Home office: Totally separate space. You go when you are working (to the room) and can’t do house stuff (because you’re “at” work). Outside of the office space? Then you are not at work. I even started keeping two phones so I can leave work at home. Got sick of answering calls at Target. It’s stressful. A solid schedule is helpful too, complete with breaks. I’ve done this system with as little as a desk in my bedroom. Little weird, but I’d walk out, shut the door to my bedroom and came back into my office. You just have to stick to it. I think people get into trouble when they forget that they work from home, as opposed to working anytime you’re at home. Maybe it’s more like your office is at your home, your whole ass home isn’t your office. That’s what I’ve got from 15 years of working from home. Hope there’s something to think about.

TheGooglyminotaur As someone who’s also been self-employed over a decade, I agree with this. If you can’t dedicate a space, try putting away work things, like notebooks or computers when the work day ends. Even try having a personal and work computer account so you log out and don’t go into your work email until morning. It’s so difficult but so worth it for your own well-being. And go for walks, lots of walks to clear your head. 😊

Wow thank you! Great tip. Ive been struggling because i will take breaks from work to clean/cook. I really should "pack a lunch" and schedule another time for cleaning.

Totally separate space and computer logins are SO helpful. Even if they are just as simple as a basket to contain your work logs and papers and stationery that can be put away when you're "Off Duty". We had separate binders and computer logins for Farm Stuff. You can still do "lunch at home" but set an alarm and when "lunchtime" is over, back to work you go. Yes, cleaning when you're "off duty" from work is essential. One other thing that people who work outside the home do is change clothes immediately when they get home. Even if it's as simple as changing your shirt or putting on an apron or cleaning supplies thingy, it helps to delineate "work" from "home". In our house, everyone gets half an hour "quiet time" when they get home from work/school/the field before they have to launch into household activities. My additional advice is to share your goals with someone to keep you accountable. When someone queries "Aren't you supposed to be off duty now?" it helps a lot to get you back on track. We had a unique set-up. Himself and I worked at the same off-the-farm-job with rotating shifts aka Tag-Team-Parenting, we both worked on-the-farm, and when Kidlet was small, we had to have a Designated Parent-In-Control [PIC] at all times. Once Kidlet even walked into a room where Himself and I were having a coffee and asked: "Who is PIC?" LOL Neither of us was wearing "off the farm work clothes" and she couldn't tell who was on days off. I also maintained a Family Monthly Whiteboard. We each had our own colour for our shift schedules, Kidlet and school events were in kidlet's colour and anything else [Dr., orthodontist, continuing education classes, swimming lessons, farm deliveries, etc.] were put in the colour of the PIC responsible. So if you have a family wall calendar for a couple of weeks to help you develop a new habit, you might want to mark in your "Work Hours".

I work from home, i calendar block specific duties and stick to it, also I have program goals and timelines that are a basic list of things to tackle for each program, events, those are my long term planning notes to myself. I also delay send myself emails as specific reminders. With the calendar block people can’t schedule me for other appointments. I plan conferences and run education programs, this has helped me to check in and remind myself to keep working on my plans and goals. I don’t think I’ll let go of my actual planner, but i do like the other portions of the journal...right now I have a thought journal, brain dump journal, i like the idea of combining and editing my thoughts to essential bullet points. Ohhh my gosh okay I don't normally directly use other people's designs and such in my own bujo (decorative stuff, not functional stuff -- the rolling weekly is absolutely what got me through my final projects this semester), but as I set up my stuff for 2020 I am absolutely stealing all this for my own. I just adore how everything looks here! And I also prefer the more minimalist design for at least the beginning of the year, to start it off all clean and slick. So excited to see the rest of your Plantmas videos!

I work from home (for a company, not self-employed) and I hesitate to say that it’s about discipline and boundaries. You say you want to wrap up by 7:30...make that 7:00 and allow an extra 30 minutes only when needed (you’re in a flow, etc.). Forgive yourself for pushing things to tomorrow. Have something to do when you’re done working, something that will take your mind off it. I journal, meditate and then read or play a video game for an hour after I’m done working and before dinner. I do not like to go directly from work to making dinner. Give yourself an hour between work and dinner if you can. I’ve also had a lot of success using the pomodoro method, which is worth researching for anyone who struggles with time management and self-boundaries. Most of this is mental and can be overcome. It was extremely difficult for me but now I know to shut it down at 5:30 (but I allow until 6 for special cases).

I've been working from home for 6 years and my favorite separation tips is that I work in my basement suite (the living room) which has French doors. I keep my work 100% in this room and do not work in any other space. This means when I go upstairs for lunch, it's as if I have left the office. For lunch I normally cook myself something rather than eat a sandwich at my desk and I watch some Netflix for my break. I also keep my art/craft space separate from my work area and it's set up in the "kitchen" of the suite. so my hobbies are separate from my work! I normally work from 7 to 6 which does impact health / mind so it's important to get outside during the day.

@sbdragoo4463

@@PlantBasedBride Having worked from home myself and had limited space available in a previous configuration... You don't need a separate room for your office. Just limit all "work" functions to a specific area that is off-limits once your "workday" ends. If the work area needs to be shared with other functions, do your best to clean up / put away work items when work ends so that you're not tempted to just 'do this one quick thing' (which always turns into many 'one quick things' and several hours). Even things as simple as picking up all pens and pencils and storing them in a drawer or box and closing notebooks can provide enough of a reminder that those are work items that you're opening up during the non-work time. Any reminder helps on this issue. My wife has a very small desk she uses that the front closes. This also helps keep the multi-use space looking neat when she isn't working.

Have you ever used a "Rolling Ruler" when drawing parallel lines? Another technique is to get two small drafting triangles, set the long edge of one along the line you wish to draw parallel to, then place the second one firmly against one of the other edges (preferably at 90 degrees to the baseline), then slide the first triangle along the second to the position of the next parallel line to be drawn and draw the line. You can keep sliding the first triangle along the second one to draw several parallel lines before having to reposition the second triangle. There are also calligraphy rules that have lines along one edge that are intended to be parallel to that edge, but I've not seen reliable results from these.

I also work from home and it's a struggle to find balance I have yet to find something that works well for me. I'm doing a 1820s theme focusing on Percy Shelley's poems from that year and the language of flowers from the time period.

Ohhh. . . perfect timing! I just bought a planner yesterday, too. The gold accent adds so much elegance to the minimalistic vibe. Anyhow, Imma steal the Kanban and Ideal day. I need those to keep myself on track with my art and life in general. 😂 Lastly, the evolution of your bujo and video making is just inspiring! I remember seeing your older videos and the growth is just insane. Just goes to show how we improve by simply committing to things we love. And btw, are u going to do your husband's set up too? Im excited to see how that turns out too.

I admit I'm not a minimalist when it comes to planners(I use abt 6 lol) and I'm still new to BJing but your 2020 BJ is absolutely STUNNING!! I think I might have to give this type of planning another try P.S. Since you're a fan of FSF, ArtDeco and the "Roaring 20's", then you might agree wth me that while "The Great Gatsby" movie from the early 70's didn't get great reviews, it still was nice looking at Robert Redford for three dreamy hours lol.

Hi! I just started working from home for the past two months, and I definitely agree that it’s hard to stop. I’ll find myself doing something unproductive and immediately thinking that I could be doing x,y, and z. I find the best way for me to be on a normal schedule is to try and be in routine with my boyfriend, and usually we hang out around 6:30 pm until we go to sleep. A way that I mark this is by what time I want to have a drink, so I’ll stop and get a beer and then I won’t feel like doing any more work for the day, and by that point I’ve gotten all my necessary work done so I can stop! If you don’t drink, maybe use this time to start doing a fun activity because you’ll feel inclined to stop because you’d rather do this one activity that you do at 7:30. Let me know your thoughts!

You were taking about work/life separation, and that is a serious struggle for people that work from home, and I was one of them. I drove myself to an actual mental break down because I didn’t know how to “turn off“ my workday. Also I was working for an online company that wanted me to never put down my phone and always be in contact with my customers and I felt like that was a grave violation of my personal space. You have to tell yourself that it’s OK to stop. You don’t have to look at work emails past a certain time of the day. You don’t have to respond to people immediately even though this is the age of instant gratification. The stores in our town have a closing time as should you personally. My closing time is when my husband gets home from work and I start to cook dinner and we sit down as a family and eat. That’s it I’m done. I’m not worried about anything else other than spending time with him and relaxing and enjoying a couple of hours before I go to bed. It was hard at first to not jump when I heard a notification on the phone or to not feel guilty that Judy so-and-so had to wait until tomorrow for me to answer. It wasn’t until my husband finally said “who do these people think they are that it’s OK for them to demand a response at 8 PM Or 9 PM” and he was correct. If I had a problem with target and they close at 8 o’clock I can’t go down there at 9 o’clock and yell at somebody not that I would do that but you get what I mean. I promise you if you can look at your work life in this way it is going to save you so much mental stress! It’s not gonna be easy at first but I know you can do it! Best of luck ❤️

I quit "working" when I stop to make dinner. If I have the evening to myself I "work" on fun stuff like sewing or other handwork. But remember, if your "work" is your fun stuff then there's no reason to stop... Just be sure to schedule time for your significant others. Check out Travis Robertson's video on "9 life areas for goal setting". If you are including these in your plans, only you can say what's fun and what's work. Sending lots of love ❤ from sunny 🌅 Arizona 🌵

@S Fong not quite, but yes on the whole it is mainly people who identify as women who have periods. If you want to learn more and appear more informed online, please do check out any of the tens of thousands of KZbin videos that explain gender identity in more detail. I will happily signpost you to some if you comment on this. Gender identity can be an overwhelming subject for people who conform to the sex they were assigned at birth, but if you are interested in learning more about those who don’t please let me know and I will post some links.

I watched another KZbinr do their spread and it was gorgeous, but she pulled out like 5 new products per page and it was quite excessive. Reading Recommendation: Jean M. Auel Earth's Children Series. There are 6 books in total. The first two were published in 1980 & 1981. I've read the series annually over the Christmas Break since 1981. It was a bleak 12 years between books 4 & 5 let me tell ya! I'm excited that re-read #38 is quickly approaching :) Wow, I didn't realize it had been that long since I started this series! A second series that is out of my normal genre is the After Cilmeri Series by Sarah Woodbury. These were initially self-published e-books that can now be purchased on Kobo. There are 14 or 15 titles.
