I do change my rates between racing and freestyle. For freestyle I like a max rate of 720 with tons of expo, and for racing it's a max of 500 degrees. I decided on them by feel and one day I overlayed the curves on a graph and realized the bottom half of the curve was identical on both rates. So center to half deflection is the same on both, with freestyle I only really go past that to do snap rolls so there's more expo. but for racing the longer throws is used to do tighter turns so I like it more linear

Great video!! It’s interesting because I’ve heard that a few top pilots prefer more roll compared to pitch and yaw because as you get faster, the drone is at a much higher angle and pitch is more of a priority in that scenario. Either way, I agree that we need to keep them the same :)

100% agree, never change your rates (except if you find an issue like you said about having to go faster) And if anyone wants to try something different here is Kittycat betaflight rates 🙀 Pitch/Roll; RC Rate = 0.97 Super Rate = 0.68 Expo = 0.0 Yaw: RC Rate = 0.73 Super Rate = 0.4 Expo = 0.0 This is in the 600deg range for pitch and roll while yaw is at 240ish, so why is the yaw rate so gosh darn low? Well, as a racer you will spend basically most of your time barely touching yaw and only using it for very minor corrections so having a lower yaw rate will help you not overshoot your yaw moves. Early on this REALLY improved my times around tracks and made me feel alot more confident! So even if you are not going to run my specific rates i would recommend you to at least try having your yaw rate be low as shit to see if you get the same confidence boost i (and many others) did 👍 Oh and once again, great video Evan! Love the tip from sky too about that you should be using the full range of your gimbals 😊

This is a significant topic of discussion. I understand that, at the end of the day, it ultimately comes down to the pilot's preference. On another note, do you think having a higher yaw rate helps minimize disturbances to the throttle when applying yaw during maneuvers?

@@headsupfpv Actual 1080 roll, pitch, 920 yaw with .35 expo
@michaelfredricks228616 сағат бұрын
I greatly prefer Actual rates. Its much easier to hone in on what works best for you. Center stick sensitivity and max rate. Expo alters the transition between them. Betaflight rates its hard to figure out what changes actually do. And they influence each other. Change one and you are also influencing the other. What rates work well for you can be very individual. Just because a teenage top pilot uses a certain set of rates doesn't mean they are ideal for you! Actual rates makes it easy to experiment.

I do love this about actual rates, Interesting!

The best rates are the ones you can close your eyes, imagine a move and replicate it on the sticks, open your eyes and the drone did exactly what you imagined. Kinda the same thing you are talking about "gut" flying.

I slightly disagree. I use different max rates for freestyle vs. cinematic/racing (700/700/550 vs. 550/550/400) because I absolutly need the higher rates for snap moves while its wasted stick-travel for precision-flying. My center/expo (80/0.3) is the same for all kinds of flying. It only cought me off guard one time when I did a Rubik's cube on a lifter after toying with a freestyle rig but sane people wouldn't do such thing anyways.

What settings should I use for THROTTLE MID and THROTTLE EXPO?
@Greg__KКүн бұрын
Probably none. Motors and props will fluctuate throughout their "power band" and also when you get battery sag. I've tried setting the mid point to 0 and then using a little expo, like 10-20%, but in the end I felt more consistent without it. This is for racing or freestyle. If you're doing cinematic shots with the same drone, then using a curve might be worth it, but anything outside of that I wouldn't recommend.

@headsupfpvКүн бұрын
I have never tried messing with FF too much, but to my understanding rates are still rates and the position of the stick will indicate to the drone the rotational acceleration (if that’s even a word) to have in any direction. But I may start tinkering with this!
@maddercatКүн бұрын
@@headsupfpv The way I understood it when I found these rates is ff is basically like a computer mouse acceleration, the faster you move your stick the more it will multiply your actual rate.
