As a printer myself, there’s nothing the people at the factory can probably do about the washed out look on the darker images. Most of the stuff I’ve had that blend needs to be lightened up in a pdf file. These look even worse than that. It’s the foiling probably making them darker. The customer is probably aware of this and if it’s questionable we usually contact them and let them decide what they want to do. I only do black and white but I have a pretty good idea what they are dealing with

Chase serialized cards are a terrible selling point for MTG, LOTR did successful because story wise the serialized numbered rings made sense and they were a collector item for LOTR fans, adding serialized cards to future premium products will just drive Wizards of the coast to become more greedy, mark up their boxes even more and few people will buy the product and after the hype dies down regular serialized MTG cards will plunge in value because people will lose interest in the expensive paper weight that will never see table top play.

They’re for gamblers only and that will not be enough to replace people who stop buying boxes and switch to singles due to lack of value. Look at Brother’s War and Neon Dynasty, serialized and chase neons with no sustained success. They sold ok but they were good regular sets not “premium” sets. Chase cards cannot prop up masters sets.

Bought one from a local game store expecting to take an "L" pulled the foil Borderless Jeweled Lotus and a foil Deflecting Swat. Was on a high and bought one from another local shop only pulled a Darksteel Monlith. Definitely a mad gamble.

As someone who got burned out 3 years ago, coming back now it is pretty nice being able to pick up bomb after bomb in the dollar rare box at the local shop. I found so many gems, and going into it thinking I don't want to spend more than 2 bucks or so a card. The counterfit cards are getting really good to, so hard to justify spending more on cards.

I think the average box this comes in at like 100$ worth of cards outside of the 1/6 chance of hitting the lotus. The lands are under 10, the mythics are not worth much and a 3rd copy of time warp is not a money card even if it was 150$ before this reprinting. overall the feels like they tried to make a set with the highest dollar value without looking at supply or how the cards actually sell on ebay/TCG player.

Chase/serialized cards will never be able to fight excessive reprinting because as soon as the chase is rare enough, it no longer adds significant value to the box and most people will resort to just singles again.

They're clearly still at the throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks portion, probably isolating variables. I think some people might not like it but I think if they can get the correct way to store value for chase items and keep the base cheap it'll be far more healthy for the game long term. At the end of the day the core value proposition is being game pieces for a popular game, so if it can be accessible while still providing high value chase options that's probably the best mix.

Does anyone remember the first Modern Masters set from like 10 years ago? It had a MSRP of 6.99 usd, had good reprints and was fun to open. Only problem was the limited production. Ten years later, no MSRP, collectors boxes with 4 packs, commander masters decks with awful mana bases, set boxes at ridiculous prices, to many versions of the same card in the set and a long etc. It’s so sad.

They charge the names so they can call it a a new card. With that particular creature care it allowed them to add the druid creature type as well. Plus you can make some fun jamky Also with cards that are functionally the same but get around the 4 cards per deck rule. I think there's three two other cards that are Llanowar. Elves but with different names, so I could have 12 Llanowar Elves in my deck if I wanted. There's three other cards that are basically shock and I liked to our 16 of them in a deck. Not a very complex deck but it did upset people so there's that.

As for the value, considering that the functional cards themselves are being reprinted to the ground and thanks to CB there's plenty available, I would not bet on those. Fetches are constructed format cards not edh staples. These crowd lands are perfect for the set unless you are greedy or unreasonable. Portrait cards should be in secret layer because they are unique looking and so different then normal magic cards.
