Picked up a 28 inch Browning 28 ga two years ago largely because they were often the only shells on the shelf during covid in the States, Shot some sporting with it but I have found that is was perfect for skeet when I took that up just a few weeks ago. At 6 lb 14 oz and shooting 3/4 oz 7 1/2 through skeet and skeet, it is an absolute joy and makes me look like i know what I'm doing. I understsnd your enthusiasm!

Be careful! 28 ga addiction is no joke!!! I succumbed years ago I am afraid I only mention it in order to save the unwary! Once you discover 28 ga, you will find yourself slipping towards oblivion because good 28 ga guns are pricey! I have a Caesar Ellipse, a Browning Citori, a Fausti Dea Duetto 28/410, a Connecticut RBL, a Ruger Red Label, Remington 1100-28 and a Parker from 1899! ALL in 28 ga. Someone save me!

I’m a huge fan of the 28 ga.. K-80 with 32 inch 28 ga barrels, 8.75 pounds, is great on clays with very little recoil, and people are surprised at the little shells. The full size gun allows a true comparison across gauges. I reload, so ammunition is a little cheaper than 12 ga.. In the field, my Benelli semiautomatic is easy to carry, yet effective on grouse and woodcock, and with tungsten I am told can handle ducks and even geese. All this is in America, so may not translate into English. Great channel. Thanks

I shot a 28 bore for years and it was definitely my gun of choice. The joy of handling a SxS 29” barrelled straight hand box lock ejector built in 1909 by Stephen Grant is something to behold. A rare piece and deadly.

Great collaboration between Rizzini and William Powell. I like the solid ribs and non-selective safety. Reasonable price for the quality. If I didn’t have a BR550 Round Body 28ga then this. Now that I shoot only ruffed grouse and woodcock in eastern Canada 28ga is all I need. Average 20 yards max 30 yards. Loads from 17g to 28g with cylinder and 1/4 choke does it all. I believe the original 2½@ 28ga load was ⅝ ounce or about 18g. I have purchased outdoor clothes and kit from William Powell; great service and fast shipping.

I don't remember seeing 28ga in (Western) Canada when I was a kid. Are they newish in Canada? Or were they always a thing east of the Great Lakes? (I live in the UK now)
@Beccaccia2810 ай бұрын
@@kristiangustafson4130 Not newish in Canada. I also had never heard of the 28ga as a kid and for many years after. My first 28ga was a Bernardelli Roma 6 28ga from Giovanni Gun Store in Toronto about 25 years ago Not common now, but maybe as or more common than 10ga and 16ga. Ammo was available way back; I have some old Imperial paper loaded in the 70's and some CIL Canuck paper loaded I guess around the 50's.

Hi great review. Once you start shooting one its the only gun you want to use. I started shooting a 28 bore some 15 years ago. Im that hooked I got Longhorn to make me one Number D003 first one off the production line. I love it. I load my own shell and this season shot TSS and for me I had some great days. The Shell is a 20 gram loaded with 6grams of 10s first with 14 grams on top. The gun is choked 3/4 3/4. TSS is not cheap but home loading them i can make them for £1.50 each. Regards Alan Robinson

Looks a superband very pretty gun with limitations for the right application.On the question of choke I always wondered why some were so far removed as in 1/4 and Full.Personally prefer same chokes in both tubes.Guessing this gun fires bottom barrel first ? as non selective.Like to use top barrel first in an O/U as easier to reload in a hurry.

From my experience, 1/2oz or 3/4oz loads are perfect for a 28 gauge, depending on firearm and the shooter. I agree, 1oz is over stuffing, and guarantee that the 3" shells are pretty much a waste in my opinion. They offer nothing, but higher cost and more recoil, for a worse pattern. Now you have the 20 gauge syndrome, of flattening shot and getting flyer pellets at a constant. In my experience hunting, 28 gauge and 16 gauge are the best shotguns out there. I honestly think you need to play with a few true 16 gauge guns with 1oz loads and 1 1/8oz loads. Do a pattern test even, you will be amazed that 16 is indeed the king. But 28 gauge is pretty damn good for a small bore. Just wish more versatility in ammunition was available. It doesn't sell in Canada because of it.
@rupertgodfrey26710 ай бұрын
I've shot 75000 wood pigeons with my Miroku 28 bores (weighing 6 3/4 lbs), so can write from experience. I always use 28g loads, with Gamebore Regal being favourite (sadly, the fibre wad shells just aren't as effective). With Modified choke, the pattern is superb out to 55 yards, but if the woodies are decoying (ie often within 25 yards), this pattern can damage the birds badly, as it's pretty tight close in; with improved cylinder, to 40 yards.

How do you shoot what we Americans call skeet with a single shot. Our best ranges have at least 5 clays
@lanceirvin77159 ай бұрын
Sporting that is. Competition is double barreled mostly over and under. Amazing
@CaptainRon51310 ай бұрын
A study years ago by Winchester deduced the 28 and 10 bore are the most optimum bores...When I was competing seriously in American skeet I only shot the 28 bore for doubles, 12 bore, 20 bore and 28 bore events due to the fact my 28 bore average waa very close to 100% and my 12, and 20 averages were less...I keep telling you Johnny if you want to shoot comparable scores in the sub bores have barrels made to fit your Longthorne that weigh and balance the same as your 12 bore barrels

I'm currently reading Bob Bristers book, Shotgunning the Art & Science, & yes Bob mentions Winchesters findings regarding the 10 & 28 bores. I believe Bob was heavily involved in the testing himself.

My dream is to be able to buy either an OU or SBS shotgun in 28ga with the capability to change the barrel and caliber to either .410 or 20ga (I believe some of the Rizzini shotguns are able to do this). My greatest problem however is that it is pretty much impossible to obtain any sort of lead free ammunition and/or loading components for the 28ga and .410 (i live in Norway).
@DaveThomspon8 ай бұрын
When you shoot your O/U which barrel do you use first? It looks like you use the top barrel? We have been told the bottom barrel is first. What are your thoughts?
@zzp110 ай бұрын
With a scattered right shoulder, that never came right, my options are quite limited. So, a 28 would perfectly suit me.
@ValMartinIreland10 ай бұрын
The shot column should be no more than 10% longed than the bore diameter if good patterns are to be achieved. The 28 gauge at that load would be only a bout 5/8 ounces. That would restrict range to 25 yards.
