I maintained a 4.0 GPA in my 2 years at community college.
But it didn't really help me much at USC.
And I'll tell you why.

Im in my second year of CC. Last year I goofed off bad and finished with a 1.45( I know that's pathetic) but this year I've actually managed to stay motivated getting a 4.0 fall semester and 4.0 taking additional winter classes. Now im sitting at a 2.85. Do you think a 2.85 is good enough for some state colleges like University of Arizona, Ohio State, ETC...? Luckily if I pull through this semester again ill have somewhere around a 3.6. But mannn its getting tough to stay motivated after being at CC for what will be two years!

I thought Arizona State was easier than community college. I got a 3.2 GPA at community college and a 3.75 at ASU. There's more grade inflation at university as I felt professors grade easier. I probably only spent like 12-15 hours a week outside of class doing any type of school work while averaging 14 units a semester. I probably could have graduated with a 4.0 from ASU if I had studied 10 more hours or so a week but I was also working 30-32 hours a week so that would have burned me out.

Yo, I’m having a bit of trouble cuz in my past years in high school I was a BAD student, I spent my time and classes talking and goofing around, however, I decided to actually try this year noticing that I wanted a good future. I’m not doing as bad as I used to but my gpa is low AF, I got a 2.3 for now (on a 4 scale) expecting the year to end I’ll have a 2.6... if I go to community college and do good, would I be able to have a transfer to a good university? I’m planning on getting my associates degree in 2 years as a web developer... if I get like a 3.5 to 4.0 gpa would I be able to choose a school I wanna go to? Or how does that work? I’m kinda getting stressed about it :/

@@iamchefchris hey, sorry for the late reply, I'm on my second and last year at my local community college, surprisingly is going pretty good. My first year went decently good, I got a 2.9 gpa, My gpa might increase a bit more at the end of this semester since my general classes seem to be going a bit easy, I'm on my second to last year of community college and I signed a contract to go to a good school, UW Madison, I do however have to meet the requirement of 3.5 overall GPA and feel confident. If I manage to get on that 3.5 gpa I can finally go to school in which I'll learn what I will be working on. I'm also not paying anything at all, my latest bill was almost 3K but since I applied to certain programs they pay for everything, I just have to meet the 2.5 gpa requirement and I'm holding good. They will also be paying my UW Madison tuition but I have to keep doing good. Sorry this is long, I hope it helped or gave you an idea. You can do whatever you want to do, actually give it your best and you'll do just good in college.

if you really care about going to a solid uni then you should spend 2 years in CC but if you don't care at all a 2.6 is borderline and you will definitely get into some universities(especially some private ones that want to milk your money) assuming you spam out applications. If your planning on going into computer science then technical and community colleges are great for that and university in cs is only for people who want to work at google or something. Also don't count on getting a 3.5 I know from your perspective that seems hard to top but trust me a 3.9-4.0 in CC is very doable so don't aim for a 3.5 aim for the moon. But the short answer is yes 2 years in community college with a 3.7-4.0 allows you to pick whichever university you want to go to assuming its not ivy league

@@lanceflores1079 Hey man so transferring can be a bit of a headache, but it’s mainly in picking the right classes that transfer and look good for your major. After that, it’s all good. I’d say if Cal State Dominguez Hill isn’t one of your fav schools then go to a CC. If it is then you can stay and always go to grad school at another school. Transferring from a CC to another college is MUCH easier because on the transfer applications most schools ask why you want to leave your current institution to theirs. For CC students this answer is easy and it turns into a “Why that school essay” real quick, but if you’re coming from a university it’s much harder to prove your point because unless the school you’re at doesn’t have programs you need or something like that you’re out of luck. You can’t transfer from a university to another and just say, oh I don’t like it here. Or I wanna be in another city. It’s just not going to cut it, you need to have a compelling reason to transfer.

I have a question I'm starting cc soon,and I was wondering if I still have a chance of getting into a good school. Basically what happened was 7 years ago,when I was in high school before I dropped out I was taking a college class that I basically ghosted due to me not taking school seriously at the time. Fast forward to now I finally got my diploma,enrolled in my local community college and noticed it says I have a D on my cc transcript unfortunately I don't think there is a way to change the grade due to that class not being taught anymore at the cc. Do you think I still have a chance of transferring to a good college if I keep up good grades this time and prove myself?
@walterwhite476
@walterwhite476 Жыл бұрын
You definitely do. Keep really strong grades and most colleges will even have a section to explain certain circumstances. Basically, don’t worry about your past coming back to haunt you. If you show that you’re really focused academically now and involved in whatever you’re interested in, you’ll be fine.
@gettingintocollege8857
@gettingintocollege8857 Жыл бұрын
You best bet is to ask your counselor about Academic Renewal. To explain it simply, if two semesters have passed and you have received a 3.0 or higher in your last 12 units or a 2.0 in your last 24 units you can have specific classes "redlined" or ignored. The community college doesn't add it to your gpa, and neither do CSU's and most UC's.
@user-ch4yf8kc9v
@user-ch4yf8kc9v Жыл бұрын
it depends on what you define as good, ivy league schools nitpick everything and there's not a lot that you could get away with. That being said one D is a 1.0 gpa and you could easily dilute that by getting all A's with very few B's in all your other classes since there are a total of 64 gpa points in a major assuming you take 4 classes a semester(4 classes 4 semesters 4.0 potential gpa points) assuming you dont get any extra credit or take any more courses the highest gpa you can get with a D is a 3.8 which isn't bad. Still if you want to go to harvard or something you should consider minoring in something else to do very well in and dilute that 1.0 further. Dont take that the wrong way stay optimistic, I believe in you man.

The California College Promise Program makes it so students that go straight to a local community college get the first 2 years paid for. That's the best value, and it gives you time to prove that you can be successful on a college campus which is why transfer acceptance rates at the 4 year university are usually higher than acceptance rates straight from high school.
