Been saddle hunting over 30 years and tried it all and the back brace is money!! I also put a podium foot platform on the tree as a seat with me facing the tree straddling it. The platform folds up against the tree whenever you want to stand up. I get to my stand an hour before daylight so I actually take a nap before daylight using the seat and back band. The podium has rounded corners unlike most foot platforms. I have 28 ladder stands on 5 farms in Nebraska, I use the seat part of the ladder stand as my foot platform and screw in 2 tree steps to be able to hunt 360. Just a little advice from an old (68) pro. Love your videos and a big FAN 🏹🏕️🏔️

Can you drop a link of the tree seat you use? I was considering running a hang on with my saddle but may be easier to run this

@TheHuntingTrout I went from Hawks to the Latitude sticks, but with a gen 1 Tethrd predator platform. Been eyeing the profile really hard

I would highly recommend the Timber Ninja carbon sticks. Those Hawk Helium sticks failed on me in Oklahoma when the tempers were in the 30's. Those versa buttons harden up in the cold, and you have to practically "deadlift" the sticks apart from one another, which breaks the plastic/ rubber versa button. Carbon sticks are expensive but so worth it.

Been hunting Elk for over 27 years. Not many NW hunters hunt elk with a saddle. I don't know why or "why not" but man is it a very good way for those of us "public land hunters" who like to get into the backcountry a little deeper than most, even if it's just a few miles in....... A 12lb Saddle setup is nothing to hike in with. It's a game changer for me. I have certainly hunted from a tree stands many times but setting them and trying to carry one into "the deep" is a pain in the @#$ and very difficult to "Run and Gun" or change trees on the fly! Get yourself several platforms and a good set of lightweight sticks and you will never look back. Bigger for a platform is not always better..... My suggestion is the EDP platform (my personal favorite and Ive tried several and do have different platforms). Something about the EDP, the way it's cut, angles and engineering is top notch. Whoever the engineer is at Trophyline is no doubt a saddle hunter and has spent many hours in a saddle on a platform. The EDP is a work of art. Once you use one and have used something else you will know what I mean. Love the channel.

You should look into the amsteel rope to replace the straps. I run 4 of the 20 inch helium sticks with amsteel straps with amsteel aiders. The aimsteel guy makes great stuff

Dan get into one sticking. Get you an EWO Ultimate one stick with 40’ of canton elite 9mm rope and a madrock. Knowing you, you would like one sticking and excel at it. All your climbing gear would weigh in under 2lbs. Can’t beat it

I had those sticks and went to latitude carbon ss. I would highly recommend them. They are easier to transport and stack way better. Thanks for the content.

I have both the Heliums (2 sets) and a set of the Latitude Carbon sticks. The heliums work for sure but as many have said, they're not lightweight or quiet. I tend to use those in semi-permanent stand locations and if I'm worried about them getting stolen, I'll remove the bottom stick and hike in with it. The carbon sticks are amazing, very quiet once you put the silencing tape on them, and are soooo easy to attach to the tree, compared to sticks with versa buttons. Before next season, I'm going to modify my Heliums and replace the versa button with something similar to what the Tethrd and Latitude sticks use for attachment.

I started with the hawk sticks to save money. They are very heavy compared to the tethrd sticks or on a budg t the XOP sticks are amazing and add an aider step if you want more height.

I use the XOP sticks also with a 2 step aider and love them.

@ I know it was addressed in the video, but I would suggest at least giving the 1 stick method a try. I’m on year 2 of it and really like only having 1 stick. You do sacrifice a bit on platform size, but to me its worth it. I’ve comfortably sat 6+ hours. With the smaller platform it is harder to get around for the weakside shot though.

Love this guys advice he has a lot of knowledge. I will have to say Amstel aiders are great three steps of Amstel added to one stick means 2 sticks can go farther then 4 sticks alone. It’s well worth it. I prefer One stick I can go 20+ in 3 moves it’s awesome. But I Mainly hunt ten feet tho

I’m not sure how far you walk in to hunt but you may want to ditch the heavy sticks and go with some lighter options out there and use aiders. My setup is 10lbs and I can get to 22 feet.
