Beautiful specimen! Great to see it setting lots of fruit too! It's a shame you don't have space for it, if I lived nearby I would definitely have been interested in it.

Thanks, Peter. Yes, this really is a very nice specimen. Lots of signs of fresh new growth, healthy roots bursting from the bottom and lots of embryo fruit. I've become a real fan of this McDill variety. Yes, it's a shame I don't have space for it but I've decided I need to sell off many of my duplicates before I go to Europe to buy a bunch more. LOL.

It has an abundance of fruit on it! These seem to fruit prolifically, and the fact that my Mc Dill (Mc Dud?) has NEVER flowered- not even once- leads me to suspect that Canarius sold me a seedling. I need to get hold of a grafted Mc Dill from a reliable supplier. I am so keen on trying out the fruit for the first time.

Yes, these really are prolific fruit bearers. From my reading, White Sapotes are supposed to bear fruit twice a year. The specimen I featured in a video recently, with the large fruit, is also flowering and setting fruit again. Canarius can be problematic. In fact, buying from any online nursery can be a gamble. I think you'll love the fruit, Gary. It's one of those fruits that everyone would enjoy, tatses like creamy Pear Flan with vanilla, zero acidity, just unctuous, rich goodness .. and the bonus of having a fruit bearing tree is the seeds you get. Hopefully I'm able to bring a bunch more of these plants in.

@@MoebiusUK If the taste is anything like a fresh graviola/soursop (which I've tried before), I'd absolutely love it!

Its a superb plant now Dom, a great size and looking very healthy, somebody will be delighted to have that. Thankfully mine is growing back most of its leaves so should look back to normal again by mid August 🤞

Cheers, Brett. It is a nice specimen. They're wonderful plants and after tasting the fruit I now want to explore a few different varieties. It's very encouraging that yours is recovering nicely after defoliating. I think they're quite resilient. In fact, when I get my allotment, I will be putting one in-ground. With a pop-up tent during the cold season, I have a feeling these will be fine.

@@MoebiusUK I think they would do great on an allotment near you Dom! I don't think I could get away with it up here though lol 😂. Maybe with the same protection I gave my clementine this past winter in my garden.

@@PeterEntwistle I think the good thing about grafted plants is that they can fruit and flower at a relatively small size. This allows for the possibilty of keeping them small and using pop-up tents. They're supposed to be a hardy as citrus, although I would want to protect them a bit. Yeah, no doubt here in London it's a little less harsh over winter than your locale ... but if you're prepared to cover it up when the temperatures dip, it might be possible, Just don't do it with your only specimen. 😂

@@MoebiusUK lol, yeah I'd definitely have to propagate a couple onto seedlings before risking planting one lol 😂

Simply a magnificent plant Dominic. Like you my garden is jammed packed, so anything that is not growing well for me has got to go to free up space. I have 3 white sapote seedlings that has scarcely grown since I got them, AND I have already agreed to acquire a grafted white sapote from someone else next month, otherwise I would have jumped at the chance at acquiring your specimen. In fact, it is yours and Brett’s success that got me interested in the white sapote as a contender for growing in my garden and overwintering in my greenhouse.

Cheers, Mike. Yes, we have to be circumspect about which plants we choose to accomodate in small city-gardens. I also have several seedling White Sapote but I think purchasing a grafted one works out better value for money. It fruits earlier and the seeds can then be used to grow new plants. I'm pleased that we both can inspire eachother. I'm sure your future grafted WS will be a great success.

Are you selling it? I'd have it, but I have no means of getting to London right now. Could you possibly partially remove soil around the root ball to reduce weight and ship it? Or is it too bulky?
@MoebiusUK3 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm selling this specimen . It's a gorgeous plant and even larger than the one I'm keeping. It is too large to ship and with roots poking out the bottom of the 30L container it wouldn't make sense removing soil. I hope to revisit the 2 nurseries selling Vernon and McDill (probably in September) and aim to collect as many as I can. They're smaller specimens but from my experience, seem to produce fruit in a year ... *If need be, I'll drive to you to deliver,
