As someone who has traveled international frequently, a small travel toiletry kit should have your meds, toothbrush/paste, dental floss, razor, feminine hygiene products (if applicable), travel sized bar soap, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, hand lotion, eyeglass cleaner (if applicable), a few cotton swabs, nail clippers/Emory board, and a zip lock snack bag or two (for used soap, or other small damp/wet items). There are also small pellet sized hand towels that can be handy. I’d you worry about smells, you can add small cologne/perfume sample bottles that are tiny. I personally also like to carry some wet wipes for a quick clean-up and a small bit of hand sanitizer.

I love bright lining on my pouches makes it so much easier to see in a dimly lit plane, train or hotel room!! I usually buy grey not black on the outside for the same reason...black blends into the background too easily and can get lost. Its fun to see your kit and see your favorites.

That’s great! Being a woman, my minimal Dopp is still way too large. Of course I never get to travel. We have health problems in our house and so my pack is ER ready at all times. After a 4 stay at the hospital with my daughter back before Christmas, I’m trying to create a totally separate 72 hour hospital pack. I have lived for two nights just out of my purse and backpack in a surprise hospital stay when my dad had a stroke. That was pre-Rona and so food was easy to come by. Now , you almost need to pack MRE’s. This is my form of travel… it’s pathetic and one day I hope to change it to camping in a camper.
@truneilson2 жыл бұрын
If you ever do get to travel I used to fly on Delta and they allow an EXTRA free carry one if you pack ONLY your medical items in it. For me who had to travel with what amounted to a hospital in my bag this was VERY helpful.
@dougbotimer80052 жыл бұрын
Hope you get to travel for fun soon. The 72 hour hospital bag is a great plan. After an unexpected hospital stay almost a year ago, our bug-out bad has been updated a bit for hospital and other contingencies.

@@JonGadget Thanks, I’d much rather have a cool travel pack but with aging parents I think having a pack in the closet ready to go is a good idea. Having what you need to take care of yourself and having some comfort items makes all the difference in the world in making it through a stressful situation. It makes it just a bit better. Having the means to shower and change, a comfy pair of slippers or a comfy blanket if you stay the night (I’m a mama bear over my kids and my parents, I’m gonna be right there as an advocate) makes it so much easier to care for the person and that actually helps the nurses and techs out. If I am there then they don’t have to worry about falls so much and I can help with bathroom trips and such. My goal is to not be a burden on the staff but helpful to both my loved one and to them and work as a team to get them healthy again. Being prepared allows me to do that. Then I come home and fall apart like the emotional weirdo that I am. Lol. As long as I can pull it together when I’m needed. I honestly think that admiring my handy work in preparation, using it and thinking of how I could make it better is also a bit of a comping mechanism. In actual travel, I like road trips and I have a million ideas for my truck a 2007 Yukon Denali (Don’t laugh, I’m happy to own something from this century). I love this truck! I’d like to optimize the everyday carry aspects of it. I already carry kleenex, wipes and hand sanitizer. Jumper cables of course although I really want a jump box so I, as a 4’ 11” tiny woman do not have to rely on strangers to crank my truck in a bad battery situation. I’d like to add some basic tools and keep basic fluids. You are right about the zip ties. I ALWAYS have zip ties! I have zip ties in my purse aka Mystery Ranch Hip Monkey ( I use it as a sling) as we speak. And of course as a red blooded American woman, I have my conceal carry permit in my wallet and my .380 well hidden on my tiny person as well as a good OC spray. I too carry a Swiss Army Knife! I have been looking around for a multi-tool for my pack or my truck and I like the one you showed in one of your videos, I can’t remember which one now, but I need the pliers and some of the other tools as just extra. I keep a knife within reach to break glass and cut the seat belt in case of an underwater situation. I don’t intend to end up in the water. That falls into my nightmare category but when I’m afraid of something, I find out how you best deal with that situation and then prepare myself. Then I can quit thinking about it. I’m really enjoying your channel! I’m really glad that KZbin suggested it to me, plus I totally love your channel name. I’ve only recently realized that I was not the only person in the world who sat around thinking of bags and gadgets and pouches and things like this. So fun!!!

Only recently found your channel, I love it. Am 72 now but spent my working life as a (practical) engineer working all over the world. I had to carry a comprehensive tool kit, minimum size, minimum weight. It was a challenge. Colleagues used to scoff at my (toy) kit, but when a mechanical problem arose, I could usually solve it. PS I was instrumental in the structural monitoring systems of the Channel Tunnel, The Storebælt crossing, and Singapore 2nd crossing. Keep up the good work.

Nice set up. In fact it’s similar to one I already have. I have a Remington version of the one blade shaver which charges via USB using a short cable. I also use Old Spice (stick) antiperspirant which smells great so I don’t need to carry perfume/cologne on short breaks. As for floss, I take a 50m pack which I’ve read can be used as emergency cord for shoe laces, a clothes line etc (not that I’ve tried myself) and finally I use a Matador soap bar case that lets a bar dry and helps keeps down the smell of dirty laundry if you place it with your grubby gear with a nice bar of Lush soap.

Hi Jon, great video as always! I was thinking the same with you to use this Alpaka Zip Pouch Max as a toiletry pouch except I'm going to get the Arctic White colourway with Red lining! Been using the Peak Design Wash Pouch (which weights 250 grams) as an all-around toiletry pouch (sort of one stop toiletry pouch), I feel it's just too big to bring in my backpack. I tried to cut down the size and weight of my toiletry pouch by using lighter version the Bellroy Dopp Kit (which weights 132 grams) and NOW it gets even better if I decided to use the Alpaka Zip Pouch Max as my go-to toiletry pouch which only weights 99 gram! Thank you for convincing me to purchase this pouch. Greetings from Indonesia

BUG REPELLANT, Malaria (mosquitoes), Tick Borne Encifalitis (TBE) are just two of many bugborne KILLERS that are around even in large cities (got tick walking in paris) So I have some in all my kits (yes several sticks)

Then we have Dengue in France, West nile fever in multiple countries... so not only tropics. Also chikungunya, CCHD, TBE, Lyme disease (lyme borreliosis), tularemia... In short, bug borne diseases all over europe and US.

Thanks for the feedback, yes I like the Nite Ize option and did consider it - it is a tight fit if I include razor - as you will know it is flat and so fills very quickly - so would need another bag to go with it.

Great kit, thanks for sharing. And btw: great channel, found it just recently and am still going through the stuff ... ;-) I use since many years tooth powder instead of tooth paste, this old school habit reduces my luggage weight and I have less to put in the liquids bag. And tooth powder is highly multifunctional, e.g. one can clean very dirty/oily hands with it, use it for cleaning pots or polishing chrome parts at the motorcycle ,etc. As I wear my little remaining scalp hair very short I'm blessed with having no need at all for any shampoo in my kit, but if I would have to go for it I would use the shampoo given for free in the hotel or go out and purchase gnashingly some of the portioned shampoos available here in India. Means in every little corner shop here we get single portions of almost every liquid or gel item (like shampoo, jam, ketchup etc.) packed in little plastic sacs. Even dry items (e.g. coffee powder, dry fruits or other snacks, spices, washing powder and so on) are everywhere available in such super small and convenient portions, and astonishingly these small portions are in many cases even cheaper compared to purchasing the stuff in big jars or so.
