i have 2018 silverado, and very similar set up. I caution u against using wheel spacers, I had my front passenger rim fall off during a turn, never ran spacers again. I recommend you update the rims with correct offset for your preferred stance. love the build

Never once had a problem with wheel spacers. I’ve had them on 4 trucks now towing with no problems. It’s a install or maintenance error

I’ve had tons of vehicles with spacers. No issues here.

@locoboy46 is correct! Spacers require tightening often and even if you tighten the lugs diligent they still will fail. Super Sketch!
@jlinkhart3 ай бұрын
Buy quality wheel spacers and use a torque wrench and loctite. 14 years and 150k miles and ive never had an issue. I have seen other people throw them on, not torque them, and had them loosen up. Seen more wheels do that without wheel spacers though, so it’s not a problem unique to wheel spacers, but to unproperly torqued lugs in general.

Be careful with wheel spacers on these trucks. They are known for the control arms to break when you start using them.

I love owning my own tire mounting machine and balancer.. Saves me so much time, (1 hour drive to and from to the nearest tire shop, not to mention the time it takes them to mount and balance the tires) no appointments needed, and most importantly, I can do the work and not mess up my wheel finish etc. The last straw before I got my setup was when I took them brand new wheels and tires (wheels in the box still) they scratched the crap out of the inside rim (they didn't have the rubber clamp protectors on) and put on pound on weights, when I asked for stick on weights because of the salt they put on the roads up here in the winter. Once you break that clear coat or finish the road salt just starts destroying both steel and aluminum wheels.. My machine has a bead blaster and multiple arms for doing low profile tires, They can be a pain with out the extra arms, but I have done some real "rubber bands" with no issues. But the basic 1 arm machines and a can of starting fluid can do pretty much everything.. I do recommend rim clamps, there plastic clamps that you slap over the rim and it pushes that side wall into the groove on the rim for you , Its like having extra hands. They can be found on amazon for cheap... If you figure it out, my setup cost me about $2500 plus consumables (wheel weights, bead lube, etc.) so once I mount about 24 set of tires.. its paid for... We swap all seasons for snow tires every year up here for winter so it wont take long to pay for it self just on my own families tires. I have done everything from 25 series low profile tires to 37" mud tires with no problems, beside lifting those 125 lbs 37" mud tires off the machine.

truck looks good! the spacers are actually what's causing the rub. if you went with a smaller spacer like 1" or 3/4" even it would probably go away. i work at a GMC dealership and we run into it a lot. the GMC's have smaller wheel openings than their Chevrolet counterpart. Overall looks good tho 👍

Throw spacers on there means you don't like the paint and want worse gas mileage. There is also the possibility that the tires will clear without the spacers. Otherwise it looks good

Two inches in either direction won't matter for that tire making contact. He can probably shift the control arm a bit forward to fix it or maybe a body lift.

Great job as usual. I know others have said it, but make sure you retorque those spacers regularly. Especially after the first few miles. You just need to torque them a few times in the first few weeks and then check them once a month of so to see if they loosen up. They always loosen up a bit but you will be able to tell how often to retorque them after a couple of times doing it and seeing how much they loosen up. You look happy doing this one and the pontoon, keep it up.

A word of caution running spacers. I have a 16 GMC just like that. Mine had 9700 miles when I bought it, I installed 2" wheel spacers right after purchase and at 94k miles both my upper ball joints were wore out. Consider upgrading them while you're working on it and hopefully you see this before you get another alignment lol. Awesome job rebuilding the truck. Keep up the good work!

Great work as usual…your knowledge base is expanding. I think you should ditch the 35’s and the 2” extensions. You shouldn’t have to modify the wheel well to accommodate bigger tires. I looked up the law in Florida because I was curious about whether or not tires that extend beyond the body are even legal. To my surprise it only mentions something about tires can’t block any vantage point for other vehicles. It’s illegal in many states. Either way it’s a bummer for cars trailing in the rain. Extended tires throw so much water out that isn’t contained inside the fender like it was designed. When vehicles are first licensed in Florida, do they require an inspection? Where I live we have annual inspections and a cracked windshield would be reason for failure. You haven’t mentioned it yet, but do you have plans to replace? That would be a daunting job for me but you seem to have the skills to do it yourself. 😊

That is only thing I dislike about Chevy trucks. Those boxy wheel wells suck balls. If they were scalloped more to contour of wheels (rounded) they wouldn't rub nearly as bad. Just my thought. It turned out awesome! What a great job and the all the details were and are being addressed. I like it.
