The VIN on the door sticker appears to be for a 1973 plymouth Scamp. VH23G3B164210. That decodes as a 1973 Plymouth Scamp(V- Valiant H- High trim line 23- 2 door hardtop) with a 318, built at Dodge main (G-318 2bbl, 3-1973, B-Dodge main. it looks like the production date is either 10-72 or 1-73...couldn't make it out. If that's a C instead of a G in the VIn, it means it was originally a Slant Six. The number you found on the weatherstrip rail may only be the order number which was on the fender tag, which is missing. Those holes on the passenger inner fender are NOT where the fender tag went. That's where the vacuum pod and heater control valve went when that car had air conditioning, which somebody removed. The fender tag is on the left inner, just aft of the battery. There was also a tune up sticker there..."This vehicle conforms to 1973 model year etc etc" The engine also has casting dates and numbers on the sides of the block, as well as a partial VIN stamped into a pad on the passenger side just above the oil pan rail. The displacement is also stamped into the front face of the block just below the left cylinder head. The transmission also has a partial vin stamped into the case on a pad partway up the right side of the bellhousing. That's alarming that somebody removed the VIN plate from the dash, but what PROBABLY happened is they took out and sold the original uncut (radio) dash for $$ and installed another one to put that awesome gauge arrangement in. You can do some paint detective work to see if the driver's door paint is the same as the body. You can pull off the door panel and investigate. With enough digging you'll find original paint. If the driver door matches the body color then chances are that's your original VIN on the door sticker. I think you can get repo vin plates made WITH PROOF of ownership and VIN. I know they sell the transfer sticker that goes on the plate. Two things to always remember about buying vintage Mopars: 1: Unless the person spends a lot of time or money or both, they do lazy bullshit work like you see here. They have no imagination...they are always painted orange, yellow or green on a car this year which was never those colors. They were mostly tan, brown or green. They remove the AC because they are too lazy to get it going again and lack the understanding of how hard those components are to find now. Those of us that are around Mopars can see every single shortcut they took. 2: a good lesson to not EVER pay that kind of money for a Mopar unless it has a VIN TAG, a FENDER TAG, preferably a broadcast sheet and they all MATCH. My '68 Valiant is worth half of what you paid for that and has all of those. Not beating you down, but ALWAYS REMEMBER that.

That’s honestly the reality of classic cars that have been modified, we fall in love with the looks, the smell, the feel but when you look into the history of the car it can be an utter lemon or a mechanical nightmare. As you pointed out, it’s rough ridding, it’s set up all wrong and has fallen prey to what I call “Amatuer modification” while it definitely looks cool and is improved, the ways it’s Been done are definitely not the right way. But what we love is your brutal honesty, if anything you’re letting people be more aware when purchasing a classic car that’s been mod.

That extra rod leading to the carb goes back to the transmission to automatically downshift it when you stomp on it. You have no heater hoses hooked up would be my guess as to why you have no heat. That set up is a super classic set up. Please never sell it. Work out the small issues. It will be worth it. If I had ten grand, I would be in your face in a New York minute !!

Out of all the vehicles you’ve ever had on this channel, I think this one is my favorite. I’m not a mopar guy but I really do like this car. I agree for the price you paid and the damage that it had, maybe a little on the higher side but it’s still a really nice car, probably fast as hell if it topped out at 70 with half throttle lmao.

"Rosette" rivets drilled out on the dash. The data tag(s) aren't on the passenger side, they'd be where the MSD box is- only 2 screws hold it onto the inner fender. There is a "Hidden" VIN underneath by the front of the leaf spring mount. I know '67-'76 A-bodies really well

I have a similar problem. I got a guy's "parts car" and one of the parts he swapped was the dash. I got the cruddy dash he took off his good car. Not installed, just tossed in on the floor. But he didn't keep the right vin with the right car. So I have the wrong vin for the car. Not even the right year. The original is long gone according to the previous owner. It is not a Mopar, also... The DMV may give me an "assigned vin" if I ever get up the nerve to approach them.

I bought a 1999 Nissan Maxima from a "friend" of mine... brought it our family mechanic for repairs. He told me none of my vin numbers matched the car. He said the firewall vin was for a 1996 Nissan Maxima, the door vin was for a 98 Maxima and the vin plate was for a 1996 Nissan Altima. In my state, I did not need a title because the car was so old. This really weirded me out lol.

Wow Randy ,Virginia was my home state,anything they do with cars,they are hard core on vehicles,from safety inspection,you can't alter the car from factory,since this wasn't a Virginia car,Copart is completely responsible of the car,if the car is hot or parts are,they should know they are in deep you know what,if the state finds out,the state of Virginia could close the Danville lot and could get heavily fined for selling a hot car or an incomplete and unsafe car of Virginia standards,good luck.

Why did you buy a car without a VIN plate? Always verify the VIN on the dash matches the title, otherwise don't walk away, RUN the other way... I would have refused to accept it without the VIN plate, and demanded a refund for any money already paid.

It is hard to see, but it looks like the transmission linkage from the carb is either not hooked up or not present. That big stud sticking out to the left if where it should be. The thing has a slot so there is some movement before it starts pushing back on the lever. If you run without it, with the lever full forward (upshift signal) or full backward (downshift signal), you will get wrong shifts and burn out your trans. If it is full back, you will know it because shifts are severely delayed.
@auteurfiddler8706
@auteurfiddler8706 2 жыл бұрын
The fact the door lock won't turn by the ignition key is not necessarily something sinister... Guys often replaced ignition switches and saved ten buck by not buy the complete set with matching door locks. So they then had two of the diamond keys. You can be Mr. Skinflint by taking the door locks apart and swapping pins until you get an arrangement where your ignition key will work. Typically you can get three out of five to work in new locations.

That is weird that a car from Louisiana was at a copart in Virginia being sold as a flood car. So did the old owner do a Insurance job on the car? In order for a claim to go through the car has to have a vin tag on it

M brother had one in avocado green. I loved that car! But it kept him in trouble with the law so Pop sold it. 😭

I'll have to watch the rest of the videos and see if you put a fan shroud on it. It keeps the pesky rocks away from your radiator.

I like that orange mess it’s worth the effort to get it tagged ,once it’s proven not to be stolen they can retag it. I think we’ll NY does it.

No wipers either? It feels like it was a project that someone was 85% done with and ran into a "Need Cash NOW" situation so they slapped it together and sent it to auction, I bet they had all the vin plates somewhere but they didnt get put on for some reason after paint a body work was done.

Is the other scamp a v8? Because a six cylinder uses a different K member than a v8.

Well the hoses to the heater core are absent but I don't see the tubes they would attach to on the firewall. Perhaps the heater core is missing.
