My 3" drone is better than your 5" FPV freestyle quad...prove me wrong!! // Bacon's B3AST 3" Build

Жыл бұрын

The B3AST has been unleashed, and I am willing to bet that this little 3" freestyle FPV drone rips harder than most 5" freestyle builds out there! This micro sized quad is packing full 6S power on large 2004 sized motors with a full high output DJI digital system, 4K recording, a 55A ESC, and all the range you could ask for out of an ELRS link. Good things do come in small packages, and this is one of them! Go down to the comments below and prove me wrong if you can after viewing the footage.
NOTE: Footage was shot using default Betaflight PID tune and almost no motion blur to show as much imperfection as possible.

lol, yeah I do love the sounds on a 5" that is true!!! I think this thing with an O3 in it is going to be a real sweet spot for size and capability. This could really be the future of FPV quads once the 250g limits start to matter more.

Bacon, bacon, and more bacon! Fantastic flight and vid! I’ve got a 2.5” with 1804 3500Kv and it one of my favorites to fly. Absolutely rips and can place it in the tiniest gaps. Only downside is no action cam on y 2.5”…might have to throw on a ThumbPro and see how it works out. I’m gonna build a 3.5 now with some spare 2004’s I’ve got. Keep those vids coming BaconNinja! I power cycle it and it works perfectly again. Very annoying when freestyling as we occasionally hit small branches/twigs or hit grass and try to recover. When one of two of your motors shuts off during flight it's impossible to recover. None of my many other quads ever did this. Same km55 esc you put in yours. Did you run into this issue too?

So, if you get the correct KV of motor then technically it should be able to handle it. The only down side is that you will feel the sag earlier. the AOS will be a great platform for a similar build! I think going up to a 3.5" would still have me running on the 2004 motors at the same 3000kv on 6S. Newer to FPV. Currently I have a 5 inch drone (Source One V5). Been debating what to build as my second and this Quadmula F3 is on the list. Is there a benefit to building this kind of 3 inch over a 5 inch other than weight restrictions? Does it feel similar to a 5 inch when flying?
@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV Жыл бұрын
I think having a small little quad like this in your fleet is a great idea. It gives you the freedom to run smaller spots or places where you really don't want to upset people who may be within earshot of the quad. 5" is a great platform and gives you tons of power in the right configuration, but they are just larger and noisier than you want sometimes. As for flight feel, this particular 3" does feel more like a 5" in that its thrust to weight ratio is almost the same. That does however mean that this one is a little heavier than most 3" quads and just barely stays at 250g without the runcam orange on top. There is a small benefit to staying under 250g as well if you are in the US since after the September remote ID deadline you wouldn't have to run a module on it :)

@BaconNinjaFPV
@BaconNinjaFPV 10 ай бұрын
yeah this one is not the kind of flight time, that is for sure! I will say though, this thing has enough umph with the big motors and stout frame to haul around a 1300mah 6S pack and get 12-15 minute flights if you wanted to :) As for different motors, getting the flight time up would likely require quite a bit of overhaul on this build to get the weight wayyyy down. I decided to keep it heavier and take the shorter flight time to better achieve the fling of a bigger quad rather than give up some durability and flight characteristics for a more efficient setup. I also get 3 minutes on my 5" builds with the way I fly them, so 3 minutes was kinda right in my zone of normal, lol.

That is true! You can't beat physics, no matter how hard you try, lol. The goal of this one wasn't to get the exact fling, carry, or float down to what a 5" does, but more so to get the same feel in a smaller package scaled appropriately. It doesn't fling as far, but the scale of the fling is just about right for what a 5" would be if you shrunk it down without feeling like you are flying a toothpick. It makes small flying spots feel pretty darn good! :)

@BaconNinjaFPV Жыл бұрын
what does the all up weight look like on your quad and what kind of props are you going to be running on it? When it comes to those two choices, since they are both 3800kv, the props will really be spinning at the same speed either way so they will both top out around the same place (with a little variation). What it really comes down to is the difference in stator size and height. There is only about a 3% difference in the stator size between the two, but the taller one will have more low end torque if you are running really high pitch or heavy props.
