Very good build. One small point, RLM 66was only used in the cockpit. In the 262, the inside of the fuselage was unpainted, except in the gunbay and the radio compartment., where RLM 02 was used. RLM 02 was asked used in the u/c bays in the wings, but not the fuselage. I like the Hobby Boss kits and have several. I just bought the new Amusing Hobby Me 262 HG III kit and I found some of the HB parts fit - the nosewhrel Bay and gunbay!. (The HG III was a proposal for an Me 262 with engines buried in the wingroots, increased sweeoback on the wings and kind of looks like a cross between a 262 and a Hawker Hunter!)

This looks awesome! I think the only thing thats missing is maybe some clear polish to make the model shiny.

Great work again. The Luftwaffe mottling effect is very random and sometimes quite faint. We have an Me 109 in the Canberra War Memorial which has its original paint. Very rare. It is quite obvious there and you captured it perfectly. Well done!

Thanks John, that 109 of the Australian War Memorial looks amazing indeed! Still in great shape. The G6 happens to be one of my favorite German fighters btw.

Yes the kit is very nice, HobbyBoss has done a few versions of their 1/48th Me262 but they all seem to share the same base-sprues for the production Me 262 A-1a, with additional parts for each specific variant. Thanks & have a nice day

Hey mate - very nice build. One area where both HB and Tamiya (and the old Trimaster/Dragon) miss the mark is the leading edge slats - they're usually dropped. Keep up the excellent builds, will be looking out for more in the future. Subbed 👍😁
@stevenshobbychannel
@stevenshobbychannel 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes you're right about that Michael, the slats are moulded like this in the wing, but it might be possible to cut them out before gluing the wing-halves together though. Have a nice day

Iv'e seen a few reviews about this kit saying that it's a bit of a 'dog?' Iv'e built three now and yes it can be challenging here and there but I love this kit.
@stevenshobbychannel
@stevenshobbychannel 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the kit is bad Alex, these days people just have very high expectations of new kits so the older ones are quickly labeled as 'dogs'. As long as you're having fun I don't see an issue with these kits 👍

@@stevenshobbychannel Indeed mate. We should just be glad that manafacturers are still giving us kits in these uncertain times and after all...if modelling can't challenge us...what's the point of modelling? I think we are living in plastic heaven at the moment and with the Airfix Anson and the ICM Bristol Beaufort (hopefully) on the way, things can only get better....now if Airfix were to give us a 1/24th Lysander or BP Defiant and a 1/48th Austin K2 Ambulance.....!?

Very nice work if you don't mind me saying I think the paint should have been sanded back it looks a little dusty lots of contamination on the surface. I wonder if it was the double application of primer. Its not a criticism but on observation of technique, preparation and application of paint.
@stevenshobbychannel
@stevenshobbychannel 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment, yes you're right I noticed it too while editing the video. It's less visible on the real model than the footage though, I think it has to do with the flat varnish, this attracts fine dust from the room and it's harder to whipe off than satin/gloss. I'll try to do better next time. Cheers

Awesome video and fantastic end result. May I ask how you were able to freehand airbrush the camouflage so smoothly? I also use Vallejo Modelair paints but I just can not figure out how to freehand camouflage using those paints. Although I correctly thin my paints and use the correct airpressure I keep on getting a lot of overspray and unregular spray patterns. Your tips/advice are most welcome!
@stevenshobbychannel
@stevenshobbychannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I'm not sure if I can give you a helpful answer, airbrushing fine lines can be a pain indeed. For starters the airbrush nozzle and needle need to be really well cleaned out for detail work, a small imperfection or slightly bend needle-tip can cause a lot of weird accuracy problems. For detail work I thin the paint a little more than I would for normal spray work. I use the Vallejo airbrush thinner. Also, for the finest lines you have to get really close to the model, I remove the needle-cap to do this and try to get like 2 to 4mm between the needle and model. The needle can be damaged if it hits the model so you'll need a steady hand. I quickly get 'tip-drying', so I regularly wipe the tip with a wet brush (tap water) to clean it between a few lines. Not sure if this helps but wish you the best 👍

is this set good for beginners? because im thinking of making this plane as my first ever set. or should i just get the swiss bf 109?
@stevenshobbychannel
@stevenshobbychannel 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, the fitting was pretty good for a beginner, some 'scraping' might be needed in front of the canopy part if I remeber correctly. The paintscheme I did in this video will be hard for a beginner if done with an airbrush though. In general a bf109 would be a good choise, I haven't made a swiss one. I would not recommend the ICM bf109 because the parts need more clean-up (flash) which might be demotivating for a first kit. Tamiya is expensive but there kits are well made so for a first kit it's worth the extra money. Have fun, cheers

also what is scraping?
@stevenshobbychannel
@stevenshobbychannel 2 жыл бұрын
You can 'scrape' with a hobby-blade to 'even out' a surface when it doesn't align 100%. It works best with a round/curved hobby blade, you put the blade onto the plastic surface, but instead of cutting you move it to the right/left to scrape off very thin bits of plastic, you can also sand the surface but scraping is a useful technique to learn as well. Cheers
