This is the first time I have seen one of your videos. I have seen many, many videos on the internet that explain all kinds of gear. I have to hand it to you. You do the best explaining on how a piece of gear works over anyone I have encountered. I have seen a ton. I may not be into the music you listen to, but it was perfect for your demonstration and it even gave me a greater appreciation. In fact I want to have that full song. Please keep the videos coming and do NOT change a thing. I have subscribed to your channel.

Thank you foe the video! As an MBP owner, I was almost nervous seeing the new gear. Hearing it rested my heart and saved my wallet. I have a love for the MBP and its insane detail. Its not the glue of a mix. Its the sizzle and topology. Unmatched by any other gear I would enjoy the silk blue and red in a unit but not the MBT. To be fair, the mbp needs another comp before it to tighten it all up. The mbt is not it. Maybe the manley comp or some OG SSL, not the fusion stuff. A good fet that tightens things up and adds a bit if oomf if thats whats needed. The mbp is the mastering unit that adds all that detail and musicality that i really havent heard in anything else. Even this new mbt can not compare to the air and detail. I feel the new neve gear is simial to the new ssl stuff. Just not as good imo. Portico and Shelford are creme of the crop.

Hey thanks for these - I'm waiting for mine to arrive and I'm really excited I made the plunge. Finding your channel has been a breath of fresh air honestly. Having somebody logically show you the functions along with some theory behind it helps put my mind at ease with what I was looking for...because obv this stuff is not cheap and can be a dark art for folks who aren't around high grade gear regularly while producing. The way this stuff works can be really subtle but the proof is right there in your ears.

Thanks for breaking down the silk section with a little more in depth, I hear 150-450hz in silk blue with more depth on my 8351's, which could be the result of taming the higher frequencies. The SFE is amazing. Blows AA Snow out the water. Snow is great, but this is incredible. First time I heard this was at a friends studio as well, and was like, this is what a compressor is supposed to sound like? Butter.

Thank you so much for this excellent. I can tell a lot of time was put into this video. You explained the unit better than anyone else and the examples you provided were very insightful. I know Rupert Neve also has come out with the Master Buss Transformer that has a compressor, EQ and silk. However that box has a opto compressor with no feedback/feed forward mode and there is not the flexiblity of the amount of attack control, and the EQ is just a 2 band shelf EQ. So I am more attracted to the Master Bus Processor.

Feed forward and feedback blends the dry audio with the wet (compressed) audio. Blend knob determines how much dry v wet sound is fed into the compressor. Think of parallel compression.

Hey awesome demo! imo the best mbp demo on yt. One thing about the sidechain- it’s the frequency range that the compressor’s detector circuit “sees,” aka what it responds to. But it will still compress the full signal. You kind of said it both ways, so I’m sure you know this and sry for being ‘that guy.’ But yea man, amazing stuff regardless, sub’d!

Thanks for doing this video. I’m curious to know what your advice would be to someone just starting out on outboard gear. I’m currently looking into an RND channel or a Shelford channel. Right now I am going straight from my Mojave 201 get into a baby face Fs pro into my mac. Would you recommend a channel strip for the pres, eq and compression, or, perhaps the Neve mix bus you have?
@officialdiomer7 ай бұрын
if you're trying to get the best vocal chain you can get right now, I'd get the Neve Newton. but if you want to be able to use your gear for mixing/mastering, look into buying dedicated preamps, compressors and EQ's to get the best of both worlds. but for the price the Newton is half the price of the Shelford and almost as good. if money is no factor then get a Neve 1073 and a CL1B

It’s simple, what do you need? What’s the scenario? Final mixdown? Mastering? MBT is great for final touch. Forget about dynamics. If you need a compressor, this is not for you! MBP is strictly compression first. With Attack and Release, Blend, SC, FB/FF capabilities. Also with added complex MID/SIDE features and Silk( if you run it through a MID/SIDE encoder you have SILK independent on both channels. When you want (which you will want) to control or what I call level your dynamics In your final process, It can be quite transparent and is very “musical”. Forgot to mention the incredible limiter you get. You can squeeze your signal for more loudness at the final stage. I see a lot of people don’t even know how to use it. On your drum bus this is INSANE! While both are great MBT is limited if you do NOT have a mastering compressor ALREADY. 👍
@johnisrael51832 ай бұрын
See my onl Issue with the Portico to is NO EQING......so I still think the SSL 2 Bus Plus and the SSL Fussion or the API 2500 with the API 5500 EQs are smarter options both will give you that Analog High End Distortion, just from it passing through either combination and the SSL in alot of ways gives you more bang for your Buck....
@RainAstonIV2 ай бұрын
The MBP lacks an EQ but, the fusion lacks a compressor. they both offer their own sound and I'm of the few that says to get both if you can afford it.

Just disengage sfe to comp fonction when you are demonstrating sfe, this is changing a lot. When sfe to comp is engage, you have a different architecture in the signal path, and this is little confusing your tests and what results from it. Best
