It seems like every curly girl had their biggest struggle in middle school😅 I used to straighten my hair EVERY day, if I washed my hair one day I would straighten it 2 hours later. Finally one day in seventh grade my straightener stopped working so I was forced to go to school curly, and a guy I had a crush on for months told me he liked my hair!😂 Its stupid but after that I went completely natural, big chopped a few weeks later. Now im 18 and my curly hair is my favorite thing about me :)

I love that you decided to go natural, because your hair suits who you are and your face very well. God knows what He is doing when He gives us features, because nothing fits us better. I'm grateful for videos like this that spread positivity and acceptance, because representation matters. I am happy people are starting to embrace natural hair and curl patterns, but I am even happier that people are embracing themselves. My hair journey: I was natural until I was 16 years old in 2012. My mom waited until I asked for a relaxer. I thought it would make me looked more mixed, because I'm a light skinned black girl who was asked often if I was mixed, so I began to try to be that. I was lost for a long time, and I straightened my hair so often that it began to break off and get shorter. My hair prefers to be natural and HATES being straight. I decided to go natural in 2014 after getting into health and realized it's a contradiction to be a naturalist and promote being natural if I did not have natural hair. I big chopped in July of 2015. Best decision I ever made because I love my natural 4C hair. I have frustrating days, but always tell yourself you love your hair and I promise you it will grow!

It's puzzling that bleaching your hair blond, which is an extremely damaging chemical treatment, is still considered being "natural" but relaxing your curls is not natural.

Its sad hearing all these hair journeys including mine and they all start from the fact that people cant accept curly hair anything 3c and above is automatically considered ugly and having all these people pressure you unconsciously telling you that it looks better straight it really hurts and makes you hate yourself. It makes me feel more empowered hearing that im not the only one who was told these things when they were young and that you grow out of it eventually and eventually love yourself

My situation was the same lol. My mom is Japanese with completely straight hair. My dad's black, and I pretty much get my curly hair from him. All thru 3rd-6th grad my mom blow dried my hair straight 😂. I later started straightening my hair every week by 7th-10th grade. Then I stopped and went natural! I slowly got rid of damage by cutting inch by inch thru the years.

A few months ago, I saw this girl who has curly brown hair and she's white these girls and boys were saying how is your hair curly? Saying that only black girls and guys have curly hair so you must be just getting it done like that. (her hair is similar to yours) I heard them and I got so mad because I'm white and I have brown curly hair as well, I marched over there and just told them how stereotypical they were being and how everyone's hair is different. Now me and this girl are very good friends 😊💗

My mom did my hair all throughout elementary school & then middle school hit & she told me it was time I take care of it myself. My mom did once have curly hair similar to mine (I'm a 3b) but from pulling her hair back for so many years for work... she lost her curl pattern. Her hair is wavy now, so I felt like I had no help when it came to hair. I remember drenching it in water because I didn't want it to be frizzy or puffy. I just wanted it to be sleek & flat like you said. I would come out of the bathroom with soaking wet hair & rewet it whenever it started to dry. I started wearing my hair in this ugly low pony, all of my baby hairs would just fly up throughout the day & it just looked awful lol. In middle school I wanted to look good so I straightened my hair every single day, I would wash it Wednesday & Sunday & straighten it the minute it was dry that same day. I would do touch ups throughout the week & the cycle would just repeat throughout dry winters & humid summers. Even when school was out in the summer I was still straightening it. I did that from 6th grade to half of 9th grade. The very first day I went to school with it curly, everybody looked at me & said "your hair is curly???? Now way! I always thought it straight!" A lot of them complemented my hair (even tho it wasn't to its fullest potential at all) but I just remember how good I felt in that moment. Just like you I am mixed & people have been giving me a hard time about it for as long as I can remember. I had a really hard time figuring out where I belonged. It was tough. But I figured it out & I know it sounds ridiculous but my hair played a huge part in me figuring out who I am. I'm 19 years old & I love my hair. Deciding to go natural was the easy part. The hard part was figuring out how to care for it, what products to use, learning how to be confident through the process. Lissette, I'm being so serious when I say that your videos were that for me. They helped me so much when I truly needed it. Thanks to you & your videos I'm able to say that I love my hair. Curls, volume, frizz & everything else that comes with it.☺️❤️❤️ I hope you see this, whether you know or not... your videos have helped soooo many people ❤️❤️

I'm seeing so many comments saying "mixed girl hair" or "black girl hair" as if all black people or mixed people have the same hair texture lol. Curly hair (no matter what curl pattern) is not exclusive to anyone. Maybe it's because some people are just young and a little ignorant.. or just ignorant in general.. but there is always a time to learn and be more open minded. When you say "mixed hair" you make it seem like all mixed people have the same hair type and that's simply not true lol. This applies in many other ways too. Anyway, great video and great content :).
@misseydj1237 жыл бұрын
Esiri Eya'ufe Esiri Eya'ufe Im not taking it personal at all :). That's not even a general statement considering there are fully black people with loose curl patterns. Trying to simply educate on something factual is not me taking it too personal. When you say "in general" you make it seem like you've met every mixed person and every black person and decided that "this is true". Living in Africa and seeing fully black people everyday, I can tell you that "generally" black people are too diverse to say that lol.

I was in high school, I was a sophomore suffering from depression. At that time, I was seeking lifestyle changes that could make me feel better and uplift me and one of those ways centered around my hair. I used to relax my hair all of the time until (I can say around) age 13 where I started to admire my new growth that would come in a few weeks after getting relaxed. Sophomore year, that admiration turned into something permanent, causing me to not like relaxers anymore. After my last relaxer (Feb 2014), I promised myself that I would stop relaxing and go natural. The first year was so easy, I stayed with braid outs in my hair, as well as going to school with wet hair, etc. I felt so free because I didn't feel constricted and forced to have my hair look some type of way. I let my relaxed ends break off and decided to cut the rest off right before my senior year (July 2015) and I was so happy. I can say that that was the best decision I had made and I never regret it. Of course, I have my struggles with it, but the curly girls like you continue to remind me to never give up on my journey, as it holds so much beauty and power. The joy that I get when I see other curly girls/black women coming to me and complimenting makes me feel as if I am doing something and giving someone else the inspiration that several others have given me. This is one journey that I will continue to embrace. I just wanna say thank you for serving as inspiration for me and to keep doing your thing, girl!

I'm fully black but I look like a "light skin" mixed person, and I have had curly hair all my life. My hair used to be super long because my mom put it in plats/ individual braids all over my head. When Igor into like 5th grade she started letting me wear it down and like only one braid. I noticed my hair became shorter but I didn't really mind. A year later- going into seventh grade my hair caught on fire and burned like 4 inches off. My hair lost its curl pattern completely and I was embarrassed to go in public. I let it become back healthy the next two years and then I got it cut and got blonde highlights, which brings me to where I'm at now. It's about an inch past shoulder length now. My hair is growing back to how long it originally was when I was like 4 and I'm digging the color I added to my original sandy brown hair.

Hey you do know that people who are mixed with some kind of African makeup look like they're black because they are. It's not that you look like them, they look like us because part of their makeup is the same as ours. You seem young, but don't dim your blackness, love. Oh yeah, and one can have darker skin and still have loose curls like a "mixed person" just like one can be lighter in color and have 4c curls.

Long story short:I would say my journey began when I was in 4th-th grade. We had this neighbor that introduced me to a flat iron. I flat ironed my hair from then until 8th grade. Part of what made me go "natural" (my hair didn't really have chemicals, I had a relaxer once in 3rd grade for picture day) was we had swim class in middle school and I used to lie and say I was on my period super often so I didn't have to go in the water. But when I did have to go (I did have to pass the class after all...) in the pool, I had a swim cap. It came off while I was diving and completely messed up my hair. I realized that I didn't know how to even take care of my hair. I remember I cried in the locker room because I was so upset and didn't know how I was going to go to next period with "hair like this". Another biracial girl lent me some of her mousse (HERBAL ESSENSE TOTAL TWISTED!) and my pride was hurt when everyone stared at my disaster of hair but I made it through that day. I went to volleyball practice and this girl told me that 'she can see why I straighten my hair now', I was so hurt. lol. Anywho, after that, I also wanted my hair to grow and we were PCSing so I knew it was my chance to start over. So I wore my hair GELLED DOWN for like two years. My "curls" (heat damage) were glued down, lmao. Eventually from KZbin and experimenting, I learned how to do my hair how I like it and now I'm 22 and my hair is my absolute favorite. I don't really straighten anymore and I treat my curls with love and care.

I'm African-American ("black") and Mexican. My mom is African-American so she always used to keep my younger sister's hair and my hair in braids or twists. I didn't like my hair growing up because I used to get teased. People would always call my twist "dookie braids". I hated it. At the end of my 8th grade year, she put a perm in my hair so I went into high school with a perm. I ended up having to get a big chop (it was a little past my ears). I kept cutting it (the shortest I had was probably the middle of my neck) and being impatient so it grew probably to my boobs but it was really damaged bad from straightening too much within my 4 years of high school. I went on a 2 year natural hair journey in 2015 after coming across your channel and following some of the steps and recommended products you used. It's gone great! My hair is almost to the length I want it, I've straightened only a few times (5 or less) with 2 years to check the length. What I like about my hair is the color of it in the sunlight. It's a dark brown with light brown and hints of red as the highlights in the sun but it looks black. Also that people compliment my natural hair when I wear it down. I'm gonna straighten my hair on my 21st birthday, which is next Monday 😁😁😁😁 Thank you for your videos! Happy (early) birthday to you my fellow Gemini! And have an awesome 21st birthday! 😁

Thank you so much for this video and your channel! I'm adopted and biracial. My family is white and my sisters and I are all mixed! I didn't know how to properly style my hair until I was 18!!! I'm 20 now and love my hair. I recently cut it really short and get compliments on it all the time saying how healthy and bouncy my curls are! I will never go back to forcing my curls up into a bun everyday like I did back in middle school. My hair has been through everything. Straighteners, curlers, relaxers, blowouts, you name it. But it wasn't until I started watching your videos back in 2014 that I began to really love my hair! You gave me hope when I was ready to shave my head. So thank you! You were such a big help during my own hair journey! Love your channel and definitely relate to your story as a fellow "Mixed Chick" ;). Also, unrelated to the hair thing, I'm a fluent French speaker (learned it in high school/made it my major) and always get a kick out of you trying to pronounce the names of french labels on your products. I loved this 😭i can relate so much, especially with wanting your hair to be "flat" and stuff. in 8th grade I would alternate every week; one week my hair curly and ALWAYS tied back in a braid or pony tail, and the next straight. My hair was getting straight on top and I was losing my curl. Two years ago I cut off all my hair to my chin and started over 🤗 my hair is now past my shoulders and curly and BIG as can be, and I love it 💙

Omg! I’m so happy I found this video! For years I would want my hair to be a certain way and felt like I was ugly as well! When I would flat iron my hair, I never understood why it couldn’t be super flat like everyone else! I felt like my curls were so ugly! After watching this and seeing someone that I can relate to, I am so happy! I constantly wore ponytails and come to realize that I do have beautiful hair! I used to think thick/volume hair was terrible!! My mom made me wear corn rolls since she couldn’t tame my thickness.. Everything you said sounds just like myself! I’m still in the process of loving my hair, and I’m so happy to find someone with the same texture and volume that I have! Thanks for posting this!

My hair use to be super long when I was younger but I started going to different people and as time progressed my hair got shorter. For some reason it's kind of hard for it to grow the way it use to. But I can definitely tell it's much healthier because I'm going to someone that specializes in natural hair. Also along with that, my hair texture has changed. I have really pretty spiral curls now and I'm in love with them.

You are seriously my biggest inspiration; mainly the reason why I big chopped my hair. I big chopped heat and color damaged hair about a year ago (I actually filmed it on my channel) and it's grown to about past my shoulders. Growing up no one knew how to manage my curly hair so they made me get relaxers and kept getting it straightened and at one point my hair just did not grow anymore. This was beyond frustrating for me because my dream was to always have longggg hair. So now that I am at this point in my curly hair journey I sincerely want to thank you Lisette for being my curly hair guru and continue to be till this day ❤️

I've been subscribed to your channel for a few years now and even though your mixed and we have different hair textures, I've always looked up to your hair advice and used your videos as a guide while starting my natural hair journey. Thank you so much! I started my natural hair journey around senior year of highschool (I am officially a senior in college now) and I started to grow out the relaxer I had. I was really curious to see how my natural hair looked and what kind of curl pattern I had. once my hair started to grow out and I was going through the awkward phase of having grown out natural hair but still a lot of relaxed hair left, it was my freshman year in college and I had my friend braid my hair into two big braids. I also had my mom trim my hair every few months to help speed up the growing the relaxer out process. By the end of my freshman year in May, I was officially natural! I just cut off the dead relaxed ends and it was official. I had a shaky start on how to style my hair or what to do with it but around sophomore year of college I had heat damage as I would straighten my hair from time to time. It wasn't often, as I would straighten it like once every few months but I went to a Dominican salon and they use a lot of heat and so my hair had suffered from that. When I saw my hair wasn't curling back all the way, I just cut off the damaged strands because it didn't look good and they were useless. From then on I have not straightened my hair and have BARELY used heat and my hair is flourishing!

I just wanted you to know that about a year ago, I was straightening my hair every day and finally got tired of it. So I decided to search KZbin for how to get rid of frizzy hair and… I found your video after that I made a KZbin account, and subscribed and decided to go natural, all because of you! You were my inspiration, my curly hair goals,my make up goals so thank you!!! Because of you I want natural and haven't gone back since! You were the reason I embraced not just my curly hair but also my skin (i'm half black and half white too) you helped me so much to accept who I am! And I'll be really sad if you don't see this💜💜💜

I've been a follower since the VERY beginning! You've helped me literally every step of the way with my hair. From high school to now at 21 myself. Even with more than just hair. Makeup, style, just confidence in general lol. And my confidence in my hair was the same in high school. Just wanting it to be put away and hidden. But when I big chopped in 2015, I started embracing my curls soooooo much😄 Now I rock my curly afro any way I want! Sending love you're way Lisette! You are such an inspiration to all us curly girls!💜😄🎊

I straightened my hair all through high school and some of middle school. I dyed my hair a lot I was trying to get my hair to be a light golden brown it never happened lol the results always came out to be orange looking. I never went to get my hair trimmed I thought my hair is healthy it's growing "I don't need a trim"😂 so, when I got into high school I started wearing clip on hair extensions and I would straighten or curl my hair everyday for school. The only times I wouldn't straighten or curl my hair was when it was the weekend or when I was just staying at home. I finally stopped putting heat on my hair in 2015... I used to hate my hair just like you. I always wanted straight hair I wish I never had "nappy" / curly hair I used to say people with naturally straight hair are so lucky to have straight hair because they can do more to their hair than I can, it was my sophomore year I think? I went to the drug store and bought a kids relaxer to take the curl out of my hair and to make it more flat so it would be easier for me to straighten.. I also remember one time I went to the salon and I got my hair thinned out, but anyways it took me awhile to love my hair too! Even after I stopped using heat on my hair I still wasn't using the right products.. I was using Pantene and I can't remember the others, but then I found out about the Shea moisture coconut curl cream and I started using that for a couple months. After, that I started using their products. I found out out about all the harsh ingredients in products that aren't good for curly hair like sulfates, alcohols, silicones, so on and so fourth.. I quit using products that had those ingredients in them and my hair transformation was so surprising because after all this time I've been abusing my poor curls... now I never could do such a thing😭 I LOVE my curly hair. Curls are sooo beautiful ❤️ all curly girls should embrace it!. The thing I love most about my curly hair is it's thick ➰➰➰➰ . It was a long journey for me as well🙋🏽

Hearing you talking about your journey and always wanting to have straight flat hair totally reminds me of myself and I am just now starting to really like my curls. I've been watching your videos for a very long time now and i love the way that you talk about your curly hair ! Thank you for all your tipps and tricks and stay the way you are! Love from Germany 😌

I am so glad you made this video! I can't believe that I have been watching you for this long, because I remember all of these pictures and videos! My hair journey began in 2012 when The Hunger Games came out. I saw Amandla Stenberg, the actress who played Rue, and was instantly obsessed with her curly hair. I was only twelve and didn't understand why her hair was curly and my hair was straight. I then found out that because I had a relaxer, my hair was straight. So, I decided to grow my hair out and then I final cut it all of one day when I was frustrated. I found your videos and was happy to find someone who had a similar curl pattern to me. You were very knowledgeable about curls and I looked up to you as someone I could get hair advice from because no one in my daily life knew anything about my hair! I am so glad that you made your channel and that you continue to be so sweet and interact with your fans. I love each and every video and when I am going through a rough patch in my hair journey, you are always their to encourage. I want my hair o be healthy within the next two years. And I hope it can be long too! I'll just keep going because hair always grows back.

So I have about 2b hair right now with a few 3a curls thrown in. I have finally gone natural. I have been straightening my hair for two years, because I thought that my curly hair wasn't pretty enough, shiny enough, and long enough. I'm in my freshman year of high school and I finally realized that if other people could do it, and you could do it, I could be happy with my natural hair too. Tomorrow will be one month since I have straightened my hair and in 2 weeks I'm getting an inch and a half off. I'm then going to wait three months and right before school starts get three inches off which should finally rid me of all my split, heat damaged ends. You are such an inspiration, I love you. ❤️

Okay, so I'm 14 turning 15 next Sunday (happy early birthday to me!!!) but I first straightened my hair in kindergarten I believe. I would get it straightened every 2 weeks then, which also started being expensive because my hair came down to my hips, and they charged by length. My mother introduced me to a texturizer in 3rd grade I believe, and I fell in love with it. It gave me the prettiest waves, my hair was easy to manage, everything got easier. I put one in every 3 months or so and flat ironed it at home, until 5th grade, when I noticed my hair was stringy and coarse. I told my mom and she just stopped doing a texturizer and I would just get my hair straightened at the salon instead. During the summers I would either constantly have braids (which was absolutely TERRIBLE for my edges) or I would just wear my stringy natural curls. That was my routine until August of 2016, when I got tired af. I was tired of straightening, tired of having stringy hair, etc. I also found your account around April of 2016 so you inspired me to do this. Without telling my mother (she found out later and was mad but got over it) I did my big chop. I cut off about 12 inches of hair, but only in the back. It looked horrible because the front still had stringy curls, and the back was healthy, but much much shorter. I told my mom about two days later so she'd let me cut the rest, and she let me. I cute off about 9 inches in the front, 12 in the back, 10 on the sides. Now, its May 21st of 2017, and I haven't touched a straightener since august. My hair has also grown significantly, and when stretched, is almost halfway down my back now.

My Hair Journey: I've been relaxed since the fifth grade I'm a senior who's graduating this week Friday and I never knew about natural hair, all I knew was that I was picky about my relaxed hair, I never did much but it still continued to grow, until I started relaxing my hair every 3 months instead of 5. The only heat that I would use was a blow-drier to blow-dry my hair, I never liked my hair down (still don't) so it's always in a ponytail, occasionally a bun, and once a year box braids but last year I discovered some beauty gurus on KZbin "theglamtwinz334" and I decided to go naturally I'm only 6 months in, (transitioning) it's a struggle on wash day but I'm getting use to it and I decided that curly hair may look good on me and if I don't like my natural hair I could always relaxed it again but I occasionally take biotin supplements, I'm terrible at pills so they are gummy form. I probably won't take another supplement until August or so 🤔 but yeah, this is my current hair journey summary... P.S. I do drink a lot of bottled water everyday because they are convenient
@Princess0ftheLight7 жыл бұрын
I love watching the glamtwinz too! they inspired me to continue with my natural hair journey. For as long as i can remember i have always worn my hair relaxed and straightened. Got my first relaxer when i was 4 so i went through most of my life not knowing i had curly hair. At 10 my mom convinced me to get a jerry curl, because the thought was id be easy for me to maintain, but i didnt like it and became bored again with my hair. It wasn't until i turned 23 and my hair was breaking off from years of improper hair care that i would hve quit using perms and relaxers all together. Now its been 5 years since ive used a perm and my hair is so much healthier than its ever been. Congrats on your journey i can speak from experience you will not regret going natural. The upkeep is so much easier and youll have amazing hair days even when you dont try as hard. Also if i may make a suggestion, you should continue to take biotin it, as well as folic acid and daily vitamin ur hair will grow fast

Hey. I recently just started watching your channel a few days ago and I am obsessed. It’s so nice to finally watch someone that you can relate to. I have had so much trouble with my hair throughout my life and only recently a few days ago started wearing it down and I feel like watching your videos had something to do with it. I’m in year 12 next year and for my whole schooling years I would wear my hair up in a bun or braids. I remember wearing it down (very very rarely) to school in the morning and then feeling like everyone was looking at me and I would put it up straight away. I also hate wearing it down because it gets super hot super quickly. I did get bullied for my hair in reception and I feel like this had something to do with why I have never been confident in my hair. I have learnt better ways of looking after my hair through watching yours and other KZbinrs videos with similar hair. Although I still get frustrated with my frizzy hair I hope that I can become more confident in myself to wear it down more often and try different things. I also hope that when holidays are over and I go back to school I don’t go back to putting it up everyday. But I feel like I will be more confident as one of my best friends (who coincidentally has the same name and hair as me) wears her hair down a lot and doesn’t care what others say about it. Thank you so much for inspiring me xx

you probably won't see this since it's 2 years past, but I watched this video back in 2017 when it first came out but I was still going through my no one else has to deal with the same thing I'm going through phase and it was a hard video to understand. I started properly trying with my hair 2 and a half years ago and then I stopped strengthening it and trying to find my curl pattern again too early because I wanted to move on to growing it. Recently I've realized I need to go back to the beginning and I just want to say thank you for giving me the strength to. I finished watching your video and went to the comments to read all these people with curly hairs' stories and I think it's what I needed right now. I also think I'm gonna stop by putting my hair up almost every day. Thank you for showing me I'm not the only girl with no guidance from a white mom. I love my mom, but this was something she could never help me with from experience like all these people.

I have always liked my natural hair but I started doing my own hair when I was 11 and I thought I knew what I was doing but my hair became damaged and broke off over time so when I was about 14 going 15 I actually started watching your videos 😂 and I fell in love with your hair and I wanted my hair like yours so I took a lot of your advice evening switching shampoos and it was working really well my hair was growing it was healthy and everything but August of 2016 I wanted a change so I decided to straighten me hair but that was a mistake because when I went to wash my hair it barely reverted back to my curls I worked so hard on even after I washed it my hair was so damaged when I brushed it broke off in big piece it took my length from below my collar bone to above my shoulders I was upset and had to do my research on how to restore my hair so I ended up buying this product and using it once a week my hair was thicker but I still had straight ends so I ended up cutting those parts off and fast forward to today my hair is still a working progress but it has grown and it's so much more healthy but even after that I still love my hair and I rocked it natural at prom😊

When you said " I wanted my hair to be smaller, I wanted to hide" and the way you squished your hair down when you said it, brought tears to my eyes. I have had so much struggle with my hair and was bullied a lot in school. I used to straighten it everyday between 8th and10th grade and damaged it so much. Then I joined the Army and wearing my hair in a bun everyday really gave it a break. Now I'm going blonde! We are the same age. Thank you for posting this! I wear my hair curly and use great products now but I still have my days when I consider getting keratin treatments and permanent straightening. I'm so happy lots of curly girls use KZbin as a platform to share their journeys! Thank you! ❤

I had what I thought was the cutest, frizzy afro in 7th grade, but all the boys thought it was cool to throw paper balls and pencils into it. I was always really depressed because of it. I embraced my natural hair, but I was both physically and verbally taunted to the point where like you, I wanted to hide behind my hair. I borrowed my mom's straightener and fried my hair flatter and flatter. There were barely any curls left by the time I hit sophomore year! Once senior year came around I straightened it less, maybe once a week. Even in college I continued to make my hair flatter. Not completely straight but wavy. I graduated college a year ago and haven't touched a hot tool since. It took me a long long time to be natural and confident with my hair. But it's better late than never, right?

I spend my whole highschool experience wearing a ponytail since I didn't know what to do with my curls. My mom didn't know either since she has straight hair. I felt so insecure and thought people would hate it. It ended up so unhealthy. This year I started to give less of a fuck of what people would think. I cut my hair as short as yours and it changed me. It made me soo happy. It gave me confidence. I'm not scared to let it loose anymore. Now I'm almost 18 and I'm finally starting to accept that I have fabulous curls, which I am now very proud of. I'm still in the progress of getting my hair healthy again, but it's going very well. Thank you for inspiring me and helping me to where I am right now. , love from a Dutch fan ☺️🌸

I am freaking 21 years old and I'm just now appreciating my curls. My profile picture was probably taken when I was 14 as you can see I straightened the heck out of my hair. And when it wasn't straightened it was in a bun. I swear my hear stayed in a bun for like 2 years straight. When my hair is curly it frizzes and I used to think that was so ugly. Now I know how to keep it from frizzing so much and let my curls pop! I get so many more compliments on my curly hair then I ever did on my straight hair and my straight hair is waist length! It just reiterates that natural is always beautiful!

Samantha Serrano if you wash it EVERY day or every other day, your hair gets dry, especially curly hair, and dryness is another reason why hair breaks off, wash it once a week.
@aricymonee7 жыл бұрын
do not listen to whoever said wash your hair everyday. that makes the shedding worse. lol. you should wash your hair at least once a week and make sure you put a lot of moisture in it. after you use a moisturizer, put oil on top of that so the moisture can "lock" in. dry hair is the main cause for breakage. i hope that helped. 😊

Thanks for sharing this video, you rock girl! I had a similar experience in middle school; straightened my hair and everyone started to treat me differently. I also had a routine of straightening my hair every Sunday (I think back and can't imagine doing that now). I ran track and cross country all throughout high school so I was constantly touching it up aka burning my curls off. It wasn't until my sophomore year of college that I realized I needed to make some changes. I went on KZbin and came across a bunch of natural hair stories which inspired me to cut out heat completely. My hair is the healthiest it has ever been, and I am in love with it. It's been 2 and a half years of me being natural, and I haven't used heat in almost 8 months which is the longest I've gone since I was a kid!

I love how versatile my natural hair is. Not only my natural hair but ANY girl who rocks her natural hair! It's beautiful. I honestly don't know when my journey began but I'd say towards the end of 8th grade year. Previously when I was about 9 or 10 I did have a relaxer, because my mother's friend talked her into getting me one since my "Type 4" hair was becoming more and more unmanageable. My hair was healthy relaxed, don't get me wrong but it just did not sit well with me. I had it for about 6 months until I decided that I just wanted my fro back. My mother's friend attempted to convince me that by stopping, that all of my hair would fall out; but I did not listen which was honestly the best decision for me personally. It was a short transition stage so my mom continued to put little kiddy braids in my hair from 2010-2014. My hair NEVER grew past shoulder length! (I'll explain why later) So, fast forward to Summer 2014... I went to the Dominican salon to get my hair straightened for the first time. I got sick and tired of just wearing braids and being told that I couldn't wear my afro out and free because of how nappy and frizzy it would get. I wanted to look like the rest of the girls (which is not really a good thing; I realize that now!) It was pretty but still short. It grew with the help of Coconut Oil, but I didn't realize how damaged my hair was getting after every visit. I loved my stylist but it seems as though she got lazier and lazier caring for my hair. The first time she did my hair she added a great amount of heat protectant to it.. As I continued to get my hair done by her every other MONTH she stopped using it. 3 1/2 years of heat damage as well as the added damage that I received along the way by not properly protecting my hair later..... I am 100% NATURAL!! And, I am my OWN stylist. I have realized that nobody knows your hair more than YOU do and I've invested in the proper products for MY hair type and I am finally embracing my natural hair. Oh and P.S. the real reason why my hair wasn't growing past shoulder length was because my mother would clog my hair follicle with grease rather than the proper natural styling product. I'm glad it didn't take too long for me to realize that natural hair is beautiful no matter how kinky or curly it may be.

I've worn my natural curly hair for about two years, I'm black, white, and Native American so for my entire life I somehow ended up looking middle eastern. Having curly hair gave me an identity crisis because I felt like no one liked it and both of my parents had sort of straight hair. I dyed it all sorts of colors and have finally settled on a brownish-burgundy. I still have a complex every time I wear my hair curly because people are always pressuring me to straighten it! But, your hair is identical to mine so your videos have helped me come out of my shell.

This video is really inspirational. I’m just starting my natural hair journey, and I’m not happy with my hair. My hair is already short from being color treated and flat ironed for years. Right now it’s hard to get my curls defined. Most of the curly hair products just makes it straight, wavy, partially curly with no volume. I’m going to have my hair stylist do a mini chop next week. Hopefully this will help. I also have to learn how to care and style my hair. I love all your videos. They are extremely helpful. I feel like my hair texture and type is close to yours, but kinkier. My hair gets very fizzy, and I’m sure it’s due to heat and color damage. After watching the story of your journey, I am very hopeful. I will stay tuned to your post. Whoa this is so inspiring, I had relaxer since fifth grade and I decided to go natural when I was in ninth grade(3 years ago), tbh it has been so hard forma me because there are days I become tired and upset of not knowing what to do with my hair, but I know I wont stop until my curls became healthier and as they have to be, thank you so much because I look at you and I saw all your vids and your hair is gorgeous, you really inspire me😄😘💕💋

Its crazy how similar our journeys are. I'm 2 years younger than you but went thru everything at all the same grade levels. I stopped relaxing my hair senior year and the day of graduation since it had grown out shoulder length i did a big chop. I left for the army june 2016 right after i graduated last year and couldn't straighten my hair for 8 months while i was in Oklahoma and texas. My hair grew soo much. Its the healthiest its ever been considering I grew up in Alaska:( I just did a mini chop and got bangs and it looks great. I'm actually about to go to the store lol and pick up some shea moisture products thanks to you. I've been dealing with this since 2007 and I never thought my hair could actually look as good as it does. However I dont use any products yet and wasnt rly sure how to take care of my natural hair yet. Thank you for influencing me and I'm glad I found your channel (:

Dyeing my hair actually brought my natural curls back. Anytime I dye it, it gets curlier

This was so inspiring! I also had a difficult time in middle school. Everybody would suggest I straighten my hair but it would take me hours to do it so I hated it. I would always wear my hair up. It wasn't until I was older that I finally embraced the beauty of my hair and my husband says it's one of his favorite features about me. I finally feel good and happy about who I am. Thanks for sharing this. It sounds very familiar to my journey.

I don't really understand what my hair wants. I have so many nots in my hair when I try to finger detangling, and I feel as if I should cut my hair, because I think I have split ends and I have nots too. I wanted my hair to grow longer before I did this, but I'm becoming impatient. My hair won't grow past my shoulders for dear life! My hair always seems to be dry, and stringy after wash and goes, I don't know what to do, or what I'm doing. What should I do guys?

Hey! Yea it gets tough waiting. I'm half tempted to shave my head but I know I definitely wouldn't look cute! To start I think you should get your ends trimmed. It helps the detangling process. I would also do some research on what natural hair needs to be healthy, that what you know what it needs to grow. Also take note on how your hair reacts to certain products. It could be a certain ingredient inside. Hope this helps and don't give up! I'm on the same boat!!
