This generation Corolla were the best Toyota put out of their factories. Today, they are so much in demand in the used car market because those that know, buy them up immediately. the 4A-FE engine is basically bullet proof and has been known to run over 400,000 with basic maintenance. Great purchase.

5:05-5:16 to answer your question check the carburetor as the fuel sometimes gets clogged and the car engine randomly stalls and shuts off when you have come to a stop at the lights. It can also be a bad or dying starter. Check the battery too. Lastly the air filter system. Had these issues but way worse than your car indicated when you started it here.
@menomisespeanut6 ай бұрын
Thank you I will do that. I replaced the timing belt and the water pump, I’ve changed the spark plugs, I’ve had my car looked at by four different mechanics, and they all said that there was nothing wrong with the starter or any issues with the engine. Since then, I’ve driven this car from Texas to the Carolinas recently to Philadelphiaand back so I think this car is doing just fine. But I will keep these concerns in mine in the future.

Just bought a no upgrade '89 DX and i love it! No ac, roll up window's, 220,000 miles. Runs like a sewing machine. I've had it for three weeks and had 7 offers to buy it. Great car, keep it, and give her some love. Basic maintenance and replacing old petrified carburetor hoses and coolant hoses are first and foremost, then have the timing belt replaced, i recommend a "Gates belt" a little TLC and she will run forever, that's why everyone wants em 😊.ps... Mine is silver, and kinda pimped out with rims and tinted windows with rain guards and looks like a old school BMW. I absolutely love this car, you will love yours too, just give her a little love with some maintenance, the timing belt is extremely important, if not replaced on Carollas of this age, you can grenade the engine. Other than that it's bulletproof. Have fun driving it, i am.
@menomisespeanut10 ай бұрын
100% agree. I just had the timing belt and the water pump replaced along with the alternator belt. I replaced the windshield, and the rubber hoses and wires are all good. She does drive like a champ. She’s currently my daily. I drive her back-and-forth from work, which is a one hour commute or two hours going both ways. Never had an issue and I currently have cruise control on as I’m texting this. The heat works just fine and I love it. I’ve had two mechanics, ask if I were going to sell or fix my car. Of course I plan to fix her up. The only thing she really needs at this point is a fresh paint shop and some decent speakers, but I plan to keep her 100% stock. I don’t want any modifications other than a window tint maybe. But I like it just the way that it is.

@@joshuawick5382 such a great choice. I recall growing up and seeing Hondas everywhere, especially early 90s models. Growing up I always identified that as the first car for every young teenager or adult. Now they’re so few on the road that you see. But the ones that I have seen are typically well used and just a testament to how well built they were. I absolutely love JDM cars manufactured between the 80s and 90s. The Golden age and my opinion of Japanese auto engineering I had the privilege of living in Japan for two years, where my appreciation and respect for Toyota as a brand only cemented. I only wish that we had a quarter of the cars that are manufactured and available in Japan in the United States. Until then I am content with this car. Hopefully I can save up and get , this car, a fresh coat of paint and some tinted windows. Other than that, I plan on leaving it completely stock. By the way, I’m totally jealous of your five speed. My absolute first car was a 1987 Mazda 6262 door and that was a five speed manual. That’s how I learned how to drive stick shift. Unfortunately I had to give it away because I didn’t have a lot of money to make small repairs for it, which were so easy to fix. And I was getting out of the military and I had to drive across country so I had to save up my money and get a newer more reliable car. My other car is a 2013 Toyota scion XD .

Thankfully, the car’s AC works perfectly. Originally when I got it, it needed a full brake job and it had this horrific idling problem where it would randomly rev up and down a lot. Thankfully, I managed to find a replacement Idle Air Control Valve. It was expensive, but it solved the problem. The car also needed a new alternator just 2 weeks after I bought it. My Dad was very apprehensive about me buying it at first, but I instantly fell in love with it so I decided to give it a chance and it’s been reliable.

I had a narrow body Camry (I think it was a 91). They're a lot better with the acceleration. Had the original AC refrigerant. I'm willing to bet no other car was made in the 80s or 90s that still held the original refrigerant that long. I wouldn't worry about the AC refrigerant they seem to never leak out. BUT please don't use those stupid AC cans from stores. I've seen AC systems wrecked by those.
