I'm new to your channel. I've always been fond of Slingerland and used them for years. Recently I became obsessed with Vintage Ludwig drums. Found a 70's ludwig classic on Reverb which I haven't received yet. 3 months ago I went to Guitar Center and played and listened to both chrome over Aluminum and the chrome over brass and fell in love with the LM 402. I vote for your Vintage LM 402 I think it sounds the best. Thank you so much for your channel. I have learned so much about my all time favorite drummer and your videos are teaching me how to play Bonham licks and chops. I aspire to play as well as you do someday. I appreciate you and what you share to so many of us !

I’m answering my own questions as I watch. I first noticed u use vintage costed ambassador on the black galaxy and a vintage coated emperor on the ‘68 402, which tells me u chose the lighter, more resonant head on the painted drum to compensate some lack of resonance. And of course, the VC emperor on the chromed shell. I get it. That’s useful info. Ty!❤️😎

3 great snares. Interestingly I gig with a 5in Blackrolite with my Black sparkle classic maple kit. I also have a black beauty, but prefer the blackrolite. I wish U coykd send a pic as thr kits look so similar. Of your 3 snares, I think the 68 Supra the rim shots cut through, and the rolls sound clearer. Not a lot of difference between them. I tend use my BB at pubs and smaller gigs. Ambassador heads but 25 strand snares. Terry's 2As do a grand job. Thanks for going to the trouble of doing these video's. Fantastic playing. Hey George! I just watched this again and they all sound great, the Blackcrylite is warm, I couldn’t hear the nice overtones of the ‘68, which to me is the brightest, very nice, but the ~mid 70’s Ludalloy is warmer and pops nice and seemed to blend with the kick and toms the best. Take care…✌🏼

Hi George I think your playing is exceptional and right on the button has Bonhams feel! I love all three drums but for me the 70’s 402 with the 30 strand wires sounds the more authentic drum! If that drum was alloy and not brass it would sound spot on to Bonhams drum and even though drum no 2 sounded great tuning I think drum 3 wins ( tonally ) I had 42 strand on my 402 for a while but recently changed them for 18 strand wires and now you can hear the tone of the shell. I think Bonham mostly used 18 or 20 strand wires anyway. Love watching your videos George .... the best Bonham drummer I have seen! Cheers

@@BONHAMOLOGY hi George I don’t agree I’ve seen photos of Bonhams snare especially from MSG ‘73. His wires look either 18 or 20 strand. You can hear on certain recordings his 402 sounds more open and he would at times use the tone control to sound a little dryer. I think he mostly used 42’s on the ‘77 USA tour. But just making a point of what I’ve seen, heard and researched. I think Jason Bonham is great but you’re better! It’s about the feel and you have it 😍🥁🥁

GREAT video George! Well, well, well. It was between the BGA and the 1968 for sure. After going back and forth and back and forth and listening to it. I am going with the BGA. Why? It has a "depth" to it's sound that is not quite there with the 1968. But yet, it has a Black Beauty feel to it, but not as "dark" either. If you go back and listening to the album/CD version of "The Ocean" I would say it sounds like your 1968. However, if you go back and listen to the "Working Mix" version of "The Ocean" to me, it sounds like the BGA. Just my .02. Great drumming too George!

Do you have some exercises to develop this?

Really interesting video, especially with the inclusion of the COB, which I'm kinda fascinated about. I've a '69 Rogers COB Dynasonic which feels fantastic under the stick and you feel through your whole body when you're playing it. While sat on the stool I much prefer it to my Supraphonic, which I really feel comes into its own when heard from a distance away and mic'd up. I'm interested in your thoughts on how these feel under the stick and how they feel as you play them through your body as well as how they sound live to an audience and what difference there may be (if any)??
