I have been living on Mactan Island for 10 yrs. I would like say a few things. If you come here, respect locals and their culture. Don't expect to find western lifestyle in a Asian country. You must understand that most every body is poor by western standards. ($10 USD a day is good money to most people) A woman working at a stall in the market $3 for 10hr day. Also, by law you must help support your spouses family. My wife sees too that. Your life here will not be like at home. For me, I have found a home and a family. This a wonderful place, be grateful for it's gifts.

Once again you did not include transportation, which could be a significant amount depending on one’s preference. Living like a local and taking the jeepney would be very cheap, but if you were to get a car that’s at least an additional $300-400 per month. And what about traveling and taking trips? I’m not talking about a grand vacation, just taking a trip to a neighboring island could set you back an extra couple hundred dollars. The simple minimalist yet comfortable lifestyle that you live is a testament that someone from the west can live on about $1,000 per month. But as you said not everyone shares the same lifestyle as you do, and I’m just pointing out things that people who want to move to the Philippines need to consider. Thank you for a very informative video.

If you are living in the Philippines on a budget of $1000 a month, your lifestyle will be very lean. You will not be able to rent a car. At best you can rent a scooter. You will have to take jeepneys, trikes and habal-habals most everywhere. As for taking trips? Out of town trips will be rare.

@@GallivantingKendallI never said you live on this budget as you made it clear this is not about your personal expenses. I just wanted to point out something you missed that should be included in their budget as it is equally important as the items you mentioned.

Thanks for the info on the dog drinking water. I am flying to Cebu in 9 days with 2 dogs and I was going to just give them tap water.

Did you add monthly Visa extentions?
@GallivantingKendall

I'm not familiar with any new visa requirements. When I had a tourist visa, you only had to expend every 6 months. I've had an SRRV since 2022 and that cost is about $10 a year. People's visa situations can all be different so, no, I did not figure in any monthly visa costs.

And how the local’s do?
@GallivantingKendall

It's not an insult. Living like a local means living without many of the conveniences, food items and technology that we have in America. There are too many to list here. Some of those comforts are available here but, most are not. Life in the Philippines and very different than life in America and Western countries. That is the point I am communicating to Americans and Westerners in general.
