Oh, I did eventually spring for the Behringer FCB1010 because I just naturally like the feel of a stomp box. Whole rig = $350 (already had the amp) and honestly sounded better than anything I’ve ever spent hrs dialing in.

I've been re-exploring Bias Amp 2/Bias FX on a 7 year old iPad 2 with an old Apogee Jam interface I had. I've always played with modeling from the original Pod to NI Guitar Rig, Amplitube, Revalver, etc. A long time ago I bought Jamup Pro, then Agile Ampkit+, Then Bias Amp and finally Bias FX. I upgraded them all with all the expansions except the bass stuff. Then I got three real amps. A Peavey Valveking II Tube amp, an AMT Stonehead SH-50-4, and a Mahaffay HiLo Watt Plexi. All of them were the head units. I also bought a Marshall 2/12 vertical slant cab and a slew of pedals. RC Boost, Fulltone OCD, AMT Reverberry, AMT Japanese Girl Wah, MXR 10 band EQ, Electro Harmonix Mistress chorus and flanger, Electro Harmonix dual delay, Minifooger bucket brigade delay, bought a couple extra preamps too from AMT. AMT SS-20, AMT Legend Series D2. The hardware sounds amazing. The Stonehead amp and SS-20, and D2 preamps are great sounding. The boutique Mahaffay Plexi is like a hot rodded Marshall Plexi. All great. Then one day I decided to check out Bias Amp 2 and Bias FX again on that old iPad 2. With some careful tweaking of settings and FX, I can easily rival the sounds I get out of the real hardware. Honestly - the feel and dynamics playing the Bias Amp models is no different than my real tube amps/preamps. I also get better sound out of plugging into my H&K 360 watt PA than the Marshall cab. One thing for sure - having great sound and very dynamic reactive equipment, just makes playing easier and way more inspiring. Whether you go to real gear or software, you will be more creative and enjoy practicing more. I get more versatility out of the iPad 2 rig with a few selected Fender, Mesa Boogie (Mark IIc is my favorite), Marshall, Deisel, Laney, Peavey amps and a wide variety of FX than I can get out of the real hardware and doing A/B comparisons I can't really pick one over the other. Both methods sound and feel great playing. I think building a dedicated floor rig using an iPad is a smart idea.Great video!

Hi Previous User Name, thank you for your comment! Wow, really great to hear about your physical amp and pedal collection, and how you are also exploring tone possibilities in the digital world. Great idea building the rig for it all! At the end of the day, most people attending a show are just regular Joes looking for a good time and don't care what gear is used. Most don't have a clue what the brands even are. If it sounds good who cares what the musician uses? I don't. Use whatever you enjoy and have fun. Great video!

I agree, bias sounds amazing and is easy to navigate, and I like that there’s a community of people who upload their custom pedal board sounds, so if you’re looking to cover a song and need to sound like a certain artist you can easily find it, and it’s easy to practice with at home if you can be using an amp because it’s too loud! I’m gonna invest in an iPad so I’m not using my phone during gigs and probably use bias for awhile

I like the iPad setup, more than the spark amp. After a while, everything sounds the same through the Spark amp. It’s a nice unit but not much in the way of tone shaping. I have used the iPad rig, since, it was available on iPad and it still delivers, to this day. I have upgraded , the iPad since but I am still very happy with this quick rig. I really can’t say anything negative about it.

Thanks Gary, your absolutely right! Guitar snobbery is the problem. I cannot believe how good the sound is from my I-pad (similar to your setup). It’s absolutely the future. I have a whole room of equipment from years of playing guitar and drums and recording. Now I do everything through my I-pad, using a Midi keyboard, guitar interface, midi drum module etc. Garage Band in itself would of cost thousands years ago for what’s built into it. When you factor in that most people have an Android or Apple phone/tablet already, then the cost is minimal compared to buying any musical equipment. Plus, when you finish the gig you can check your email and go online with your tablet 😂😁

I didn't really like the tones you got, but I never really liked bias fx as a whole. Perfectly usable for live gigs, but I feel like that would fall flat on a professional recording. This would be soooooo cool if you could use any PC AU plugin, stuff like the neural dsp or mercuriall amp sims. The format factory is pretty much perfect already, and the iPad has more than enough power to run such plugins, as they already run in fairly low powered laptops, it's literally just a compatibility issue. With this little tweak I feel like entire bands could tour with just one or two iPads and get exactly their album tones, 0 compromises. I gotta agree with you on the conclusion, this _is_ the future. It might not be the present for high end professional usage, but in a few years oh boy oh boy.
@Gary_W3 жыл бұрын
Yes, my main application for using Bias FX on the iPad is just for playing live. I agree there are better amp sims and FX solution out there, particularly in VST format. Hopefully in the coming years we'll see more development in software based guitar tone solution. Cheers :)

Pinoy kicks ass! As for me personally, I never use digital modeling amps on stage (and I have tried many times mind you) only because I can never really get that feel and immediacy that only a good tube amp can deliver, and I never use analog tube amps in the studio (again I've tried) only because it is so difficult to isolate, mic, and dial in a real speaker cab. But I will totally agree about the convenience, man lugging around my heavy af Fender '65 Black Face twin reverb combo amp and 15lb. Pedal board to gigs is a real pain in the ass!

If yes, IS your 4 button switch able to handle that type of usage? Thanks!
@danielefatali51174 жыл бұрын
Yes. The software can learn any midi control change or program change. If u need to switch more than 4 stompboxes in a song like u have 6 real stompboxes at the same time u just need midi pedalboard with 6 buttons. Blueboard is a normal midi pedalboard but works with Bluetooth instead of midi cable. U can use a midi in out interface (the PRO Irig series for example) and a behringer fcb1010 (but u have to consider the size, more buttons = bigger pedalboard)

U can use a midi in out interface (the PRO Irig series for example) and a behringer fcb1010 (but u have to consider the size, more buttons = bigger pedalboard)
@Gary_W4 жыл бұрын
Hi Fattohead, thank you for the comment. I Think Daniele already answered most of your questions. I do happen to use Blueboard which only has 4 buttons for switching between patches or effects. But you can definitely use any kind of MIDI controller, as long as your interface supports the MIDI cable. I am now setting my Bias for patch switching, not just effect switching. So if I press the foot button, it will not only change just one effect, but possibly multiple effects or even the amp and its setting as well, depending on how I set the individual patch. With Blueboard, I can access 4 patch at a time, with each of the 4 button corresponding to individual patch. And if that's not enough I can also change the bank. Each bank contains 4 patches. I can have multiple banks for different songs for example, and with the Blueboard to switch bank you just need to long press one of the buttons to get to the next bank.

Hi, I'm just getting into the irig2/iPad setup. I know its been a while since u posted this video, but I play in church too. Wondering how u coordinate the live setup. For instance the short hookup between the two and how awkward it would be to have your iPad handy to adjust as needed? I would appreciate your help. Also, you are an excellent guitar player ,especially your being so adept at multiple genres. GOD BLESS U. U are a Profesional quality player no doubt.

Hello Chris, thank you for the very kind comment, God bless you too! Regarding your question, the lag between two patches is noticeable, but recently I switched from "patch switching" to "effect switching" on the Blueboard pedalboard, so I can turn on and off individual effect pedals on a single patch, instead of switching between patches with different sets of effects and amps. Effect switching is more responsive and the lag is very minimal. Regarding your question about having the iPad nearby to adjust as needed, I actually just set everything on the iPad before I start to play, and then just leave my iPad on the floor and fully trust the Blueboard to turn on/off effects on the patch. Hope this helps! I have a new video about this iPad setup here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHS0anhuj5J0n8k&ab_channel=GaryW

Yeah i got a iPad Air-2 at first, Bias AMP run very good on that old gear! But i change to a iPad Pro 2017 (you can grab it for less) to Rec on Cubasis direct on the iPad, that is only with one Track possible with a iPad Air-2 ...so i change on a iPad Pro 2017, with such a iPad you can work like you got a i7 PC with 3Ghz, such a iPad is a Rocket! Bias AMP for the iPad and PC is Unbelivable good, it is Sience Fiction, on the iPad the Sound is much more better than on a PC. But that is normal, the Sound Engine on a iPad is "Top Level" Hardware! Take this iPad on a "Focusrite iTrack Dock" or on a Alesis iDock-2 (with Lightning) and you have a unbeliveable Multi FX Unit, there is NO OTHER Unit on the Market that Sounds like that and with that Features. With AUM Mixer you can listen to your Drum Track and with iBassist to a Professional Bass Player Track! and on the Channel Three you Load BIAS FX and Jam with your Guitar to that Preset of your own! That is Simple...very, very, very FAST and SIMPLE, it is so fast and simple, like you coming Home and switch on the "Light" ...just like that! And after you switch on the Light .... "YOU GET ALL OF THAT" ....BAAANNNNGGGG...BUMMMM!!! All is there.... Yes here and there you get Errors...what that means...mmh..., ok.. iBassist Eject without any knowing Reason, but restart the app again...and all work fine...that the Errors on a iPad, not very Heavy...simple, very simple! In my Opinion that is a Step into Future! I Love it...you can Record your Ideas with full of Sound with one Switch...Click it ON!!! Thats it!!!

Hello, thank you for the kind comment. Regarding speaker, I plug in to PA, or to mixer that the soundman provides. It is not an amplifier system so you still need a power amp or a clean guitar amp and cab. Hope this helps

Hi! I’m looking for some setup just like yours! Congrats for the video! However, how did you manage to use the powerbridge to supply irig pro duo with power? Cause I read at ik website that powerbridge doesn’t work with irig pro duo. Thank you! And congrats again, awesome sounds you have there!
@Gary_W5 жыл бұрын
Hi Leonardo, thank you very much for the kind comment :) I used another adapter specifically for the iRig Pro Duo, it is originally a 9V adapter for guitar pedals called 1 Spot from Truetone. It is very similar to a standard Boss 9v power adapter, but it has more Ampere to match the iRig Pro Duo. I used a Boss adapter previously though for the iRig Pro Duo, and it worked just fine, but I was worried that the Ampere didn't match. Hope this helps :)

Hi there Gary.. great vid..I just want to ask ...I noticed that there is a very noticeable latency when I switch from one patch to another patch..is there a remedy to this?
@Gary_W4 жыл бұрын
Hi thank you John for the comment. Regarding latency when changing patch, sorry there isn't a solution yet. What I do now is I created just one single big patch with two amps and a bunch of effects that I need, and I just change the blueboard to control mode to turn on and off effects individually inside the patch, as opposed to changing patches. Hope this helps :)

Hi Gary, great video! I use the Positive Grid software too and I agree it is amazing what they achieved for such a reasonable price! I use the Line6 Sonic Port as the audio interface to my iPad Air2. It is connected through the lightning port. I wonder, how do you power up the iPad? Only through the battery? I haven't seen an adapter with 2 lightning ports yet. Only USB + lightning (for headphones).
@Gary_W5 жыл бұрын
Hi Krizz, thank you for the comment! I power the iPad through iRig Powerbridge. And then I use a OneSpot 9V adapter for guitar pedals for the iRig Pro Duo, and another adapter from an old Android phone to power my Blueboard(there's a small micro USB port on the battery compartment). Positive Grid products sound beautifully realistic ! It’s roughly the equivalent of the Hotone Ampero which also diserves to be known. But I tried the iRig Blueboard to switch my Bias Fx presets and I can tell the Blueboard is NOT fast enough to switch presets in live conditions, it would be ok to use it on your desk or for changing pages.. but thats’ all.
@Gary_W4 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, I did use the Blueboard and Bias FX for live conditions, and yes there are delays when changing patches. But I am now experimenting with individual effects control inside a single patch using Blueboard instead of changing the whole patches, and it's better in terms of response time and latency. Hope this helps :)

Hi Arkava thank you for the kind comment :) there is a noticeable delay when you change patches, which contains a group of effects and an amp. But you can set it to effect mode on Bias, so that the blueboard buttons will only change a single effect on each button, and it will produce almost no lag. Hope this helps!

Gary - great video . Question: This or the new Spark amp? Wondering how much it costs to buy full version of Bias FX or Amplitube (or Bias Amp) as opposed to just buying a Spark?
@jimapperson65374 жыл бұрын
Own a spark. If the gig will have live drums, leave it at home. I use amp sims on iOS and run Cubasis 2 on a iPad Pro. Agree they can sound virtually the same. But part of my technique uses controlled feedback. I have old guy muscle, so my rig shrank. On a small hand truck, mounted a 15w monoprice. Just get one. Atop that sits a 62 fender vibrochamp. Visual sound with battery comp\overdrive. Both set pretty low gain. Input1 fender, jumper2 to a digitech tube screamer into monoprice. I like its reverb. Digitech digital delay in the loop. Rechargeable batteries in both boosters, adapter on delay. The way this sits, strapped to its own wheels put the champ at guitar level. Crank it up, compressor on, instant feedback, ala nugent. As far as folk that giggled at my measly 20 watts,your drummer will ask me to back it down so he can hear the rest of you. Too fiddley for recording. I prefer ToneStack to bias, but I have both.
@Gary_W3 жыл бұрын
I still prefer this rig, since at the place where I usually gig, they already have a nice big old Roland Jazz Chorus 120. If you need to have a dedicated amp head, then Spark might be useful. I bought Bias FX for about US$100, and I also bought Bias Amp for about the same price as well.

Hi Mark, I did not connect to cab directly. On the stage I connect the iRig to a Jazz Chorus combo. You will still need a guitar amp or a power amp. Or alternatively you can connect to the front of house mixer, and ask the soundman to provide monitoring solution. Hope this helps :)
