (2020), this song really helps me out, also because of the lyrics in the song because the title "unspoken words" reminds me of how one of my grandma had died. I only saw her 2 or 3 times in my whole entire life, and I never got much time to talk to her and get know her. Then one night, she died in her sleep. When I got the news, I felt horrible because how I never told her about my life and she never got to tell me about hers, and how we never really talked cause of my parents not giving me enough time to. The only thing I have left from her is a purse/hand bag that she gave me. I always take it everywhere to remember her even if I didn't know much about her. So thank you again mxmtoon.

I can relate to this on so many levels because, recently, my grandmother got diagnosed with cancer for the second time. She lives a long way away from us, so we didn’t see her often, but luckily her doctor is in the same town as me, so she comes over a lot now. This is strangely sad to me. I'm trans and young...my grandpa, one of the men I looked up to, refused to acknowledge it. I started to avoid him, ignoring him every chance I could. I didn't know he was learning about gender dysphoria and what it meant to be trans..until...well...it was too late.

You know after hearing this song I just became more aware of my grandparents Recently my grandpa died, but even at the funeral I didn't cry, I don't know why I didn't cry and I feel bad becuse of that then one night I had a talk with my little brother and he cried because he couldn't get to the funeral and felt bad at how he treated my grandpa before and he said that he felt so bad for not even seeing him once in a few weeks because of his sickness and he cried beside me, then a small damn broke and I shed a few tears. Ya'know he passed away so suddenly I didn't even believe it at the moment I just felt that he would always be there and seeing and realizing that 'yes he is gone' is just like a slap in the face that no one could live forever even me

This song just makes me want to cry sometimes, my grandparents decided alcohaul was more important to them than their own grandchildren, and lie to the other side of the family about being in contact with us. This also all happened on my birthday, so now I cant think of my birthday without thinking of what they did, and all the things they told me about never being able to get anywhere in life without them. This song hits close to home. When my grandfather passed away last year, about a month before this video was released, I was in college out of state. My parents called to break the news. I wasn’t there for his last moments. He was (and still is) my hero. I was very socially isolated at that time and felt so alone. I had to wait a week to reunite with my family and attend the memorial service. I broke down so many times. He was very weak in his last years and I could hardly understand what he was saying to me; he had a strong Korean accent and his Parkinson’s weakened the muscles in his mouth. It was hard to see him. I felt so disconnected from him. But I knew he loved me. He’d always pray for God to watch over me. I miss him dearly. Thank you so much, Maia. Your song helped me heal. It’s hard to write this, but please say “I love you” to your elders and let them know how much they mean to you. I love you, Grandappa. 사랑해요 할아버지💗

at around 1:04, you can hear a phone typing after she says a few lines and then at around 1:17 you can hear her erase it all, thinking because she's thinking about the text message a lot. This goes on for a few more seconds and then it stops. I just think it's a really cool and unique way of showing what's going on in the lines. you can also hear some phone call noises (I guess) showing that she decided to call or thought about calling. edit: This also happens at the end but the doesn't erase it because she finally knows that's what she feels and wants to say

My grandparents..are always a touchy subject for me. I always feel..uncomfortable talkin' bout em. Heres the reason..I dont normally share this stuff to my friends so...here it is.. My parents and my grandparents had some drama..my grandparents always blamed my parents even though they were trying to help 'em. Few weeks.or months later my grandpa passed away..for some reason I- didnt feel any regret or..anything. I- didnt seem to care..honestly.. My parents always kept me away from my grandparents..I never understood why, now I do. I don't feel comfortable near my father..I'm just..fed up with everything at this point. Life itself, my friends sometimes ( No offense if your readin this), even..school. I cant with all these expectations, its stressful for me. I can't relax since i have to take care of the dogs (I have 6) . My parents always say:`` Get off your device and go socialize more!``, I'm not a extrovert. I'm a ambivert, I hate socializing.. My parents think I'm fine, their aware of my grades though. I dunno why i need good grades, is it just to please 'em? why do I need to please 'em in the first place? Why can't I be..me? Why do I have to be identified as a...''female'' or ''girl'' to others (I'm non binary, I use they / them / she ( Or it if you prefer to use) ) I hate it. I hate it all.. Im sorry for the rant, I just needed to get my feelings out.

I always listened to this song when it was released. I felt the emotions of this song even if I don’t relate to it. Last night, I just got the news that my grandmother left us already. We weren’t really that close but we would visit them every year during Christmas and have dinner together. Our uncles and aunts would always tell us to give them a call at least once a week, and I never did. I regret everything so much because I realized that I always had the opportunity to call them but I didn’t because I was very shy. If it wasn’t for COVID she would still be here. She would always have a smile on her face when we visit them. I feel really bad because I’m not really close to my dad’s side and I don’t even know anymore. I can’t even attend her funeral because minors aren’t allowed. I just can’t bear with the fact that she’s gone forever and that I’m never seeing her again. All I’m trying to say to everyone who sees this comment is to please call your grandparents, any of your loved ones really, and tell them that you love them because you never know when it is too late.

This really makes me cry. I lost my grandma when i was 10 and didnt really grasp the emotion and feeling of loss, i was pretty much not affected( we live in diff countries and meet once a year). Now im 15 and in the dark of the night i look at her photo on the table and i cry and apologize over and over again for pushing her away and never being there, now i truly regret pushing her away. I also realised i was doing the same to my grandpa but i learnt my lesson and hopefully we grow closer... Thank you for this song :)

my grandma passed away six days ago, she lost her battle to lung cancer, seeing her on that hospital bed was the most painful thing i've ever experienced, she was like my mom, she was always there to calm me down and give me strenght. I can safely say i was there too, i told her i loved her everytime que were together, but now she's gone and it hurts like hell, two weeks ago she was talking and playing games on her phone with me, it's like she disappeared. I miss her so much
