couple big secrets to this get missed by jumping the gun.. assumed I could pull the sdcard on the reboot, didn't appear to be the case, but maybe it would work as normally does.. I saw the boot into OS take a bit longer with it in.. maybe it's because that sdcard is huge. Thank you for pointing out to pick wifi & just once.. got myself locked out of setup 3x by not picking [just once] & [wifi]. in always mode it never let me put in a wifi password or skip the process.. oddly, it lets you skip the process when you pick wifi & just once. That part made me really happy. I successfully setup an IIOT box with only 4 gig of memory & the s805 chip. Took a lot longer for the google play store to connect than it did with the the original 4.4.2 firmware, but the picture appears far better on the tv than it was on 4.4.2.

My biggest problem was understanding how to download the firmware at first because you did not go into detail and zoomed by that part. Once I was able to do that I went through the process following the instructions. I even got to the part where it said to reboot. I did notice that several error scrolled up before the upgrade said "Done". End result, it did not reboot, and now I believe the box is unusable. I paid about $140 for the box loaded with Kodi and a build; it also included Arabic programming channels that lasted for about a year. Now that I know a bit more about these android tv boxes I recommended consumers just by a new box. You can still get new boxes under $30 that come with 7.1 OS which are able to run all the new stuff out there. I'm seeing some on line that appear to come with a usb mini keyboard as well, all inclusive. Thanks for you video it was truly helpful and well presented. It was just my luck that the firmware did not work on my MXq box.

Just came across this video. First thanks for the bang on tutorial the only problem I had which I sorted quite quick was the lollipop os file wouldn't show on SD card which was a 4gb card. So I put it on a 16gb usb thumb stick put it in usb one and repeated the process with success thanks again

Tried about a dozen different files but this is the only one which worked!!!!! many many thanks -- just one remark .. my recovery filename had (2) in it which prevented it running .. renamed it recovery.img and it worked.

these boxes are slow, give it time to load and it will work. If its been loading for an hour then I guess it does not work. PS: Your sd card speed also matters

Many thanks for your help which has allowed me to update my old MXQ droid player from 4.4.2 to 5.11 For some reason the SD card would not allow me to read the zip file but placing it on a separate USB stick and changing the settings at the install changed worked fine. I had search the net for sometime but yours was far and away the best explanation of how to update this s type of box. I still have one or two odd things to sort out such as the remote has ceased working but otherwise all is fine. Thanks again.

@@brantizsak7695 try this. Shut the box down, and if you have anything plugged into any of the USB ports, unplug anything that was plugged into USB/sd ports. Once all the ports are empty, unplug the power adapter from the wall for at least 30 to 60 seconds. Then with nothing plugged into the USB/sd ports, plug the adapter back in the wall ans boot it back up. See if it fixed the wifi. I know if sounds crazy, but it has worked for people.

installed on a mxv s805 it has a on/off button on top, it starts and can see the boot screen but i have to hold the on button. but keeps rebooting. edit so I reset my box and reinstalled this rom. then held the power until it booted, took a while. so now ///i am going to open this mxv and solder the power button so it is always on.

I just tried a different recovery and now my box is trying to load teamwiz. Only problem now is it loads the teamwiz screen and then the box shuts my tv off. And it won't power back on til I unplug the HDMI cable from the back of the box. Have you ever seen this before? If so, how do I fix it?

hello there i managed to upgrade to lollipop on my mx pro s805 box and got to the first screen where you choose language and click yellow button. when it goes onto the next page to search for wifi there are no networks showing and it says i need to turn wifi on to search for networks...i cannot do that because the box is still in standby mode! can you help please?

Everything went nice and smoothly, after finished my update I realised there is no WIFI signal at all. My MXQ remote become useless. This updates makes my box to a mobile phone. Thats weird. Is there any way I can go back ?

Are you able to upload the s805 5.1.1 firmware to another download site. I can see the mxq project site is down. I have flashed a 4.4.2 K1 firmware to my mxq box. It is working but I am unable to use certain apps i.e. IPTV ect. I have had a good look for the past week to find a download that is similar but can't find anything. Even searching for abduls lollipop firmware but I'm really struggling. It offers a download but the source has been removed.I have downloaded other IMG files that advise it's for the mxq but when running through twrp they don't show unless I need to use win32Disk to flash to my SD card. Please help thanks scott

I didn't get this, i followed exact instructions & once i went to the tv, tv is showing red words on top with options under in blue list style of boot system, apply update from ADB, factory reset, & etc.. my remote also wont let me click any of the options only scroll through.. not really sure whats going on or how to fix it.. so disappointed :(

For those who can't seem to get the remote control working or u might find urself not being able to use most of the buttons like home or back button. Download the stock 4.4.2 firmware open zip and and open the other zip in there and find remote.conf from system/etc and extract copy and paste ur boxe's etc folder. Restart and u should be good to go

Hi, I installed this update and its always repeat the welcome and select language, after connecting to wifi comes back to this screen. and I cannot goto recovery mode hardware rest is now also not working. all i see is welcome screen select languange choose wifi and come back to same step. there is only always red light on the tvbox. Amlogic S805, Sumavision BOX. looking for help. thanks.

Great video! I got it to work first time round. I was wondering though if there is a fix for the shutdown function? I know it's a known bug for this ROM, but since it was released over a year ago maybe something can fix it. Also I read that the Power On function of the IR remote is in the bootloader (not the remote.conf). Does this mean that, even when the blue light (power down) function is fixed, that you can't power on the mediabox with the IR remote (since this rom uses a custom bootloader)? Thanks again :)

Everytime I pop in the SD card and push the reset down when I plug in the power I keep getting a NO COMMAND line with an Android robot lying down. Do I not have the correct files on the card? I left the Lollipop folder zipped and copied the recovery file just as it was shown in the video. I am using an MXQ 4K black box.

this is not for the MXQ 4K, you will have a rockchip or S905 SOC - this is for the S805 SOC

There are additional new files on linked you provided. My box stuck on the first logo "amlogic s805"... Won't boot TWRP, or even Android. It boots to Android recovery if I remove the SD card, and or remove recovery.img file. If I attempt to load Abdul's program through Android recovery>SD it doesn't work obviously. Any idea why red screen doesn't show up?

Erm, if you mean dual boot LibreELEC then yeah needs left in unless you install to internal - You've commented on the lollipop then no, once lolipop installed it can be removed
