I've played them all. If you haven't experienced the MXR yet, I can only explain it in one word...lush. It just has a warmth and natural feel to it...and it doesn't add noise to your signal chain the way most others do.

You can’t really compare these 2 this way. The dimension C uses two modulated delayed signals alongside a dry signal. These delayed signals are out of phase with each other so as not to create a “swirling” effect. This circuitry gives the Dimension chorus effect a more subtle, ‘motionless’ tone. It’s sounds “different”to the MXR by design.
@TheDmonet4 жыл бұрын
So the Dimension C is more like a "detune" effect than a modulation I guess?
@awothers724 жыл бұрын
@@TheDmonet The MXR has the original signal, and a modulated one that swings in and out. So if you call that a detune, then it’s the MXR you’re describing.
@arighani99892 жыл бұрын

@awothers722 жыл бұрын
@@TheDmonet it uses two modulated delayed signals alongside a dry signal. These delayed signals are out of phase with each other. Dimension for me, though I'm a keyboard player and when I want warbly vibrato I use an LFO or two. The dimension is crystal clear and places the source in a sound stage, which is what I love. It sounds sensational on an OBXa.

This was a great video! I love the MXR ! I was amazed how incredible it sounded definitely more versatile than the Dimension C but in my honest opinion I love the Dimension C more. Both great , the Dimension C just has this sparkle & shimmeryness to it that I feel like any other Chorus Pedal can’t achieve. MXR sounded great too, just prefer the DC2w for my needs.

Thank you so much for this video. I've had the MXR Stereo Chorus for over 15 years now. I love it of course, but I was considering purchasing the DC-2w - not to replace it, but just to add another flavor. Now I hear that it doesn't really add anything that the MXR can't do. I love the Width knob on the MXR too - with a sweep of the knob you can go from thick mono chorus, to super wide stereo, and everything in between. Plus the EQ section is a great feature that many Chorus pedals don't have, and the little switch next to the EQ makes it so that the chorus only affects the high frequencies and leaves your low end intact. Incredible pedal. I hope MXR never stop making it!

Yes, absolutely this! I feel the MXR was set in more of the extreme settings. If you like that then, the MXR is your pedal since the Boss is a more subtle chorus. Someone said recently that the DC-2w is a chorus pedal for those that don't really like chorus as it won't make you sea sick.

They are both great. I am getting the DC2W for a small acoustic pedalboard. If you want Super Lush & Phenomenal Chorus - get the F.T.T. Tri-Avatar Multidimensional Chorus - it is Unreal. I know the Dimension is held in high regard but the MXR smokes it. In some ways it's not a fair comparison due to the amount of control on the MXR but I always thought it was a strange design on the Boss.

The Wampler Terraform comes in the mail tommrow and also has a Dimension setting. 😁

So tired of these Dimension C vs Chorus debates. The Boss DC2W is not a “Chorus” pedal -it’s a “Dimension” pedal. The apt pedal comp to the MXR is the CE2W -an actual Chorus pedal. I don’t know why people keep calling the DC a Chorus. It’s a different effect. If you use a CE-1 style Chorus from a CE2W with a DC 2W in stereo , you will get the closest approximation to the Roland JC 120-as the DC2W gives you that delay line split that creates a kind of 3D spectrum you get from a JC. Kind of a Roland high point of sonic invention along with the Space Echo. . It’s a unique effect used on countless records with the Dimension D. A rack unit that does a subtle widening that dare I say is very euphoric. Either way do the comp with a CE2W for the MXR. These in essence are different effects.

@@sonar1357 Looks like my reply was deleted? Maybe because I included an address to a Reddit page titled "The 3 Main Types of "Stereo Chorus" (And Why Only One Is the Real Thing)"? Anyway yes you are right. The MXR creates "pseudo stereo" by sending out a 180° inverted signal, which sounds very cool when heard through stereo speakers, but does indeed lose all chorus effect when summed to mono. I don't know if that's such a bad thing, though. Stereo has to be created with *some* sort of disparity between otherwise identical signals - otherwise it wouldn't be stereo! I'll continue my search for a stereo chorus pedal. Strymon Deco is on the horizon.

Well, the 134 is The One. Wouldnt part with it. Total tone monster. Does the whole Dimension D thing when running in stereo. Without it I would run Wet Dry. It can be more subtle than the Boss while adding a wider stereo field. On its own it is a great recording/eq tool. Capable of Phaser and light Flanging as well.
