Great video! Man, I’m super curious to know what your current monthly yield on cost is for HYLD and the others in your main portfolio! I’ve built an investment tracker to start my journey and am interested to see the long term growth potential of ETFs like HYLD, as well as what the distribution increases will offer long term. Correct me if I’m wrong, but my thinking on how to calculate it would be the below: Average share price = (total contributions $)/(shares purchased from contributions + shares purchased from DRIP) Where “total contributions $” does not include the $ reinvested from DRIP as we’re calculating yield on cost from what you had to invest from earned income or what you put into your account. (Current distribution per share X 12)/(Average share price) With steady increases to distributions and compounding shares purchased from DRIP, I can see the potential for the yield on cost to be quite amazing for these funds long term.

Hi Adrian, just wanted to double check what you have listed for monthly income on Erica’s QDTE holding (RRSP). You show 2,534 shares with a *monthly* income of $2,572.01 USD. May’s dividend payout was .25 X 2534 shares = $506.80 per month.

You dont need high income funds if you focus on growth... for example if you bought dollarama 10 years ago you would have made hardly any dividends but the growth would have been fantastic.. You can then just slowly sell shares off for income.. There are lots of funds out there that have CAGR of 10% on average capital gains and some dividends.... for you that would be 200k+ growth per year. You have to be very active and watch these funds closely, they can be volatile and the income is fun, but its not without some risks in my opinion.. Some of these funds pay 15% per year but the share price is slowly declining (some not all of them)... so if you have 15% income and the shares drop 10% you really only made 5% if you see my point... it really depends on your objectives.

Next time you have your friends from Harvest on could you ask them why they shutdown HLFE and whether they are coming out with a replacement Canadian all in one leveraged covered call etf. When I get my proceeds from HLFE, expected July 5, I will either add to CNCL or perhaps a new position in Evolve ESPX. Disappointed Ted in Harvest😢

with a QQQY it is paying 50% dividend yield dose it mean over one year you can take a advantage of a tax deduction?

Any fund that has a yield of 50% will likely be worth less after a year. So if you sell it, you can declare a capital loss.

Curious, why take a position in SVOL with such a high expense ratio and lower yield relative to your other ETF's?. Same for MAXI with an outrageous expense ratio of 11.18%?
@SummitMan165
@SummitMan165 2 ай бұрын
This expense ratio in SVOL is not the “true” expense ratio, because they have to follow some accounting measure. I think real MER is around 1.50%
@PassiveIncomeInvesting
@PassiveIncomeInvesting 2 ай бұрын
Because I understand them and know the mer is not the “real one” . It’s complicated . But if you watch my interviews with the guys who manage the etf you would understand and answer your own question . Look are returns , not MERs …

There's no such thing as a free lunch, so here are a couple of important questions you should ask yourself: Where are the hidden risks in this portfolio? How will these funds perform in a down market? How much of your "income" is return of capital? Are any of these funds writing naked options? If so, they WILL blow up eventually.
@SummitMan165
@SummitMan165 2 ай бұрын
I don’t think any of theses ETF trade naked options

@dkyrtata6688 2 ай бұрын
What is the point of asking these questions if most people are unable to answer any of them? In particular the first two questions. If you have the answers, please share. The ROC question is answerable but it is as relevant as capital gains; the two are virtually the same thing.

@@dkyrtata6688I’m pretty sure return of capital is virtually the opposite of capital gains!
@dkyrtata6688
@dkyrtata6688 2 ай бұрын
@@James_48 No, it is the exact;y same thing except the tax is deferred until you sell the investment. To understand why, you have to understand the math. Consider these two cases: Let's say you invest $100 in a fund. Case 1: Market value of fund goes up to $110 and you sell the fund. Result: Your average cost (ACB) is $100; your capital gain is $10 (110-100) or 10%. Case 2: Market value of fund goes up to $110, but $99 of your original principal (ROC) was returned to you. Then you sell the fund. Result: The ROC causes the market value of the fund to go down to $11 (110-99); your new ACB goes down from $100 to $1 (100-99). The proceeds of selling the fund is $11; your capital gain from the sale is $10 (11-1) or 10% -- exactly like in the first case without ROC. The key details to remember are: 1) a distribution always reduces the unit price of a fund by the distribution per unit. 2) ROC always reduces the ACB and defers capital gains taxes to the tax year of when the fund is sold. This is an important tax strategy as it is better not to be taxed on your distributions during your high income employment years
