I was slightly confused by the phrase "starting its turn". They could've said it must seek absolution by "becoming" adjacent to one of your bishops. "Starting its turn" sounds as if they can only make a capturing move by starting next to a bishop, which is not the case.

"You can only capture on odd-numbered moves, *and you can put yourself in checkmate* for fun."
@Krahhl28 күн бұрын
The opponent actually could've gotten out of that by playing 13 ... Rxf7 as Simp's queen hasn't started its turn adjacent to a bishop yet and therefore still can't capture. Then the queen is still trapped and even though he's figured out the drawback and might try to use move 14 to escape, the opponent has the very lucky Bb4+ to force a response and then take the queen. Of course I don't blame the opponent for not seeing any of that during the game, but it's quite interesting to explore the possible timelines with these drawbacks in hindsight.

@linguotgr28 күн бұрын
Qg6 wouldnt really be a check though, because the queen couldnt actually capture the king (which has to happen for a win to occur, unlike normal chess). I think black has to play something like Be6 to prevent the bishop from taking on f7 and reactivating the queen.

He lowered his ELO for an easier game. That's what a coward would do.
@baroswista350427 күн бұрын
Wait, I just realised how he calculates his winrate: Instead of doing V/G, where V is the number of victories and G is the number of games played, he does (V-D)*100%, and if R of 1, where R is result, equals D, then the formula is instead (V-(D-1))*100%, where D is the number of defeats. V still denotes victories.
@baroswista350427 күн бұрын
Then again, he did this round at minimum ELO, and so his max ELO Drawback chess winrate is still under 50% under the normal winrate calculation, thus his net victory count is negative in that.
