We had 2 ten year old cats when we brought home our GSD puppy. The cats were less than impressed and never really bonded with Archie. So when he was about 18 months we got him his own kitten so he’d have a friend. It worked out perfectly, they are inseparable

We had friends w 2 older cats & 2 dogs. They had had babies 3 years & 1 year respectively before out first was born, and the cats had been wary of the babies. When we first visited them after our son's birth, we walked in & the cats froze and stared at the baby, and then with a look that clearly said 'Oh my G.od they've brought another one home!', they tore out of the room to their favorite hiding places. Hilarious!

Older cats/older dogs don’t usually get along. That’s just their instincts. They see another big animal coming in as an intruder. So they either avoid them, or attack. That’s why they always say to socialize them as much as possible when they’re kittens and puppies.

Same thing when I was a kid. We had 2 older cats around 8 years old. We got a GSD puppy, and the cats did not like him. They took turns slapping him around from the diner chairs. Eventually, they got real territorial and started peeing all over the house. So we had to hive them up

Mama cats always wash their babies several times per day. It’s part of their instinct to put their own scent on the kittens, and it also serves to teach the kittens how to wash themselves. I have always owned cats and used to foster families like these: they are chronic groomers! lol

The golden was going, "Squeeee!" in doggo the entire time. The GS had to do an extensive evaluation over whether the small, squirmy things were in breech of the perimeter, but determined that they were non-enemy combatants in neutral territory. And also dey kinna kewt. 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈

It's funny to watch breeding at work here. The retrievers have very retriever reactions: the first is like "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! We are now the bestest friends EVER!!!!" And the second one is like: "Play? No, they're boring. Play wit dis." And ge shepherd is immediately like: "Who are you, what is your business here and shall I count thee friend or foe!?" Lol
