When I was a Girl Scout some 50+ years ago, one of the first projects we tackled before our first weekend in the woods was to lash together two plastic placemats with a section of newspaper sandwiched in-between. These “sit-upons” could be worn tied around the waist, where they would instantly be at the ready when we wanted to sit on a log, stone, or even the ground (shock!). My husband has had so many laughs over my recollections of the sit-upon, the “butt” of many a camp-gear joke, and now here’s Therma-a-rest with their own version! 😂 I’m a new-comer to your channel, JG. Thank you for all the great advice!

I don't think anyone really appreciate how comfortable that fold-up back pack actually is until you have tried it on - even better had to carry bulky/heavy loads in it. Osprey really knocked it out of the park with that one.

While I cannot get on board with a collapsible plastic water pouch, I will carry one of the Hydroflask trail series which are relatively light for a bottle and keep drinks cold or hot in excess of a day. I think you touched on this, but I use my Thermarest (like yours) pad in my packable patagonia tote to help provide some structure and padding. I also at times use an Eagle Creek folder panel, trimmed to the size of that same packable tote for some rigidity and it packs flat in my carryon. As for the Helinox chairs I can attest that they are wonderful. They make one specifically called the beach chair with wider plastic feet and they do not sink so much. They work really well on all surfaces to date. Another great one Jon! BTW, Light My Fire makes a really nice pressed wool utensil pouch with a snap. I have one set with Ti cutlery foe each of my packs and they are wonderful.
@jeremymote2382 ай бұрын

@GeekfromYorkshire2 жыл бұрын
Fellow gadgetman, I don't go along with any of your suggestions. I don't carry a chair but instead either a chair option for my sleeping mat, or a smaller sit tripod. I do often carry a folding foam sitmat, similarly use against my back inside daysack for rigidity and comfort but mine is folded a fraction of yours. I use an inflating sit mat sometimes as backpack reinforcement, puffing to fill and so stiffen the daysack. That aluminium spork will bend and fail, use a titanium one they last longer and yes cost more but over the lifetime is worthwhile, I use one with full spoon one end and full fork other end and a knife to side. As for (cough) the other topic I wrap traditional paper around something I don't expect to use and in a dry bag. For daysack if I didn't own anything your idea is fine but I instead use a non-waterproof daysack and a dry bag i have for downpours and the inflating sitmat combined to make a multipurpose comfy daysack.

Hiking and watching nature at ease:) For hikes and other adventures I have this 3 legged stool type sit that I enjoy, fairly lightweight, but comfy, small, and strong is my reasons. I love your video's Jon, however, it is now getting to the point that I start buying products at the end of them ......... My Titech titanium peanut lighter arrived on Tuesday, lighter-less I might add, Heinnie Haynes quickly sent out the insert along with a replacement kit (flint's, wicks) top notch service, my incharge-x cable was lost or stolen.......... Still not sure, on my second one now, any-way's, getting side tracked, couple of beer's in ......my question to you my friend, have you considered swapping the victorinox compact for a Swiss card, the main draw back being the blade size difference, I get how handy it is carrying the compact, but a version of the swiss card would fit nicely in that new bellroy card holder wallet and reduce the pocket weight (not that the compact is that heavy) just a half sozzled boy's thought
@JonGadget2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Stuart. I don't think the Card would match or stand up to the daily use of the compact - particularly the (bigger) scissors. Try cutting an apple in half with a Swiss Card knife 🤣

An alternative for the Z-seat is the Woolpower scrap wool seat pad, flat, affordable, light and perfect for sliding into a backpack bladder pocket. I carry mine in my daily backpack and it comes in handy, especially in the winter. The only downside is that if the ground/bench/rock is very wet it might leak through eventually. A bit of wool water proofing spray or wax on the bottom solves this.

Most interesting video, Jonathan...your vacation spot looks very pleasant & peaceful...I especially liked the Osprey bag...May I suggest you take a look at the suggestion made by "La Bella Esgrima" in the Comments for a product that she described that may be a complement to your "C" product...I know you want to pack very light, but would you carry some type of compact Lysol towels for cleaning & 2 sealable bags to tuck everything after cleanup for disposal, if needed?...perhaps also some type of compact "Wet Ones" for the utensils & hands... then put in a sealable bag after use till you can properly wash them so as to avoid the "drippy - tummy?" Times have changed...I never thought I'd see a product referred to in such a graphic way...can't see myself asking for it at a sales counter...btw & fyi, in Castillian Spanish, "C" refers to in general to the entire package, including the center point...although Spaniards & other Spanish speakers will refer to to the center point alone depending on the conversation...some non - Iberian Spanish speakers will also use the same phraseology above, but will call the "seat" "nalgas" and/or "cachas"....btw, "cachas" also means "scales" the red cellidor for example, that goes on SAK knives...I also enjoyed your self-depreciatory humor at the beginning of your section on personal hygiene, the one "immortalized" by Dominic as the sh***y segment... :))))) Good job!!

Jon when it comes to cleaning your Culo, how come you did not suggest Multi-Purpose 500Pcs/pack Compressed Towel Biodegradable Camping Wipes Toilet Paper Tablets, you just need water that you pour on it and voila you have a tough toilet paper to clean your you know what! Your Culo Clean cleans away with water but what about wiping it the compressed towels can do this so my choice would be the compressed towels more than the Culo Clean which reminds me of a bidet that we have at home. Again great video Jon, you are indeed the best. Love all your videos...you rock!

Hi John, Congrats for your channel! I see that you are focusing on travel, still in UK in this case. What about travels in Europe or even outside?! How do you carry your Victorinox Compact?! Personally, I carry my 58 mm rambler, as it meets flight control regulations at least in Europe, but in many countries, like Italy, the blade size does not matter and without good reason any blade should not be allowed by law. More in general it is a mess taking into account all the knife laws in the different countries. I would be curious to know your opinion. Ciao! 😁
