I pay the same for everything all included in a 1 bedroom apartment in Morelia. My place is pretty fancy with an epic view of the city, and I have a minisplit for heat/AC, though the weather is super nice and I mostly only use it for heat at night. I'm pretty stunned how expensive rents are now, though recently I've been looking around and you can find cheaper places in Morelia, too. I guess summer is the high season there, as the weather is super nice and cool all summer long, which is when I signed my one year lease. I also have the RO water in my place, and I appreciate it. I still don't totally trust it, though I'm sure it's perfectly safe, so I boil mine for good measure before putting it in a jug and filtering it further. Call me extra paranoid. My place is missing the included cleaning, so it's nice you have that. Otherwise, we're pretty darned comparable. Your cost for most things I think is pretty darned accurate. Garrafones, though, are usually about $100-150 if you don't have a container to exchange, but where I see it is only $40 pesos with exchange -- a pretty dramatic difference. I live in SF Bay Area. I pay $2,000 rent lettuce is $4 a head, eggs are $9 a dozen.

If I may ask, please: What did you do for a living / a job before you began You-tubing (back when you were with Jordan)? Jordan hinted that he worked in technology in one of the very early videos, but never stated how, or what he did in the technology field. We never knew what you did, either. Anyhow, if you wish to tell us, then by all means do. Knowing would be helpful, I reckon.

You've got a great price for your rental. I'm fortunate to have a little better situation due to some personal contacts. But, I also help them with construction when needed. Travel is getting much more expensive and I'm going to stay more sedentary this year than in the past. This has the added benefit of people being able to come visit me in Ajijic. Scheduling a return trip to visit my amigo in Corralejo GTO, and maybe a visit to Chiapas if I keep my expenses down.

I grew up in Ajijic in the 1980’s. It was very different than today. We rode horses to town to get tortillas. I miss that time. After my brother died (drowned in lake chapala), my family left. It breaks my heart to have left my brother there. That history of Ajijic is gone now.

It was in 1991, my brother thew a a stick off the pier for his dog to retrieve. The water was turbulent with waves and his dog was struggling to get back to shore. He dove in to help and hit his head on the rocks below. His dog survived and sat at the end of the pier for hours waiting for him. We, of course, took his dog to live with us.

Many people have been paralyzed, and some died-- when diving in by hitting their heads on something they didn't know was down there. That is just so sad! Wow, Maddie! I lived in Ajijic from late 2017 to late 2019 and, boy, have things ever increased in price, from water to electricity to food! I do think your rent is very reasonable considering how nice your apartment is and that it includes everything. Your monthly expenses are already pretty high now, so adding the expense of a car, from buying it to gas, maintenance and insurance is really going to bump up your monthly budget. As other fans of yours have said it's good to see you back bubbly and happy. We all love you.

Some people in Mexico joke that the cheapest thing in Mexico is the US dollar. Everything else is very expensive relative to wage levels. Transportation is really high because gasoline is more expensive than California and if you want to travel by car in addition to high gasoline prices you have to pay those sky high toll roads which in my opinion (And I am Mexican) is legalized highway robbery. All that in addition to the security issue we know about (cartels, kidnappings, and robberies).

I don't eat out much and I am a vegan so no meat costs and no alchol. I clean my own apartment and so far, no medical expenses. I have been in my apartment for about 3 years so that keeps that price down. Total expenses are $650 USD per month in Huatulco. I see that the rent prices are REALLY going up and I don't know anyone that pays as little as I pay even though I live in a fully furnished 3-bedroom apartment.

There is a Chinese herbal pharmacy in New York City that makes custom-made herbal formulas for the people I work with around the world and ship them directly to the patient. I can be anywhere in the world as long as I have internet and a phone. I use a Mexican phone but I use the open phone app so that I could keep my US phone number.

I pay $1200 for rent,$113 for cell phone, $164 for power, groceries are costly (feeding a family of 4) so I cook more often than eat out. Glad we don't have car payments. I think you did a very good assessment of living lakeside (I live in San Juan Cosalá) I live in the Raquet Club in a 2 bedroom duplex with quite a nice view for $1150US/month. The heated club pool is a real plus. Just a couple of things I think I do less expensively…my teeth cleaning (Dental Express) is only $10US & my massage therapist comes to my house for at least an hour & a half massage each month. She only charges $25, but I give her $30US because she’s so good! I know you’ve been to Viva Mexico in SJC because I saw you there a few years back, but since it’s not walking distance you may not come out this way too much, but just a reminder, their food is really good. They have raised prices too, but are still under most of the other places my friends & I frequent (we’re a bunch of single females, old enough to be your mother if not grandmother…about 6 of us are happily turning 80 last Fall or this Spring! Oh, & a glass of wine or margarita out here is only 70 pesos 😊 My kids were just here for a week (my older son introduced me to your postings back when you were here the first time.) I think he was hoping we might run into you every time we ate out in Ajijic, but alas… Keep up the good work & if you ever feel like chatting with some fairly spry old ladies, we’re usually at Viva Mexico on Sunday nights 👍 Nancy Green

What you spend in an entire month in Mexico for literally your whole life, I spend per month in Toronto on rent. Just rent. My utilities aren't included so I have to pay electricity, gas, water, sewage, garbage. Plus all the other expenses. So expensive to exist here

In Morelia, we have a beautiful 3 bedroom 3 bath home, costing $400 (USD)/month. Electricity is around $17 (USD), cell phones (2) $10 each, cable $15, gas $15, food $200 (USD). Cost of living here is very low at a total of around $650/mo. We are able to eat out often, and enjoy concerts and festivals easily on my SOCIAL SECURITY alone, with plenty leftover to save.

Monthly Expenses Aguascalientes, AGS, Mexico Water drinking 200MXN Water 360 - 500MXN Rent 13000 MXN 5 br, 2ba unfurnished, parking for 1 car. The house is a far larger than what desire, but it was available, and close to friends in a nice older barrio. Electricity 255MXN Natural Gas 316MXN Internet 449MXN So the housing/utility costs are about 15,000 Pesos or $835 USD (at 18MXM/1USD) Sad to say I have not tracked food prices, but they are better than what they were in Oregon. As to heating/cooling, all I have ever needed is a fan in the summer, so far, at 6,000 feet it does not need AC, but there are some days it would be a nice thing to have. Same goes for “winter” here, the locals are in heavy jackets, but I will be in tee shirts and shorts. There are cool days where a sweat shirt is good during the day and having a comforter on the bed at night.

Wow, that’s a great price Maddie for all inclusive and a whole apartment. I am in La Penita with a 2 room Bungalow; 8 bungalows in this building. I pay 10,000 pesos. One kitchen with cooktop only, no oven, microwave, toaster over, no kettle etc….. I see the ocean from my bed and hear the waves and am close to the main street. I spend 5 months here. This price is affordable for me as a solo but I miss a living room and a balcony to sit outside.

Gurl - I live in a city in Texas that USED TO BE affordable. You get to do sooooo much for that $1600 USD. That's my rent. And I wouldn't be able to afford it without a roommate. And after my other monthly expenses, there's no going out to eat 3x per week, and no traveling once a month, and no therapy, and no gym. It's bare bones over here. Mexico's looking pretty good! My home is my campervan, and cost of living as I travel around Mexico has been under $1,000 US per month. I mostly find places to camp for free, so accommodation cost is only about $60/mo for occasional RV park stays. The biggest expenses are food (around $400) and fuel (around $300 depending on how much I move). Other larger expenses are my US AT&T cell phone plan and Starlink satellite internet which are $50 and $60 a month respectively - both unlimited data. Living full time in a campervan in Mexico is a fun adventure.

Thank you for the information regarding how much it costs for you living in Mexico. I have a family so I can not compare on some of the costs. I used to live in an area that was low cost living. However now it has become so expensive. We have lived in our apartment for 5 years. The cost has changed 30% of what we originally paid. Praying for all people to have a job, home, food, clothing, electricity, clean water, clean laundry and love. Praying for you Maddie to find the right house, car, man, location to live and friends. I definitely agree about counseling. Hope you are doing well!!

I live in SANTA FÉ in Mexico City and the cost I pay for a nice, high rise with security and all the fancy amenities like gym, indoor pool, etc. 2 bed 3 bath, costs 32,000/month all bills paid (included housekeeping 1 a week(. The views I have are amazing f the sierras and it is very quiet BUT it ain't cheap by Mexico standards. But it is a good deal for the area.

My husband and I live in Chihuahua City, which is not a tourist or ex-pat destination. We live in a newly built home on the edge of town in the suburbs, with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, living room, dining, den with all kitchen appliances for $12,000 pesos ($600US) not furnished. However, I have seen in a few high-end neighborhoods; a 1 bedroom closer to Zona Centro and fully furnished going for $10,000. Utilities are about 3000 pesos for Internet, 1000 for water, 1200 for electricity and 400 for cell phone and we pay a local lavenderia to wash our clothes for 700/month or $30USD - saves us so much time and they come back nicely folded and smelling so clean! Haircut is 425 pesos (20US) and massage is about the same. Food has been about half of what we spent in the states.

hello Maddie! i love to watch your videos! i see myself identified with your. I am from Mexico but right now I am living in NC as a US citizen. I graduated college in Queretaro in 2004. I have left Mexico in 2006 bcause i married someone from the States. In 2017 i divorced and have decided to move back on Mexico and I did returned to live in Queretaro found a job but still was feeling like I was making more money in the US than in Mexico. In 2019 I returned back to the US and see that I make more money in the US and have a better quality of life here in NC. Anyaways you can find cheaper ways to live for the doctors you can always go to the pharmacy doctors, and the local market is where you can find the cheaper and fresher goods. My mom lives in Mexico but I am so thankful to God and my dad My dad got her very well covered with medical insurance from the company he used to work. My dad passed in 2000. But she gets good medical care from his company. She is 81. I work in IT and I have seen you make better money here in that field than in Mexico. My dream is that may be I will be back down there. But honestly right now I am so happy here, I just love the nature, and seeing that everything is better I feel a lot of more Freedom. I don't know it is just the perspective from my view...

I enjoyed this video, Maddie. It was really informative. I have lived in Merida, Yucatan for the past 3plus years. My rent for a one bedroom, older casita(about 400sf), partially furnished, hit & miss hot water, not remodeled, but with a huge yard full of trees & plants in a walled property with 3 other casitas, 1 1/2 miles to monumento de la patria, is $4500MX per month. This includes water(not purified) & gas. Our rent has gone up by $1000MX in the past year. You're doing a great job, on your own. Kudos

@@Intense_Cloud I'm not aware of a rental, with kitchen, currently. My landlord has a large room rental with AC, xtra large bathroom, seperate entrance. I believe there is a fridge & microwave in the room, & she puts a small plastic table & chairs in said room, all utilities included, with the understanding that AC be used sparingly. I'm not sure how much she's charging, but $2,500-3,500 is what I've understood. Landlord speaks perfect english. If this interest you, respond here.

I love your ability to speak fluently and quickly. Nice rental. I pay $2200 for 625sq ft in WA next to the ocean and the Peace Arch to Canada. We have an in house Pub with free Happy Hour bottled wine and 3 beer taps. We have: an indoor saltwater pool house and jacuzzi, dog park, theater room with popcorn, latte machine in computer room, garages, card and pool rooms, daily in-house office and maintenance staff, woodworking shop, craft room and outings to plays, boat trips, cruises, potlucks, karaoke nights, lots of holiday and birthday cakes, you get the idea:)) Everything is included: internet, cable TV, electricity, water, full size washer/dryer, A/C, garage disposal, and trash pickup. That is a great rent price for Ajijic, Maddie, but I couldn't live on what I have in SS with that kind of rent. I'd have to go to a place like Puebla or Cuernavaca where the price for what you have would be about $500/month, or less depending on where you live in the city. Ajijic used to be SUPER cheap until the Americans started moving in, and the prices started going up until many Mexicans were priced out of their own towns. Sad, really.

I've seen some 2 bedrooms for around $550/month. If one hunts, they can find them. The difficulty with many people who get social security, they don't make enough $ to qualify for residency.

I live in southern Mexico on the Pacific coast (not going to say where exactly). My total cost for living here in a studio apartment that came semi-furnished is $900 USD/$1,200 CAD per month. That includes... - Food, both eating at home and going out to eat (mostly street food). - Electricity. - Water, including drinking water. - Laundry - Going out a couple times a week for a couple of beers and snacks. - One excursion to some local attraction. * Not included is money for pharmaceutical items or medical insurance.

I live in West Ajijic and have a large one bedroom with a washer and dryer. All bills are paid except for gas and drinking water and I pay 12,000 pesos a month. I'm lucky! Great video. As always. Thank you for your work!

It's easy to cut corners when your traveling by packing your own meals, bringing your own hot plate or small coffee pot with you and cooler. You would be surprised how much money you save in food. Choose one major meal to eat instead of 3.

Great video as always Maddie! That is a great deal for that lovely apartment you have especially for being in Ajijic. I have a home in a town next door to Ajijic/Chapala. It is Ixtlahuacan de Los Membrios. It is a small Mexican town with not much going on, but real estate is very affordable. I have a three bedroom townhouse condo in a very nice community. The common grounds include an in ground pool, picnic area with bbq grills, gazebo and plenty of paved area for a nice gathering. When I bought it, completely furnished, I paid $140K USD. The HOA fees run about $340 US a year, taxes are $120-130 USD a year. Electricity was around $15-20 USD every 2 months. I am not sure what a decent rental would run in Ixtlahuacan a month. Like I mentioned before there isn’t much to do here, but Ajijic/Chapala are only 10-15 minutes away by car and Guadalajara about 30 - 40 minutes away buy car. There was article in the Guadalajara Reporter (I think that was the name of the newspaper) that this town may be the next upcoming expat haven. I am back in the US, but I will be returning next week and looking forward to it.

4 years ago, I lived in Ixtlhuacan! I paid 90 USD for a small place about 5 blocks from the plaza. It was unfurnished. I used to go to the lake frequently by bus. If you don't live in the towns where most of the gringos go, you can easily rent for VERY cheap. The bigger cities are also more expensive.. I've lived in Mazatlan, Santa Cruz, Nayarit, Guadalajara and now Morelia..I pay 350 USD for a totally newly remodeled apartment (half of a duples) and it's in a very good area. All utilities are included with fiber optic wifi. This city is probably not good for anyone who does not speak Spanish as the English speaking population is very small.

Honestly I haven't taken the time to figure out a budget for a long while now... believe it or not I find it comforting to know that you get "all of that" for a Very reasonable price! I have thought of living alone for a while now... but the idea of not being able to share expenses is a pretty big one! As you said when you split the cost of a trip it goes down a lot especially if you can split it more than two ways! I have done trips, some lengthy, where the cost of everything is split 3-4 ways among friends and it's great!! Hawaii for example ... getting a condo alone can be quite spendy but splitting the cost 4 ways makes it MORE fun and Much cheaper! Thanks again for this report! In Merida, (Caucel) We pay $9,500 for an very nice single floor, two bedroom house with a large back yard in an nice development called Gran Sante Fe. Non-furnished/no utilities. Biggest expense (Understandably) is Air Conditioning. We have lived in Cancun, Leon, and Vallarta. Moved back to the USA five years ago so I could do a Walk Across America. After that, we just lived in an van for four years and traveled the US. Now back in Mexico permanently.

Very informative vid Maddie! My guy and I still dream of moving to Mexico when we retire, we are 62. Yes, prices are higher now. I liked this vid because I, own my own rented an apt. In Frankfort, KY, about 30 miles from Lexington KY last March. Reason being that Lexington Ky rent ballooned to $1000 per mo. For an unfurnished apt. Not even an a fully equipped apt. In a safe place. So my unfurnished apt in Frankfort is $835, water, sewer and trash is extra, bringing my total rent to $892. No pool, the apartments are older. I did get an upgraded apt with new appliances. I bought my own washer and dryer as they are not provided. I pay $50 for internet and do not have cable TV. I pay extra gasoline for my car because I go to Lexington and back each day. I say you have been wise in your choices. Your apt., being furnished and utility inclusive is very reasonable for the city you live in. I am moving back in with my fella in April. He owns a 3 br townhouse in Lexington. They have home owners fees, I will pay those quarterly, about $300 per mo. And we will split some other costs. We are no longer sure about moving to Mexico, we may not qualify due to the new visa rules regarding income. But I am glad you keep us updated on cost to live there.

Some people are paying around 1500-2000 dollars for rent in Mexico City in regular mid class neighborhoods, let me give you an advise, high class neighborhoods like Interlomas or Santa Fe in the city have luxury apartments sometimes for that same amount. Give it a try!

I agree. Major medical with 100% coverage and no deductible cost $110/mo (Except in the U.S.) This is the highest cost for older people. For you, it is probably half this price.

That seems pretty spot on. My wife and I come down to Guadalajara every winter for 6 weeks (currently here now, but leaving for snowy Michigan in a week.) Ooh that conversion rate is NOT making me happy right now!! Volaris is a decent airline for flying within Mexico and I've heard you can join their club and receive 1 domestic flight per month, just pay taxes and fees (heard about it from QRoo Paul) and an INCREDIBLE app I use for yoga is called Down Dog. (Try it, you won't regret it!!) I live in Oaxaca in Colonia Reforma, a nice neighborhood about a 20 minute walk from Centro. (All prices using current conversion rate of about 18.8 pesos to $1 USD) I got lucky with my 2 bed furnished apartment with all services for: $8,300 pesos per month (~$440 USD) I drink about 3 garrafones of water per month which is delivered to my house for $108 pesos (~$5.75 USD) I got braces put on ($8,500 pesos initial payment - ~$450 USD) and my monthly orthodontist visit costs $1,500 pesos (~$80 USD) I spend about $2,000 pesos on food per month (much more if I go to the super instead of the market 😬😬) (~$106 USD) And my laundry is about $200 pesos per month (~$11 USD) Everything I need is within walking distance plus my boyfriend has a vehicle (although we don't live together aka I pay all my own bills) so I rarely spend money on transportation My phone bill and some other expenses like a loan and credit card payments are all tied to the US So overall within México for my necessities I'm spending around $12,000 pesos per month.... another $10,000 for eating out and activities so around $22,000 pesos or about $1,200 USD (at current conversion rate) living a comfortable life in Oaxaca, Mexico! Hope this info helps others that are interested in living in Mexico and wondering about the costs!! ☀️

A 1BR apartment (unfurnished) in the Austin area starts around $1335/month plus utilities. Adding up everything else would at least double that and likely triple that.

Cost of living solo in Zapopan, Jalisco near Galerias Mall: Monthly expenses in MXN: Rent : 00 because I own a condo. HOA fees (mantenimiento) : 1,300.00 Electricity: 75.00 Water: 100.00 Gas: 150.00 Internet: 749.00 Phone: 200.00 Groceries/Household items (from Walmart usually): 3,000.00 Car Insurance: 1,000.00 Medical Insurance (MetLife) for high cost treatments, emergency surgeries, ER visits, etc: 3,000.00 Gasoline: not a lot because I work from home: 1,000.00 Restaurants, coffees (favorite is Pastriva), etc: 5,000.00 (includes treating Mexican girlfriend, which is expected here). Total Monthly Expenses: $15,075.00 MXN (or $856.70 USD based on today's exchange rate) not counting platform subscriptions such as Netflix, and not counting trips or clothing. There is no gym membership because I work out at Parque Metropolitano and at home.

I pretty much have the same expenses but instead of rent I’m paying for my house a couple of pesos more but transportation looks so cheap for you I have a car that gives me 17 k/l in average going out at least twice a week and even that it’s was expensive that public transportation I still spend around 4000 pesos on the car so consider that in your search for a car because you pretty much have to pay the casetas everytime you go out and that isn’t cheap

For comparison's sake: We rented a very nice furnished two bedroom house with a courtyard on the outskirts of San Cristobal de las Casas in 2022 for $15000 pesos per month, including electricity and internet but excluding gas for cooking and hot water, and water - both general supply (from a truck that filled the cistern) and drinking water from garrafones. It was a great place that is usually an AirBnB at a much higher rent, but we negotiated for longer term rental of 6 months. Of course, if it had been in the centre of the city it would have been considerably more.

BTW, the major cost saving categories I have found are labor and food. After we moved here we decided we had to increase our housekeeper's and our handyman's daily wages because we thought they were unacceptable. The "hombre de mil usos" has become an excellent friend and resource for cultural information from prices goods and services to police dealings.

Great video Maddie, my cost of living is pretty similar in Guadalajara. We're a family of 3, so you could substitute your travel costs for the school fees we have to pay, which are 9000 mxn a month. We spend 1000 mxn at the tiangui or Mercado each week, buying fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. We only go to the supermarket to buy bread and milk. Our gas costs are a lot greater, about 2000 mxn a month. Our 3 bedroom house is 20000 a month, but fortunately, my wife's work pay that.

Nice video. Moved to Aguascalientes,Aguascalientes about 8 years ago. . Loved the international fair they have in May here. Last year they had a free concert for Steve Aoki. Cost of living has gone up. Currently pay in peso 400 internet / house phone with international call. 300 water 300 electric every other month. Cleaning 3 times a week 600 a week. No rental, paid home.

At my current place, there's a garage but the woman in the apartment above me has it rented. So I'll unfortunately have to park on the street but thankfully it's decently wide and not heavily trafficked. Gas is about 21-22 pesos per liter ($4.24 - $4.44 USD per gallon) but it depends on where you are in the country
