Tyson, I love watching your videos. They take me back in time. I used to have an '87 Integra RS 3 door with a manual transmission. I loved that car. It was red with black interior. I owned it for about 2 years until someone slammed into the back of me and knocked me into the car in front of me. Totaled my Integra, which I replaced with an '88 Honda Prelude Si 4WS. However, I helped a friend of mine shop for an '89 Integra LS 5 door like yours. She loved hers too.

Thanks Andy! Yeah this is my first time owning a first-gen and now I get why people love them so much!

Wow, that car looks nearly identical (except for the trans) to one I found on a used car lot in the ‘90s. I test drove it and wanted it, but my dad wanted no part in helping me buy it. Haha

I always appreciate your dedication for restoring classic Acuras. Most people wouldn't take a second glance at these cars but you take them to a whole new level in terms of appreciation. I love seeing the progress of taking an abused daily driver and converting it into almost museum quality status. Please don't ever lose that! If I could, I would do the same thing. I would love to have a garage full of classic Hondas/Acuras. My parents would think I'm absolutely nuts but at least I'll know that somebody out there such as you would appreciate it. Great video as always!

Haha I appreciate it. I agree, it's rewarding to take a "surviving" original car and make it in something that shines!

Good heavens. I was looking up something on KZbin and this jumped out at me. Can you say satisfying.... the way that Paula Abdul cassette fits into that section of the dash? I hope this is a 'love me forever' and not 'caught in a hit and run' car (Straight Up lyrics). Acura is soooo lucky to have you as a resource.

Looks like a typical car from Washington. Everyone makes such a big deal about California cars, but Washington and Oregon have some of the nicest examples of well used cars because we don’t often get strong UV rays that bake dashboard plastics and clearcoat. Having lived in the Seattle area for my entire life, I often take that for granted.
@TysonHugie3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you. My '96 TL was also from there and underneath some of the moss/dirt, the whole body & undercarriage were mint.
@VirtualGuth3 жыл бұрын
I was just commenting elsewhere above that upon moving to Oregon almost two decades ago, I was struck by just how many really old cars were still in decent shape inside and out, wearing what was obviously their original paint. For this reason, I saw a number of cars that I had never before heard of. I'm not talking about garage queens, but cars that had obviously been parked outside for most of their existence.
@VirtualGuth3 жыл бұрын
Very cool. A close friend of mine bought a new Integra LS 3 door back in 1986 with the 5-speed manual. This was notable in part because Acura itself was only a few months old at the time. His Integra was a light blue (which was named Riviera blue as best I can tell) with a blue interior. I don't know why this stood out to me, but one of the more memorable things about that car was the interior as it featured a bold pattern of diagonal stripes.
@TysonHugie3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, some of those 80s cloth interiors were the best! My '89 Prelude has really pronounced stripes in the seat upholstery too.

Wow! I'm really excited! You got a first gen!!! My first Acura was a red 88 LS 3 door. Then I got a Black 89 LS 3 door. At the same time period My land lord at the time had a Gray 87 LS 5 door. I use to keep it up for her. ( clutches and timing belts Oil changes ETC.) Been looking for one around here and they're just about non existent. That one is nice. I'm glad it had the hatch cover. Those are like finding hens teeth around here.

What a nice example of a 1989 Honda Integra. You show so much love for these cars and everytime they turn out so clean after you worked on them. Here in Europe we got the Integra under the Honda name. Here it had a 1.5 liter 12 valve engine under the hood. I remember these cars so well. Together with the Honda Accord CA at that time they were ultra modern and very well engineered cars. Super super reliable also. Thanks for this great video!!

Arriving in the Pacific Northwest two decades ago, I was struck by just how many really old cars were in decent shape inside and out. Still wearing what was obviously their original paint. Chalk this up to the mild climate. Plenty of gray, damp days with little intense heat. While the mountains do see snow, most of the region only sees rain and salt is almost never used on the roads. So cars often look worse than they are, cleaning up nicely. It's a great area to find some gems.

Other than the small size and lack of safety, this is the best era for Hondas - although I prefer the second gen. These were the cars with a Honda soul. I speak in some videos, the Honda seats on 1988-1991 models were the best seats ever made by the industry. People don't realize how well designed were those seats. Models from 92-on still had nice engines but the interior was no longer a real Honda. In my opinion, Honda died in 1992 with the introduction of the cost cutting 'rounded' shape models. Funnily enough (so to speak) Soichiro Honda also died in August 1991. Coincidence ?
