Just moved in to Perth WA from UK and SAND is everywhere. Deep rutty sand!!! But he is so right,,,practice and get the time in. Second trip in the sand today and his advice has helped big time. I just need more time in the sand to get confident!!!

My first time riding was in deep sand. I was terrified. A buddy gave me some simple advice. Hug the tank with your legs. I started trusting myself and relaxing, giving throttle when I felt like I shouldn't and all was well. That bike likes to slip from under you in deep sand. The more gas the quicker you can catch traction and momentum is your bff here.

After 3 crashes last weekend in sand, I wish I watched this first! In my teens and 20s, it was easy.

I would like to see a video dedicated to tackling steep descents in deep sand.
@tayloranderson13726 жыл бұрын
AussieBoss1337 Lean back, but keep your chin parallel with your bars still, and grip tight with your legs. Always have give it a little throw as you go down hill to keep you front light
@utahdesertrider18066 жыл бұрын
Exactly! It’s a difficult task. But really you have no choice but to grip it and rip it. I got caught riding cautiously in the sand on many steep downhills on Saturday. I went over the bars. Super soft stuff. I really don’t know what the answer is. It totally got in my head, next thing u know I was riding like shit. Just trying not to crash

That track looks fun! Gotta love sand

Not to argue, but if you watch arguably the best two sand riders in the world right now (Tomac and Herlings), they both hang off the back of the bike a lot. Same goes for Anderson, they all ride a bit further back than what is quote "recommended". Of course nobody else is one of those guys, so central is probably what works best for your average mx junky.

Dropping the forks in the triple clamps to flush, will make a world of difference as will a steering damper.

Brilliant, thank you. Off to WA in less than two weeks to live from UK, can't wait. Not looking forward to the sand though!!!!! LOL.

I just got a cr125, haven't rode in 15 years and never in sugar sand. The first place I went is a MX track in Florida so of course deep sugar sand. Its a BITCH!! You have to go fast and hold on tight for a ride like a bull! Had bike for 2 months and already cleared the main jump on beginners track! : ) And can hold up a slow wheelie for about 4 seconds! Doing GREAT!Then I looked at the amateur track! Amateur as in they still fly 60 feet in the air and do tail whips! One guy rode a slow wheelie on to the track and his first jump did a huge tail whip! LMAO! So much for me doing great! :( Punta Gorda Tracks and Trails is GREAT but beware 2 wheel guys its DEEP SUGAR SAND! And the trail are the same. BEWARE!! Only good thing about sugar sand is its soft when you wreck. And you will wreck if you don't know about sugar sand trust me! Its a whole nother world!!

This is great for going fast, but what about when you can't risk a crash and need to go slow. How should we handle slow riding in really powdery dry soft sand, going slowly please?
@MrChocalatestarfish6 жыл бұрын
Andy Bush going slow in sand never works the bike grabs all the ruts when you go slow what I would recommend is doing exactly what the video said but not do it as fast just always keep a little throttle on so the front doesn't drive and will sort of float or push through the sand
@andyrbush6 жыл бұрын
I am going a bit faster and it does work thank you
@spiritsofmetal11 жыл бұрын
I have trouble keeping the throttle open on the straights because I end up going too fast! I am beginner level and new to sand. I presume I should be using just part throttle?
@mimklive11 жыл бұрын
There is only one way to win a race, going fast.

@makyahkreis9657 жыл бұрын
It REALLY is when you have been riding for a while without a break and you wrist starts to ache from twisting the throttle, squeezing the grips, using front brake and clutch. If it gets really bad you loose control in your wrist and usually let go of the bars and fall off.
@brettcrochiere95377 жыл бұрын
It happens when riding a bike hard. Too much blood goes into your arms than can come out, and you can't squeeze with your hands anymore/use any of your arm muscles

You stand complete wrong on your pegs... you have to stand with your feetballs... your ankle can move more... footwork is the goal to go fast in bumpy tracks! No hate😏
