prices do indeed be wild today! I do everything on the cheap so my prices tend to stay low. I remember around 2009 era - I had a SNES game budget of £15 a month... Sometimes I could get 2 x complete in box games for that :D enjoyed the video! tight edit!
@AuthorativeMrM8 ай бұрын
After that initial burst of rather reckless spending, I went extremely cheap for pretty much everything else I bought after that. By mid-2012, I would have considered any game above $20 "too rich for my blood." These days I've pretty much stopping buying games entirely, except in very special circumstances. 😏

One of my favorite things to see is NES Games In their Original Box. These were some sweet Pickups and for the price you paid for em' back then seemed fair but today I couldn't justify $400 for Metal Storm. Lol
@AuthorativeMrM8 ай бұрын
Yeah, there's NO WAY I would spend $400.00 (or even half that) on even the mintiest, complete-est copy of Metal Storm. TBH I don't even know if I'd pay $70 for it anymore, I've gotten extremely cheap since 2011 😆

Great stuff. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a Metal Storm box, if I did it would have been tattered and not in great condition.
@AuthorativeMrM8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm glad I got that when I did. It was one of the OG "Hidden Gems" on the NES, so it caught my attention very early on when I decided it would be cool to buy some of those old NES tapes

Aside from the part when you cut to me saying "yea", my fav part of this video is when you suggest what other video someone may want to watch. I don't think I've seen that episode of yours LOL. I've always really liked Kid Icarus and it just might be in my top 10 NES games video that has been in production for 2 years. It's a tough playthrough. One of my earliest NES games. Great video!

I checked (last year) the price of my CIB copy of Sunsoft's Batman. It was going for around $250. Now, Price Charting is saying $70. I did pick up a copy of Metal Storm from Retro-bit, several years ago. The production is top notch.
@AuthorativeMrM8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I don't know how accurate Pricecharting is, I think prices sometimes change a little too fast for it to keep up. But it makes sense, I bet most of these games were probably valued even higher a year or two ago

Love seeing these collection videos from you, you’ve got a very impressive assortment of NES games! My most valuable NES game is one you mentioned in this video and one we’ve talked extensively about together, Metal Storm. I don’t have the box though. I bought it at a Funcoland/GameStop in 2001 for $4.99, which still blows my mind. 😅 Also appreciate the Kid Icarus shout out! Would love to see other collection videos like this, but I know you’re already stretched pretty thin for time with your GBGB series.

Hiya MrM! I'm not surpised at the amount of Mega Man titles in this list, but Kid Icarus and Whomp 'Em were really cool to see on here! I recall you telling me about how you acquired DuckTales 2, but it was still nice to see it represented on this list :] Ofcourse no NES collection is complete without a copy of Castlevania 💙💙💙 I may consider making a response to this if I can ever catch up on some of my other stagnant channel projects 😂 Fun video, and great editing as always!
@AuthorativeMrM7 ай бұрын
Lol, I was actually surprised that this list contained so many Mega Man titles, but I guess since CIB games are generally more valuable than most loose games, a lot of otherwise unremarkably-priced games would benefit from the curve
@thetoyfreaks61348 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm not sure why it's so taboo to talk about prices. I think there is a double standard there, it's ok to talk about how cheap you got a game, but you can't talk about the value of a game as it as appreciated over time. I also love MegaMan!!! LOL
@AuthorativeMrM8 ай бұрын
I was actually kind of surprised that most of the games on this list WEREN'T actually bought very cheaply. It took me a while before I actually cared about how much I was spending on games. If it were up to me, Mega Man 2 CIB would still be in the $40-$50 range 😇

I really long for the old days when it comes to collecting where even though things could get expensive, it was rarely outrageous so and if there was a rare game you really wanted, it was something you could both realistically save up for and justify spending said amount on. I mean, games like Earthbound is not someone with a regular income could possibly justify getting just because its cool or neat. Even if a game holds some deep sentimental value, it still hard blowing more than $100 on a game. let alone $1,000 I think if I had to point out anything that gets close to rare that I got in the past, it would be Ufouria for the NES. A game that holds a good amount of sentimental value from my youth. To the extent that I actually did a rom fan translation of it.
@AuthorativeMrM4 ай бұрын
@@captainnintendo Yeah, after spending most of my collecting period during the pre-retro craze period, I have a really hard time spending more than $50 on any game. Sadly, it seems like most games that aren’t dirt common these days are being sold for $100 or more. It’s a sad state, for sure.
@RetroRivals8 ай бұрын
A fair amount of Mega Man games in the mix. I'm glad you covered the topic of cost and value too. I don't understand people doing all in a huff when you tell them on a KZbin video, the exact same information they could find on price charting. People are weird. I would love to do something like this but it would just be a bunch of mid-tier valued games and then one really expensive sealed game that I've already talked too much about 😂😂😂
@AuthorativeMrM8 ай бұрын
All I can figure is that some people just don't want anyone else to have things that they like. I was honestly kind of disappointed that most of the games on this list were only there because they included the boxes. I would have never expected Mega Man 3 to be one of the most valuable NES games I own, lol
@sargesmash13 ай бұрын
Cool collection, especially with the boxed Mega Man games! My copy of Mega Man 2 doesn't look nearly as nice as yours. According to PriceCharting, my top 10 is: 1. TMNT: Tournament Fighters (CIB) - 1563.25 2. Jetsons: Cogswell's Caper (CB) - 521.48 3. Mega Man 5 (CIB) - 362.50 4. Dragon Warrior IV (CIB) - 327.42 5. Dragon Warrior III (CIB) - 321.06 6. Mighty Final Fight (C) - 263.12 7. Mega Man 6 (CIB) - 218.38 8. G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor (CIB) - 174.58 9. TMNT III: The Manhattan Project (CB) - 167.84 10. Batman: Return of the Joker (CB) - 163.33 Technically Mega Man 6 should be at the 8 position since I have another that's cart + box. I paid very, very little for most of these back in the day. TMNT: TF was a Walmart purchase many moons ago for $13, Mega Man 5 I think was KB Toys for $20, Mighty Final Fight was effectively $3.33, G.I. Joe was like $10 at a rental store, Dragon Warrior III was like $13 at another rental store, etc. I think the most that was spent on any of these was Dragon Warrior IV, which was given to me by my parents for Christmas, and I remember it was $39.99 from a Suncoast Video in the mall. The really ridiculous part is that I *almost* sold TMNT: TF at a yard sale for $10. Dodged that bullet for sure! Looking back, I wish I'd had more money because I definitely had other opportunities to load up on games. And I remember passing up on Little Samson back in the day on eBay, thinking, "Man, they want $50 for an NES game?! That's crazy!" Joke's on me, haha!

Damn, those are some heavy hitters! Most of my games were purchased in the past 15 years or so, so it's impressive that you've managed to hang on to some of those games for so long - AND keep their boxes! Whenever I got a new NES game as a kid, I immediately tossed those boxes right into the garbage 🙄
@sargesmash12 ай бұрын
@@AuthorativeMrM Yeah, I was that weird kid that hung on to everything - I was just a little obsessed. Maybe still that way. It was rare for me to get new games, maybe that was part of it. Most of my games came from yard sales and wheeling and dealing at pawn shops. There's still games I'd love to add to the library, but I don't think I can bring myself to spring for them - gotta be fiscally responsible or something like that. 😂 I'm actually impressed you put yours together that late and still came out way ahead. Also, that DuckTales 2 cart... what a win on that. I had one that got away from me, told my cousin if they ever sold their NES, I'd buy it from them. He didn't tell me, and sold all of it for like $20... and a complete DuckTales 2 was part of it. Doh! Of course, that was many years ago, but it still irks me to this day!
